You need to have an extremely high AC:HP ratio for form of defense to win out. The base AC:HP ratio for ward+end vs defense is ~23:1. However, if you consider the gap between raw and buffed ac (the gap between raw and buffed ac is much bigger than that of HP), you'd need to use a ~32:1 AC:HP ratio on your augs/gear for a 23:1 Buffed AC:HP ratio to make sense. Main benefits of using defense is that is takes up one fewer buff slots, and some raids/mobs have resist debuffs that strip ward (since ward is also a resist buff.) But I don't think any warrior should use defense if he/she has a same tier end+ward clicky.

AC > HP. That's just EverQuest 101; not specific to heroic warriors, but is the first thing every tank should learn.
