    Greetings,

I made a Bard who is currently level 24. Trying to raise all my skills. I wear all Defiant armor so I do not have to equip any instruments.

I am stuck at Brass at level 1. I tried going /afk while playing Denon's Disruptive Discord http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=730

But it keeps saying Your Spell Did Not Take Hold. On my wizard, I can fire off PBAEs without targets, shouldn't this work the same way?

What is the best way to level up Brass?

My approach to leveling skills like this is usually getting Deftness or Expertise on bards (can't remember which means you cant fail casting) then just putting one up overnight. Typically nets about 200 skill in 12 hours and can't fail in a /melody if you prefer to do 4 at once.

It should be noted the ability i'm talking about is found in archtype, AA section.

Go to a zone where combat is allowed.

I played DDD in the arena zone, outside of the arena, overnight. That is a lesson that tree will not soon forget! It looks like it was changed to require a target - Lame! You might wait until 26 to use http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=706 Angstlich's Appalling Screech. If not, then wait until 42 and use http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...rd&level=--N/A--&opt=And Higher&action=search McVaxius's Berzerker Crescendo. Realistically, before MBC, the only spells that use brass are the two Denons and the Fear (AAS). If they require a target, you will skill up naturally, using them. If you don't use any of those, just wait until 42

Combat dummies in your guild hall will give skillups for songs requiring a target.

    Awesome, thanks for the replies!

I know I am late to the party here, but Gladare and Feradach are correct. Any detrimental spell/song requires that you be in a combat zone. Additionally, you typically need a target. Viable targets are, yourself, a merc (in the arena), guildhall practice dummies (only available in the new neighborhood guildhalls) and another player or his/her pet (which you probably will have to duel if not in the arena).

I would like to add that you can use the first brass Denon's in Gfay at the defunct druid spires. Get several forest drakelings dotted and they will run at low hp then path back to you. There are no guards here so it is safe to play melody overnight. I twist heals and denon's here and it worked well to skill up at lower levels.
