Casual TLP

I think there is a crowd that would support a 6mo 4mo server. I for one would. I work a full time job, sometimes 60+ hour work weeks. I have two kids ect ect. But I was a hardcore payer back in 1999 when I had the time. Now most of my hours are spoken for. I'd like to play on a server that I don't feel pressured to log a lot of hours to keep up. I've considered trying Agnarr but grouping options are limited. Anyway, point being there is a group of people like me that would love a slow burn in the game they used to love.

I do agree this forum is full of people that commit a lot of time to this game. The majority of casual people don't take the time to log into the forums to post. So the casuals voice is not heard as much. I just thought I'd share my personal view as a casual player.

Yeah so I have been playing EQ since launch on and off. I know what I want. But thank you for your input.

I like longer unlock idea but 6 month? Dont sure.
Maybe not only slower exp but also decreased drop rate? So raid boss not drop 20 items but 4-5?
So for players will be harder to obtain lvls and items, so them must spend more time than usual to be lvl 50/60/65 with BiS, like on Mischief everyone top lvls and BiS in 1 month after expansion release.

Also i think only one way to success for this slow exp/drop server if them not open new TLP servers anytime soon. Or it will be like Coirnav dead just after any new server realese with any faster exp rate :)

have 2 tlps, random loot, boxing allowed, make 1, 6months unlock for the casuals and the other one 2 or 3 months unlocks, pop loy and ldon could be a 3 month unlock also god and omens should be unlocked together because in the beta if i remember correctly they where made at the same time so it kills a tlp killer god.

    Would love it.

I used to drop 14-16 hours a day to play Everquest back in p1999 but life gets in the way now. Have played plenty on Agnarr and P1999 and would love the chance to go back to the classic era (or as classic as it gets here) and enjoy the world again slowly.

I would rather be paying to play here and supporting the game than playing free on an emulated server. I played on P99 for years, as well as many other emulated.

I don’t get why you guys think you will stay caught up in 4-6 month unlocks if you also want to slow down the xp rate. I have noticed this a lot and casual players don’t know how to level. You see it a lot at a TLP start when you group with randoms. They don’t know what spells to buy or get distracted/lost on the way. They don’t want to group up right away thinking exp is better soloing. I think if a casual server came out you would still be slow.

Like mischief is a really good server for casuals. You can buy some good gear for cheap farming plat and when you have time to play you could easily get caught up.

Really there can't be THAT many people wanting longer unlocks. Just look at all the tlp's during classic. After 1 month it starts to drop off cuz a lot of people at max or waiting for Kunark. Then same with Kunark after 1 to 2 months its dying cuz people are waiting again for next expansion. Longer unlocks is insane. If they have longer unlocks just go ahead and make it PVP as well so we can get that crap out of the way.

A slow release server isn't for people that want to rush to max level. It would be for people who want to take a month to get to max level and still have time to gear up though raiding one or two times a week before the next xpac launches.

What hardcore guild only requires 4 hours a week of raiding? Most raid 3 days a week, if not more. DKP guilds I have been in won't let people below a certain %RA (e.g., 50%) bid on items against people with a higher set %RA (e.g., 85%). You also are not including time to key for raids or AA exp.

Same, thats why when he said "This server already exists, its called p99" I listed all the things p99 doesnt have that I like having on a tlp, and I 100% agree about supporting them as well.

Have you ever played a TLP with long unlocks?

Here's the thing though. There may be a group that enjoys the slow game and can only log in a few hours a week, but there aren't enough of you to make the game what you want it to be. You want a robust pug scene? Or at least a healthy grouping situation. With Ultra-casuals, you need a far larger population to accomplish this, as you log on for fewer hours each week. Or, you need the support of players who log on far more frequently than you do, the casuals and hardcore folks, to build that healthy grouping scene that you enjoy. Those people will not put up with 6 months, they just won't.

Your best bet is to play on a three month server and accept that you will always be a little behind and embrace it. You have three months to get to 50, but 9 to get to 60, and 6 to get to 65. That is plenty of time, even for an ultra-casual. Yeah you won't likely be raiding, but can you really reliably commit 4-8 hours a week to raiding? You will be able to keep up with, and enjoy the group game. On Mischief, you can even still get raid gear. You don't even need to spend Krono on it. Go farm GE named and eventually you will get lucky enough to get a shrink wand, sell and pick yourself up some nice gear.

Mischief is the ultimate ultra-casual server, you guys just don't realize it. This game will never be what it was in 1999. The population plays MMO's differently, but you can still find enjoyment in it for what it is.

I'm sure there are plenty of raid guilds that don't have these ridiculous requirements (I'm in one). There isn't enough raid content to raid 3 days a week in most expansions unless they are running designated alt raids on some nights. I haven't heard of needing a high RA to bid since like POP was live in 2004. That seems like a downright lie.

I have well less than 100 total days played on my char on Aradune. That equates to something like 15 hours a week playing and this is also considering Aradune released during the height of COVID, while I was still unmarried, had no baby, and was working from home every single day. I had literally zero issues keeping up with anything and still don't now that my life is drastically different than it was just two years ago.

Good thing you're here to increase that population by one.

They raid 3 times a week yeah and you only have to make one. Very few guilds have 50% some have none and some would be once a week which would be 33%. Honestly if you want to pour thru the guilds on the last 2021 and 2020 years of server launches I wonder if you could even find more than 1 per server that does what your talking about. Those days are pretty much over.

How about a combination Ultra-Casual/PvP server. You can have the long unlock timers of 6 months+ since the PvPers say killing pixels is boring anyways and it's all about the fighting each other. And every week DBG can rotate which zones are PvP Enabled; which would give the Ultra-Casuals a chance to get out and explore different areas to level in. If you log out in a zone that then becomes PvP Enabled you can have a choice of being ported back to your starting city; will help keep the ultra-casuals from being ganked if they want to avoid it.
