[Clerics] The 'self' healing parse thread

Discussion in 'Priests' started by Crystilla, Apr 29, 2015.

  1. Crystilla Augur

Just because a) I'm a list maker by nature, b) might be interesting and c) I or others might learn something, I thought why not have a thread where we could actually post our healing parses of events with the following information:

    1. Event Name
    2. Duration of event (either in time or short/medium/long)
    3. Type of group in (main warrior, knights, mixed, casters, etc.)
    4. Type of guild (how far in progression, variable attendance for raiders or strict minimums, etc.)
    5. Actual healing parse with # of spells cast (and which), total healed, etc.
I'm not necessarily expecting this to be used for anything concrete, but I think there are things we might learn from seeing each other's information ... and this way it's here where any cleric could come on their own time and see what folks are producing in a less threatening environment.
If you don't believe in this thread, that's fine. But let's keep this to actual parses instead of conversations about why this is a stupid thread.
  2. Belkar_OotS Augur

I will try to post some of mine later this evening. Game for having them for shaman and druid also?
  3. Crystilla Augur

Definitely, though may be better for those classes to have their own threads? Or at least state what class we're talking about if we keep it all here in one spot.

Will start this off with some recent ones.

Type of guild (how far in progression, variable attendance for raiders or strict minimums, etc.): Just beat Void to close out CoF 4/28/15. No TDS raids won yet. Variable attendance (no minimums).
    • I do have CoF tier 2 raid boots (for the 2nd fastest beneficial spell haste). Just in case folks wonder why I'm using Fervid and Greater Reformation instead of the level 100 versions.

    Grats on first void win!

If you're going to use a group HoT (I like them, I feel they are underutilized, but another topic) I think you'd have better luck using the ardent acquittal version rather than the elixir of the seas versions. It lasts longer (if you have the type 3 aug, which works on the singler target elixir, which is really what the group version casts on everyone, unlike seas), casts half second base cast faster, cures, and can proc more heals from sanctified blessing. It may cost more mana, but unless you're running out, I think it would be a good swap for you.

I think you are also leaving a lot of healing and resources on the proverbial table by not using a lot of activated healing AA's / clickys. Healing frenzy, channeling of the divine, flurry of life, celestial rapidity, your BP clicky (RoF or TDS if you have it), beacon of life, CR (though I do see it used here and there), focused CR, circles / auras (if you're in a setting where you can afford to drop one of your clr auras, though that is not usually the case in MT groups unless you're coordinating with co-clerics in group). They are all great abilities, and they really help.

I do see corruption and cures cures in void which is great. The other events listed aren't very cure heavy, but always nice to see clerics use cures more. Keeping the raid alive is more then just healing damage taken, it's preventing it from taking place or mitigating it (nice use of SB!) when you can. Speaking of damage prevention, I see you're spell bar is likely full, but I like heavy ward use for extra melee and spell damage mitigation on single targets. Very good bang for your buck considering the amount of damage it prevents and the very fast cast time.

Utility and heal use otherwise look spot on from what I can see.
Are those heal numbers your own parsing, or target(s)?
  6. Iila Augur

Tossing in your heal list might be useful, too. Just the ones that matter, there's usually a drop off when it gets to people healed by one spell plus your ae effects.

FFS, I need to redo my spell sets. For some reason Vivification is in my heal set instead of Resurgence. Even after spending an afternoon making all new ones for TDS spells, I'm terrible.

I wondered why I couldn't find 'Resurgence' in your post!

Congrats on the wins Crys and thanks for starting this - I leveled up a Cleric recently and have heard differing views on raid healing so this is great to see.

I was looking for an old beta log of a Neriak 2 run that took so long that I had over 1,000 casts. Could only find this. Was pre-patch that decreased the amount of spawns (and how long the event took) from "ludicrously tedious" to "ridiculously tedious." I remember one of my co-clerics telling me "This sucks. You got the tanks covered? I'm going to go make a pizza."

    ward of surety
    spiritual remedy
    graceful remedy
    fervent renewal
    fraught renewal
    mystical intervention
    virtuous intervention
    word of greater reformation
    symbol
    ardent acquittal
    shining bulwark
    divine indemnification

Symbol may get swapped for surety if I'm in a knight group that prefers that if they need rebuffs. Interventions get dropped for no dmg spell sets where I add a third renewal and something else. Spell based cures, splash, if needed depending on the event, usually dropping symbol.
  11. Crystilla Augur

Neriak 2 I wanted to post but felt I should just do the Prince (because if you're in the lich group, you don't have as much healing). But figure I'll post both next.

Thanks for the Void grats! Felt really good to get that monkey off our backs. (Prior win was ToR 2 weeks ago, Argin in September and prior was March 2014 so a bit of a draught we had.)

    Tour -
    1. Heals are from my own gamparse.
    2. Thanks for the tip on acquittal. It sucked so bad last expansion no one used it. Glad to see it actually has a use now. I had told one cleric to drop it (believing it was over priced mana wise for the cure aspect when the cure is never needed and can't proc outside of group). But will make that swap.
    3. Believe it or not I'm usually among the highest person on AA usage (with 1 other person because she macro's it into her bind) and push this hard with the other clerics. I do believe in using them when needed (not when up) as a distinction unlike the person above who I mentioned. With the posts so far, things went so smoothly (a rarity believe me lol) that I didn't have to break into them that often. If we have tanks die, then next time around they hold the mob longer than a normal swap and that's when I supplement (when their discs were down). We magically had a good # of tanks, pretty much none in my groups died and everyone was on point. I usually have to call out "use heal discs now" just like I call out using double issuances on Argin.
      • I will admit to never remembering to click the BP though. (Don't have any TDS version, group or raid).
    4. I tend to be the utility cleric, but yeah one of ours who no longer plays always did ward while I did AI and SB (refreshing when it wears off, reapplying during slow phases for the tanks that are about to tank). Same with DI refreshes mid fight. I want someone on the team to start using ward but haven't found someone with that same spirit of proactiveness, etc. and willingness to get away from the old spells.

We had someone else doing a lot of splashing and my #'s are low I believe because of that long-tushed lich phase. I had to be ready to heal the rangers at an instant and was stationed in our lich rooting corner far far away from heal range of the main raid.
  13. Tour Augur

Using them with complete indiscretion (like keying them with your heal bind) is certainly bad. Or at least wasteful and leaves you vulnerable to situations where you really need them (arx 3 phase 3 being a good example, when your cleric friend gets to it).

Keeping them so far in reserve that they don't get used doesn't seem the best use either though. Sure there is a important thought process distinction between not having them / not knowing about them, and having them / knowing about them but choosing to not use them until the most strict of requirements / emergencies. But the end result is the same - if they don't get used, they don't get used.
  14. Tour Augur

I think I'm the only person who likes phase 1 of neriak 2. Being out in the field away from the main raid and healing on the move all the kiters, rangers, while dodging mobs and auras and banshees / kiting / fading is fun. Also has one of my favorite raid achievements: "Okay, our plan for getting the achievement: do nothing." Phase 2 was also our warrior applicant testing spot, where the MT would tell the clerics, in secret, to let him die, to see how good the warrior applicant next in line was in picking up unexpected aggro and tank swap. "Okay, our plan for testing new app: do nothing." Most fun we had with tank deaths though was Bixie 2: Pick the first tank to eat a death-touch and I buy you ice cream.
  15. Iila Augur

Early on in an expansion, I do favor the older spells for focus and type 3 benefits, but I remade spell sets a few weeks ago once I had everything upgraded. Guess I screwed up my Heal spell set, so swap in Resurgence for Vivification if you're looking for druid comparisons. Cast/recast is the same, but I was healing for less than I should have been.

Should we bounce druids and shaman off to their own threads?

2 things I have gathered so far, Roxx needs to add yaulp aa, and belkar needs to back off yaulp a bit, I think with that many casts of it, it may be slowing down your heals.

I am also seeing a lack of the intervention line of spells being cast, do people not trust them? I know I use them a lot on my cleric.

Some of my casts aren't showing, I manually yaulp, and it know I cast Focused Regen several times cause I had to reposition closer to the tank to get it to fire, but those were in the first stage, once we were in with the Prince, I popped a glyph and spammed my new hotkey nonstop, I didn't even group heal, I let the other cleric do that, I wasn't gonna let another tank go down. I was low on mana most of the first stage, but I still had QM and Staunch on deck. I had yaulp in my multibind once, but it gets cast too much. I REFUSE to use interventions, as the risk of hitting something I shouldn't is too high, I need to concentrate on healing people without worrying about waking the mezz'd, or pulling in a Banshee.

I might be weird but I still use the yaulp spell (not AA) because I want the extra mana regen to help me do the overhealing I sometimes need to (to compensate for those who haven't grown in their spell lineup usage - the "light" being primary cast, the "don't use both remedies and splash is part of my multibind" usage.

For Belkar, I set an audio trigger to go off when yalup fades. That has helped me tremendously to not overcast it and let the spell run it's natural course.

I always use one intervention and it's usually the 3rd in my 9 spell lineup when possible. But I tend to usually be in knight groups where I don't want to damage their adds (or as I mentioned the lich group where we don't kill them; we hold them until there's no other mobs up then we kill).

Tour - I do agree AA usage needs to be higher (and said I'm usually among the highest). Those events weren't typical as things went unusually well LOL. Here's some partially blinded results from 2 points last year when I was working with our healers to help change their spell sets and improve AA usage. I had some success with some, limited success with others.
With the 2nd one, it's before and after the new expansion came out so there's a blending of spell usage as some added the 2nd remedy and others you can tell didn't. I haven't raided a lot this year so waiting until I get a stronger base before I start the combined parses for this year.

For me and interventions I usually have 2 loaded as they are great heals and decent mana costs, and do dmg. I have them as my third and fifth in line. Knowing the raid/your targets role is what allows you to use them and not worry.
When I am healing anything that I might get agro, set it to summoning, or break a mez, I switch #3 to a renewal and #5 to the light line. #4 is usually my most current renewal, and ill switch that to #3 and the last renewal to #4.
