Chat channels do not exist for low level players

Chat works fine for higher level players. Level 21 and below (maybe higher, that is all I have tested so far), they don't connect. I cannot join, autojoin, etc. Not the New Players channel, General, class, etc.

When I log in, the game states it is autojoining channels, but then never does. I log to a level 110 on the account, and channels work just fine. Swap back to the lowbie, no channels. Close / reopen client, no channels. I can't /join channels, I don't even get an error response message. It's just like they are down entirely, which I know is untrue.

This was posted about in Player Support as well: https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?threads/fv-general-chat-not-working.268789/

The auto join list suggests you have to be level 21+ to join the Class based ones and 21+ to be in General, otherwise below 20 is New Players

If it isn't how it used to be then maybe it's a bug that got fixed or something

At 20 I didn't have channels, at 21 I still don't have channels. Not "New Players", class channels, or anything.

Chat channels work fine for multiple toons on multiple accounts across multiple levels - including level 1. Perhaps this is an All Access vs not issue? Mine are All Access.

Yeah, my level 2 with Gold / All Access has chat, but my 21 on a Silver account does not.

Somewhere along the line they restricted access for new or returning players without saying anything. There's no documentation I can find which lists when a Silver account is allowed access to chat channels, including the New Players channel. I can confirm it works for a level 110 silver, so somewhere between level 22-110 the chat channel features become available.

DEVS - Can we please have an answer, or documentation reference, stating when chat channels are allowed by non - All Access subscribers?

    Try leveling to 22.

"New Players" channel is only auto-joined by characters below a specific level.

Pretty sure General chat on mine don't work until level 22 on Silver. That is when auto join turns off. And you have to either join it or set up auto join for General or newplayer

    F2P only gets newplayers.

Oddly enough the flag that designates your account as Silver is "a chat token" lol

Nothing has been changed as you can see from my post back in 2016

The problem is, I cannot /join anything. I cannot /list, or any other chat channel command. Chat channels don't exist, the server doesn't exist, on my level 20 (and still the same when at 21) level Silver character. When I log in, the game tells me that it's autojoining channels, and then nothing happens after.

I log out and swap to a different character on the same account/server who is 110, and they work fine.

No newplayers channel, class channel, general channel, etc. This isn't a "green" free to play account. I've never had access to chat channels of any kind since creating this character a few days ago, on a Silver account.

Edit: leveling to 22 did not change this

Silver should match all access when it comes to chat, I believe.

Sounds like you're maybe running into some sort of bug.

Edit: I logged on a level 65+ character on the account, and he had chat channel access. SoI've trimmed this problem down between access to chat unlocking somewhere between 22-64.

The http://www.everquest.com/free/ page (which now forwards to https://www.everquest.com/membership and is the page auto-opened whenever a Silver/Free player camps out) lists "Unlimited Chat channel access" as an All Access Benefit.
    1. What does "Unlimited Chat channel access" mean?
    2. Why can a level 65 player use chat but a 20-22 cannot?
    3. Is there a special level where chat "unlocks" for characters, that we are not aware of?
Yeah, which is why this post is here.

Have you checked your options/general to make sure the autojoin general channels in options window is checked? You can turn off all your chat channels. Has that happened by accident?
  12. lockjaws Augur

Yeah man. Hence the "autojoining channels" message I receive in the beginning. But even if it wasn't checked, I should be able to /join Channelname. That command does not function nor has any error message behind it.

I have yet to have this problem happen to me, so I don't know how to fix it for sure.

But in the UI_<playername>_<servername>.ini there is a section [ChatManager]. Maybe this isn't set right.

WARNING : This will blow away your UI setup
Have you tried either removing that ini file and logging in through the patcher OR
on Char select hit the Reset UI to default and log in, then log out and make sure at char select the Reset UI to default is no longer checked (cause best to do it while you remember) then log back in and see with a default assigned UI things work.

Like I said. I don't know if this is going to work, but if you wanted to try it, it's something you can try.
  14. CatsPaws No response to your post cause your on ignore

Probably will fix itself as the character levels up.
  15. lockjaws Augur

Yeah. Nice idea, but I have blown away the player's UI file. It was originally copied from a working chat character.
