Aug 17th Patch - AA res now costs mana

    Howdy!

Just wondering about the logic behind this change. Was there really a zerg issue so that a mana cost needed to be added to the cleric AA res?

Also, it's my understanding that focus effects and specializations don't work on AAs. So does this 600 mana cost actually take 600 mana, which is almost twice as much as the spell version once you factor in focii and specializations?

Just really seems like "hey, let's fix something that isn't broken but is sure to piss people off" territory.

    Agreed 100%

The only thing it accomplishes is to annoy. That's all. At worst, it punishes raid forces that struggle. 600 isn't much, but it's still pointless.

I've already had several long time guild members quit. Who will be next at this rate? What kind of pointless nerf will come next?

This is the same thing they did to the wizard Force line. The justification was that the AA cost more mana because it can be cast during a universal cool down despite that being the opposite of the AAs descriptions. I think it's actually more of a streamlining of abilities and spells so that they can be programmed more quickly by less people, but I don't really have any idea what the truth is.

Paladins got hit with that also, its kind of silly to be honest. Paladin version run you 700 mana. So now if you die and had nothing else to do besides battle rez your not even doing that unless you have your rez stick and that will probably get nerfed next patch.

Adding a mana cost to an AA ability is absolutely, 100% simply a nerf for the sake of nerfing, especially for something as harmless as the rez AA.

    There's no reasoning behind this.
    There's no logic involved.
There's no game balance issue at stake.

This is a lazy dev (or devs) looking at something, seeing a mana cost of 0, not understanding what they're seeing, and deciding to change it. Plain and simple.

My guess is there will be new AAs in the next expansion (or whatever they decide to call it) that remove the mana cost. That's the only reason I can see for making a change like this.

Would like to see an official response, but not holding my breath. Also it makes me wonder if this isn't the thin edge of the wedge and we'll be seeing more mana cost AA's. :(

Sucks on mana drain events... I thought Epic were being made obsolete?

Maybe they'll make AAs factor in Focus, Spell Casting Mastery and Specialization? Then it won't be as ridiculous?

Guess you go from 3 second Rez to 10 second epic click when you don't want to burn the mana now. Atleast you don't need to equip the epic to click it anymore.

It's frustrating when the devs are not communicating why they are making these AA changes. Guess I'll be using my Staff of Forbidden Rites instead of the AA during raids.

I suppose our insta heal aas are next.

Heh heh I remember when I posted suggesting that the name sweep on servers was done in preparatio for server merges and a dev rushed in to explain why they were doing it. Of course it probably is for erver mergers but they are shy about it for some reason.

Here people ask for an explanation about adding a mana cost to the aa res and probably won't get one. It's interesting which questions they choose to answer or not answer and which get the quickest attention.

The res aa was to replace the epic from having to be carried around, i suppose they might be adding the mana cost to our epic.

This nerf has the same feeling as: We nerf everyone else first! kind of argument that a five year old would purpose.

    Welcome our newest EQ Overlords.

    Nice job DB!

Was this even mentioned in the patch notes? I didn't see it.

I guess the Devs don't raid in EQ because when our clerics die and no longer have Quiet Miracle, they are told to rez until they get some mana. So this change is rather important, since it just blew that strategy out of the water. I guess they can use their epics for a longer casting rez....until that gets a mana requirement as well...

Cleric - Consolidated Hastened Blessing of Resurrection to be ranks 2-4 and Quickened Blessing of Resurrection to be ranks 5-7 of Blessing of Resurrection. Added a 600 point mana cost to this ability to match Reviviscence.

I don't quite get why either. Not that it takes long to get 600 mana after death, but still... Why? I suspect we'll find out next expansion though... all of these changes are likely for the next expansion.

    What some fail to realize:
After death and before you actually have rec'd a resurrection you have what is called Resurrection Sickness. While under this: Mod Rods, QM, VP, Kiss of Marr all seem to fail to return mana(or all the clerics, myself included, that I've talked to are very unlucky) while still consuming their use... I can't speak for mana potions but I'd imagine they are likewise nullified by the Resurrection Sickness. Also mana regeneration while under resurrection sickness is slow to non-existent, so adding in a 600 pt cost or 400 point cost or any other value cost is a real big impact to what can be done... It means that dead cleric upon bannering back into raid event must locate first their own corpse rez it once they accumulate sufficient mana, be reset to 0 mana for accepting their own rez. Now they can make use of QM, VP, Mod rod and start rezzifying others consuming that precious mana, instead of letting mana regenerate up, and getting people standing, and a modicrum of buffs.

I also don't understand DB's logic in this change, it is very annoying, and I shudder to imagine what DB has in store for us next...

You mean Revival Sickness, it caps your mana at 4k. If you were standing around clicking Res AA with that cap on before instead of getting your body & getting back into the fight, and this motivates you to change that behavior? That's a win for any raid you were participating in.
  19. Brudal Augur

Wonder is this is actually Revival Sickness instead as it has lines to cap your mana and endurance at 20% or 4k whichever is lowest

  20. bbanz Elder

Betting they are looking at Burst and Beacon next....
