Fixed Internally Coldain 8th Shawl Turn-in Broken

Coldain 8th shawl turn-in can be stolen by anyone that has the "approved" shawl from the Dain.

General Bragmur, upon quest turn in, respawns as *General Bragmur, and proceeds through the crawl event across Iceclad. After fighting wolf and giant alike, he arrives at the northern most island and the gnome encampment, where the Avatar of Below spawns. This creature is not loot locked, and the turn ins are such that anyone can turn in their approved 7th shawl and complete the quest, without ever having crafted the armor or completed the crawl. i.e. - there is no secondary item you get through the quest that locks it to you.

I had my quest turn in stolen yesterday, and today completed all the pre-requisites to trigger the event again. This time, I checked the gnome camp before beginning and found a cleric with the 7th shawl simply waiting to steal the turn in.

If the general gave you a seal, perhaps, upon arrival at the camp, that you turned into the Avatar WITH your approved 7th Shawl, this could remedy the bug.

This is not working as expected.

This should be loot locked to the person doing the turn in. There is no reason why someone should be able to steal your effort and turn in their shawl without doing the actual quest.

The shawl takes a significant amount of effort and was one of the first things that really drew me back into playing EQ again on a TLP after many years away from the game. I'm likely to never complete the 8th shawl for the reasons detailed in the original post.

I also had an 8th shawl stolen from me after I did all the work and the escort. This should be fixed.

At 3 people in the zone today who had theirs stolen as well as two guildies have had theirs stolen. One mob is loot locked but the final turn in is not properly locked and can be stolen by anyone. GMs told us its "working as intended" and to just redo the quest. This is an unacceptable response considering the time, effort, and plat requrired to do this quest. This quest should be properly restricted to the person who has done the quest or a DZ should be created.

There is absolutely no good reason for this not to be loot locked. Knowing that someone would be able to steal this from me after all the work it takes to get this far is completely insane. And anyone that DOES knowingly steal this should be permanently banned, no questions asked. Please fix this immediately.

Make sure you all like the top post so it gets visibility to devs.

The development effort to fix this is probably less than the amount of work 1 person must redo when it's stolen from them.

Our guildie just had their prayer shawl 8 turn in stolen by Rezzinc on Aradune. EQ Devs - this needs to be addressed asap. The prayer shawl should be given to the person who actually turned in, and stripped from anyone who stole it.

"EverQuest" does not mean "doing the same quest over and over again so Toxic players can steal other peoples hard work".

If I remember, types like these are not a bug and working as intended because their scripting is limited and they cannot loot lock a mob that's spawned from a spawn or something like that. So while its a bad situation and could be handled better, its a limitation of the current tech. Everything that they could possibly loot lock should be complete by now. Else they are spending hours re-developing a new solution to handle it, taking away from other priorities. Or, this is known and is left open for MQing which leaves it open for griefing.

Just had 8th shawl turn in stolen from me by Rezzinc on Aradune. This is completely unfair as I mustered the force, had done the work to craft the armor and this person just turned in their shawl and got rewarded for stealing. This need to be rectified. This is unjust and unfair. I really hope I get some justice.

Incorrect. There are simple ways to address this and prevent this from happening. Daybreak is investing heavily in TLPs, simply take a look at the most recent patch notes regarding epic changes. They are without a doubt intended for future TLP servers - the items are all but useless to current TLPs.

Require an additional flag on the shawl (perhaps it gets turned into the General after the armor, but before the orders) or an item to hand in with it at the camp. There is no M Q component to this quest. As another commenter mentioned, the work to correct this issue would take less time than numerous individuals having this quest turn in stolen and having to re-do the quest.

There is no technology limitation here. Try turning the shawl in without the "approved by Dain" flag. It doesn't work.

The "limited tech" would be only that of the loot lock for scripting. Yes if they totally redesign the step to do something completely different then it would be different, but time vs risk breaking vs outcome would have to be prioritized, these old scripts are notorious for breaking really easily when they go back and try to modify them.

If one player can do task steps up to a certain point, then another player not previously involved does a hail or turn-in or whatever and continues the task from that step, that's the definition of multiquest (as i finished typing this, M Q I'm abbreviating multiquest not <third party program> if that's what you think I was typing).

I view MQing as "I turn in one item, you turn in the rest and get the quest reward" not "I do all the work, you stand there and take my turn in". Add an AoC for Iceclad, and don't change anything about the event. They did it for Ring War. Why not the Shawl? That way they don't have to fix any of the "old scripts" you mention. Point being, there are many ways to address this issue. It is, most definitely, not working as intended.

The whole idea of this is you have to have your Shawl approved by the Dain and then crafted a set of armor for this dude and assist him in his quest. No one who hasn't crafted the armor and assisted this dude should be able to turn in their shawl.

Make the final turn-in to the Avatar require a character flag from turning in the armor/expedition orders (item IDs 8897 and 8898): boom, solved. It's bonkers that people have been complaining about this on every TLP, that CS doesn't help people with the problem, and that it hasn't been fixed.

This is not a bug, it is intended that way.

Although, you might be right that it doesn't meet the technical definition of a "bug" it would still be unintended behavior of the quest as the person who does the work for the quest should be getting the reward. They did fix this with the 8th ring quest, so they should do a similar fix for the 8th shawl.

call it an exploit. that gets attention
And think about it. Getting the reward without doing the quest is certainly an exploit.

Got a report back from the GM that this is working as intended. Apparently griefing and exploiting other players is now allowed. Why bother with the hours to farm the gems/skill in blacksmithing just wait for someone else to turn in their armor set and orders and use an autoclicker to fast turn in your shawl? Why is Daybreak letting cheaters prosper?
