Speaking of the track skill. A major immersion breaker right here. It has nothing to do with tracking. It's a military grade radar.

So all gnomes should get track?;p

    a wizard did it

But seriously, Al`Kabor experimented on the Combine Empire's wizard spires and allowed us to use them to travel to the moon.

So basically, we've practically listed every single aspect of the game as "breaking immersion".

The minute the lore started being stretched so that the world as we knew it in 1999 became obsolete. Worldwide ports available to everyone and condensed (purposely) populations to central zones pok crescent reach etc. Time travel... The gods being so helpless (one man killing a god)... I could go on, summoning is annoying but given a magic world I don't argue with the mechanics all that often.

Nothing that happens in Kedge Keep breaks immersion. It can't. Because, well, it's immersed. /snicker

Not a single thing listed here breaks immersion for me the only 2 things that break my immersion are 1 No music 2 when someone says hey come out here and watch this in real life and I have to tell them I can't for a minute there is no pause.

Putting eq in a window. Now i can break immersion when ever i fell like it, before once i started eq i was kinda committed to playing eq.

I was going to say all the names and group affiliations floating above people's heads breaks my immersion, but then I realized here in a few years we could have that all the time in RL with Google Glass, Gear Glass, and the like.

To be fair, at least they aren't allowing plate classes to use cloth hero's forge gear and vice versa . That would just completely break immersion, right?

I think you're all missing the point.

Summoning, number-based aggro, etc. exist simply because the technology that goes into designing intelligent, reactive AI is still in its infancy. EQNext is taking a major leap towards making that kind of game design viable.

You're talking about a game that is almost entirely run on code from 1999. Things like intelligent AI are so mind-blowingly difficult to achieve that you're essentially asking SOE to rewrite this game from the ground up.

The "holy trinity" of MMOs (tank/healer/dps) exist simply due to the limitation on AI.

If you program a mob to "intelligently" select the easiest targets first, every single caster dps will die instantly, then melee dps shortly after, then healers, then unsupported tanks. What you're asking for is simply impossible in a game like this. The holy trinity exists for a reason, and it serves its purpose well.

I really don't understand this mentality of attacking SOE over things that they literally can't do a thing about. Use your head, the limitations are pretty clear. Despite some idiotic decisions made throughout this game's development, they've stretched this 15 year old game to some pretty amazing limits.

No. Summoning was put in as an anti-kiting mechanic. Since its inception they have figured out better ways to anti-kite such as unsnarable/unrootable mobs and high runspeed mobs. Summoning especially by trash mobs, really doesn't make sense. It was a bad idea at inception and its been exploited by the devs themselves.
There should be a reason behind why a mob can do what it can do. Is the mob a mage? then sure it can summon. Is it the EQ equivalent of Jason Vorhees? then sure it can summon(or better yet just pop on top of you!) If they wanna make other mobs harder to kite, then make it make sense:

The elemental(whirlwind) types immune to root and snare(they have no legs to root or snare,) or...
Give them bonuses to the already existing root checks( a_large_rat chews through the roots freeing himself!)
Or even immunities that make sense, the_blue_beetle crawls thru the ensnaring vines.)

Be a lot of easy ways to have fun with stuff like that, and use what is already pre-existing in the game.without making everything "lame-summon."

When a mob does summon there should be a sound effect like the cha-cha-cha from Friday the 13th movies! That would be funny! Could add it to a knights Hate's Attraction! (make the pally version really high pitched though or annoying like Gilbert Godfrey or Chris Tucker Cha-cha-cha!)

Honestly, I find it hilarious that people are complaining about monsters and npc's having a way they can magically make people which they are in combat with appear before them. Summoning like this has been around in fantasy RPG games since before the existence of MMOs or even MUDs. Get over it, some mobs can summon; most can't.

My amusement comes from the fact we are in a fantasy land with magic, mythical creatures, zombies and even aliens.. and people are complaining that it doesn't work like reality.

    ... *opens his eyes*

    I'm not in Kansas anymore

Look. Summoning mobs are fine. I find it a fun little challenge mixup. A change of pace.
If you don't want to fight mobs that summon, find ones that don't there are TONS of XP zones that have like 0 mobs that summon.
VALLEY, Argath, Beast domain, Evantil... Windsong.. Plane of Knowledge..

If nothing summoned, I could run around a zone with no pants on screaming LOLOLOLOLOL and get experience.

I like a challenge. No easy mode please

arn't you an enchanter main? therefor can't you do this anyways?

that all being said im still going for nerfs. the whole know how of doing something one way, then 'forgetting' or 'getting worse at it' screams to me that the whole player base got a partial frontal lobotomy overnight. Unless there is a God of memory that when hungry (cause gods hunger?) eats a type of spell/ability for all eternity? That acualy might make a VERY flavorful x-pac, get to go in and 'kill' an OPed god and 'gain back' lost abilitys. of corse could do the whole Quarm thing and as we are dealing the finishing blow the god eats the memory of itself there by not being killed.

This is the one that gets me: Focus the Crystal Geode (Guild Hall Portal)

You buy the "port stone" from a guy, then hand it back to the same guy!. Why not just have it as clickable text for the destinations? It could just deduct the money from you before punting.
    -----------------------------------------------------
    You say, 'Hail, Zeflmin Werlikanin'

Zeflmin Werlikanin tells you 'Hello ______. ? I can teleport you to the following destinations for a small fee, please choose your destination:

    Arcstone
    Argath
    Barindu, Hanging Gardens
    Brell's Rest
    Cobalt Scar
    Commonlands
    Dragonscale Hills
    Dreadlands
    Ethernere Tainted West Karana
    Feerrott, the Dream

    * PlayerXXX clicks "Zone Name", is charged whatever PP it costs, and is magically teleported away.

With the current state of the game, just make all of the prices the same. Plat is so mud-flated anyway, it would not make a difference. :)
