CPU Affinity -- Clientcore changes to INI

    What Metanis said. Affinty/Core is only consumed when the client starts up. After that, you could manually change the affinity from task manager and the game wouldnt care and the ini wouldnt change.

    As far as my example goes, no one should be doing that, I was just highlighting the effect of setting the value is on the process affinity that you can verify from task manager.

    Still doesn't answer the question

    Nothing happens. The remaining client continues to run on core 12.

    My EQ was running slow and so I checked it. Mine has (cpuaffinity1=1) AND right after that line has (clientCore0=-1).

    I changed the cpuaffinity to neg 1 and that did seem to speed things up a lot. Still not perfect but at least I'm not having to take a nap while zoning now. Any idea why I would have both though?

    cpuaffinity got replaced by ClientCore, so it should not have any effect on changing the parameters there. You can delete the lines with cpuaffinity as they are obsolete.
  7. Fenthen Well, that's that...

    Old eqclient.ini data. I nuked my eqclient.ini away a few months back and let it rebuild, a lot faster now.
  8. Sappas Journeyman

    K, thanks. I might try that if it slows down again.

    I highly recommend leaving ClientCore# variables with the default value of -1. Any other value can have detrimental impact on performance:

    [Defaults]
    ClientCore0=-1
    ClientCore1=-1

    We're tracking this as a bug internally.

    Our servers buff pile has lost half its population, I suggest a fix soon.

    regarding this thread, is there anything I can do other than a clean reinstall of eq to attempt better performance? Delete eq.ini? Clear some sort of cache? My zone times and overall video lag and stutter has dramatically increased between the Yelinak server and current day. Some places are downright unplayable.
  12. Iven Suggestions Bard

    You could delete eqclient.ini to let it rebuild and see the difference. But make a backup of it first. The effect could be zero and there are so many other factors that do affect performance including a few log files that do grow steadily.

    You can also try a fresh, second installation, so that you don't have to delete anything.

    Don't forget to put /clearall into a mash key.

    Can that reduce lag ?
  15. Zinkeh Augur

    Something I noticed today: a HUGE HUGE part of video framerate lag seems to be tied to the auction channel. I had a big window open with auctions and I could barely move...10 FPS or less. Shrunk the window to a sliver.........game is perfectly fine again. Expand the window......FPS down to a slideshow. I think it has something to do with the item links. Maybe the client downloads what each item link is in realtime? Was a night and day difference ......but now i can't watch auctions lol

    People use /auction channel on your server? I havent seen that used in 22 years. Good on your guys for not putting it in general chat.

    If I'm running a old
    Intel(R)Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 GHz 8 core cpu (guess i can't paste pics here)

    Do I need to set anything regarding the cpu settings in .ini from the default? That whole affinity thing is new to me.

    As Cairbrae, EQ Developer, says above, just leave it alone and let EQ and Windows handle it. The whole Affinity/Client Core thing is just for people who want to multi box and decide they want to play with the settings. For someone hard core about boxing a lot of toons at once who knows what they are doing, it might help. For everyone else, just leave it alone.
