You have to drop plat on the ground, then walk away, then walk up to it and click it, and immediately pick up an item from your inventory and if you do it at the right time then the plat doubles up.
I heard they're just wrapping up implementation on the new dupe mechanic and starting to open it up to beta testing for the in group meant to benefit on the next server launch.
