Casual TLP

So, just curious if there's anyone else out there that might like this. I get that there is a large population that has the time and enjoys playing the TLP's in a fairly hardcore manner...racing to each new raid, etc. And that's fine...honestly, I wish I could too!

But I'm wondering if there's others that might enjoy a casual TLP? One where the unlocks are much longer...perhaps double what the last ones were. 4 months with no level change, 6 months with level cap raising. I've really enjoyed my first go on the TLP's, but I found that it started to become all about trying to keep pace and never having time to do the other things like tradeskilling, working on epic, etc...because it all just moved too fast.

I like the random loot, particularly in the earlier expansions, and I think for a slow server you'd have to have no item trade so that trade didn't just become overrun with raid loot by the inevitable folks that would still play hardcore on this server...but that's mostly secondary to just having the time to experience each expansion.

Are there other casual players that might like a TLP server to really enjoy each era and smell some flowers?

There is interest in slower pace TLPs. It gets brought up every other week. Majority of the people here are the hardcore type you discribed. They will say it won't work because it's not what they want. They will point out how their guilds on three month unlock servers raid log for the last few weeks of every expansion. Truth is no one here has enough information to know if it makes business sense for daybreak.

I think that if they launched a one off server (like miragul) not in may, and it was a Classic Start, Velious Lock, 9 month unlock server with very very slow XP rates, that it would have a healthy population for quite some time

I would play there for years.

I would be a huge fan of longer TLP unlocks, but I don't understand stopping at Velious (or PoP or whatever). What is the appeal of a TLP stopping at a certain expansion? As long as people had plenty of time to do everything they wanted, why not keep moving forward? It seems to me that a TLP that hits a dead end will die when it gets there.

Many people think the Trilogy of Classic, Kunark and Velious are the best part or only real eq or whatever they want to call it. This can be seen by how many people are on P99 (and play each new server from classic?). I personally would rather play on a db server rather than an for all the QoL features and otherwise...

But thats why I suggested it as a one off server. You can grind on the newest server each may, hit your stopping point in each expac or when you get bored of it, and always have the classic feel to come back to, before the next tlp or different ruleset you want to explore or whatever. And if after 3 years, you are full bis in velious gear, start another toon. With such slow xp rates it will be a whole new journey to 60 and getting geared. Tons of people are still doing this on agnar and that came out 5 years ago almost

Most people who can't keep up with a regular 3 month unlock server generally don't stick with TLPs that long, so these servers are not a good idea. Many of the people they are intended to serve would never see past Kunark. There are servers or Agnarr that are a better option for such players.

Based off my experience, I don't think longer unlocks is a good idea.

My guild on Mangler always feel heavier attrition on 3 month expansions then we experience on 2 month ones. Generally it's more casual players that tune out the back half of the expansion. The hardcores members are normally committed to the game, even if they are bored.

My brother and I fall into this camp. But, May will be our first TLP and we also don't plan to play 50 hours straight to hit max level or regularly play 6 hours each day. Maybe that amount of time is an exaggeration, but honestly that's what hardcore TLPers sound like to us.

It'd be nice if in addition to the normal fast unlock TLP, they had another TLP server that was sort of a middle ground or followed something closer to the original release cycle, with exceptions for some xpacs.

But with that... a longer unlock cycle with nerfed xp rates would be a hard pass for us. We're not looking for a long-term grueling grind for the same experience.

For launches, the most hardcore players these days are pretty tame, 99.9% tap out at around 18-24 hour sessions. I've made a top 3 finish on each of the last 3 TLP servers, and I never exceeded 24 hour sessions FWIW. I believe Zaide pushed 35+ hours on the last TLP, but he is an anomaly lol. Now for expansion launches, that's where the real hardcore crowd comes out. I've heard of people staying up for 4 days straight for competitive expansion launches. Coincidentally, I usually quit before those time requirements are needed lol.

People trying to create a P99 with QoL type server is why they want it to stop at Velious

a slower exp tlp with random loot could be succesfull with boxing allowed for the casual players and it would allow people to catch up if it was 4 to 6 months,as long as it is launched along a 2 or 3 month unlock tlp with loy and ldon unlocking with pop and boxing.

This server exists its called p99

This is the truth. It only takes about 50 hours to get to get from 1-50 . Much less from 50-60. Raid guilds either have no R/A requirement or 1 day a week req. Raids are 3-4hours. After you hit cap it only takes 4 hours a week to be a part of a "hardcore" guild. Players that cant play even 4 hours a week you cant build a server around.
  15. Crabman Augur

Oh right, I love my P99 maps and and advanced loot window and extended target window and picks and aocs and target of target and using clickies from inventory and brightness upgrade revamped research and revamped dots and no corpse runs...

Yup sounds like they are exactly the same. If only I had thought about p99 before posting about how it would basically be a p99 but with QoL features right below what you quoted.
  16. rangerous Elder

They gave p99 their blessing db isnt going to copy it with QoL

So you consider 3 months "quite some time"
  18. Crabman Augur

Well as I posted right below what you quoted was that there are still people on agnarr. A few raiding guilds, and when I was there a few weeks ago, still people lfg in the 30s and 40s. Agnar was what 5 years ago? That sounds like quite some time to me
  19. FranktheBank Augur

Agnarr is fantastic. You should play there. If the agnarr population was the population of a new TLP, it would be a failure.

Also, Agnarr isnt a slow unlock server. It's a locked server while has a different appeal.
  20. Crabman Augur

Agnarr had tons of people at launch, what do you mean a failure. And it STILL has plenty of people. You went from calling it fantastic to a failure in 2 sentences so I’m not sure what your getting at.

Also in the first post of mine which you quoted I said a velious locked server. For agnarr to get to ldon took about a year and a half so I was making it take the same amount of time to get to velious while appeasing the “slow unlock crowd”. And then to make sure people aren’t done with the expansion in 3 days, added in the very slow xp rates.
