Curious about technical 3d limitations?

    Does the 3d-engine have any technical limitations? Tall multi-floor buildings/towers rarely(never?) have windows, and I don't remember seeing many balconies in the game either. are these just design choices, or is it dictated by 3d-engine limitations?
    Are there some types of structures the 3d-engine simply can't do?(or is too much of a hassle to do often)

    I guess my real question is: Is everquest based on an extremely advanced 2.5d-engine? It does have "room over room" support and there are bridges in the game, but nothing you can't do in advanced "doom"-source-ports. Demi-plane of decay/life would be very challenging to do though! :eek:

    Or have I just not being visiting enough zones to see counter examples?:confused:

    Or is it just because they want the in-game maps to be just a slightly bit useful? :p
