or just be a class that can lull and/or root, and/or mez, and not with fd pulling at all

Player DPS: Spells have been revamped about a dozen times, and generally do a lot more than they originally did for less damage. Melee dps has also been revamped several times, and an additional across the board melee boost was added by way of a passive aa. Monk hand to hand tables have been adjusted, then nerfed on the tlp's, but still much more damage than original. Damage formulas for weapon damage have changed too. Pet dps has been dramatically increased. Charm pet dps has been even more dramatically increased. End result, you can kill mobs about 3-4x faster than on original classic eq.

Player tanking: AC Hard caps are gone, and soft caps have been adjusted significantly. On top of that, mitigation and avoidance have been tinkered with a half dozen times. End result, you will take less damage tanking mobs than during original classic eq, whether you are a tank or any other class.

The game has not sat static while you all have been away, and all the changes to core game mechanics that have been made over the past ~15 years of development impact the progression servers too.

You really are clueless, try grouping in lguk undead side and see how long you last without a puller, ranger can arrow all he wants it wont matter when he brings back the 10 red con frog brigade through walls with no way to reset, also what are you even talking about with "player power" melee classes are going to be complete garbage untill a year later when everyone has fungi tunics on their alts, full bronze armor and fine steel longsword? the only powerful characters in EQ1 are twinks period

People without a good puller or mezer are going to feel the pain, when you see the mass piles of corpses on day 1 in crushbone because of trains you will know why, you wont even live MM

If your bard isn't clueless, and liberally applies lull to everything they can see, then they can pull tightly packed places like the tower in lguk with only 1-2 adds very consistently. Generally the bard will want to bring back 2-3 anyways so they can mez park the adds while the group works their way through them.

FD pulling takes too long, in a tight dungeon the bard is generally better at quickly splitting a room. The monk is better at not dying if they get unlucky with a root.

Give the same skills, fastest puller = bard, safest puller = monk. An equiped bard can just train them all and AE slow, throw in a mez here and there if needed.

Best puller is going to be anyone or anything with a ranged attack and knows how mob pathing works.

So buy a long bow from a vendor basically.
  9. Phantom Ghost Augur

Any class. Don't know why everyone went off on a tangent about splitting mobs.
  10. Wolrok Elder

Same reason a lot of people suggested rogue for a character class to an autistic aspergers guy in another thread.

A response isn't even merited, you show your severe lack of knowledge with this reply. Safe to say you are in the "bad player" category afterall. Anyone who knows what they're doing can pull lguk just fine.

The "FD" takes too long, is silly. FD splitting is very quick if you know where your sneak key is, and how to use it. Also, once a room is broken, pulls come at a steady pace. There is no need for ongoing splitting unless you suck at setting up your pulls and timing them, that's all part of being a good puller. The biggest problem is, the initial split, and that's why you want a monk in classic. Necros will get faceplanted the first time they try to cast FD and get ganked by 3 red con stunning frogs, SKs are a much better choice as they may live to get a cast off. Bards/pac/lull pulling are all bad, because groups want to fight red mobs, and the first resist means your group is wiped.

The notion that "player power" has gotten to the point, that your group of gimped melee in banded with fine steel swords, is going to be tearing up red con mobs in lower guk, is probably the most laughable thing I've read on these forums for a while. People are used to having twinked melee, and forget how utterly horrible they are in true classic gear. This problem becomes much worse come Kunark (which won't be long after release), as mobs start to hit much harder, and splitting and CC becomes even more important. Wander into CoM at level 35 in banded and tell me how you do.

Classic *is* relatively easy, but it's tuned for people in crap gear. Lower guk in banded and fine steel, and fighting red con mobs will still wipe you if you pull 5 mobs.

    TLDR: Monk by a mile.

OK, so you just need a chanter that can FD or a monk that can mez. Got it.
  14. Tachyon Augur

Warrior! On a crowded server, which it will be, you want to pull as much as you can, control and then kill. No nuance about it!
  15. Rhodz Augur

90% of pulls consist of running close enough to something to piss it off and let it follow you back to it's certain death. The trick is doing it without bringing it's entire extended family to your certain death.

That is pulling, go nuts, have fun.
    The best pullers enjoy it.

Bards will only become best once PoP is released, and since they asked at start, they're just as good as any class with pacify :p

    Which is really good btw.
