Alternate Persona

Same reason why that restriction still exists on the character select screen.

Has anyone been able to test this? By their use of "persona", i'm getting split personality vibes. So same race: restricted classes based on that race. I could be wrong. It would be great if we can select a whole new race altogether...but from the screenshot of the persona tab i saw, it didn't show anything of the sort. Just classes.

I may be. Developers idea, coders job to implement it I guess. And I'm excited about it as well. Just my thought process on it.
  2. Waring_McMarrin Augur

And I am saying that when you create a persona you will choose the race and not be restricted to your current race.

It doesn't make sense at all to limit it to classes your race can be, when there are races that can only be 5 classes and some that can be 13. As an example what would happen if a person sets up all 13 classes a human can play as personas and later race changes to a barbarian who can only play 5 classes 3 of which humans can't. That seems like a scenario for disaster.

As it appears they are going to be charging for slots based on getting them with the pre order I don't think they would leave money on the table by limiting how many you can make based on your race.

So basically a game breaking vision change.
High elves smart casters, good/cleanse races.
    Ogres evil evil magics

To throw out the vision throw out the lore everyone wins changes.

These are things you do in a new game.
If your turning a games original vision into something else.
    Coin weight gone.
    Corpses purpose of them gone.
    Purpose of race. gone
    Purpose of faction gone

    Original vision gone.

Make EQ3, why you mess with in EQ1 the original vision?
This are indicators its time for a new game, not time to mess up the lore and everything of EQ.

Any race should be any class in todays time, but do it in EQ3, why mess up an original game vision?

    btw your statement
Ogres don't have cloth armor visibles.

They must be making new armor designs finally. Been 10-15 years since they did anything to new armor designs. Something you expect to get from every other MMORPGs expansions, new armor designs.

Why change the original game's vision?
Thats where EQ3 comes in, why change change change change.
"miss EQ but its not the same anymore"
yeah its worse. They got rid of makes EQ EQ.
Different time back then, it made sense back then, people remember that specific time of playing the game, those vibes back then.

can't mix match vibes back then plus these game breaking vision changes, they don't mix.

Nostalgia yep if only that kind of game was like the original with,
    no this
    no that
    no this
    no that
    no this
game breakin original vision changes. belong in EQ3 not EQ.

From the UI example that was datamined I would say no, or at least, not right now, it's not like EQ currently has "Spec Trees" like WoW has so EQ Classes can't have 1 of 3 specs, which might be a valid reason to have mutiples of a single class as Personas so you could go Arms Warrior, Protection Warrior or Fury Warrior on separate personas to fast switch without respecs.
  5. Waring_McMarrin Augur

People can already play both evil and good accounts on the same account, this isn't that different then that. They can also race change from a good race to an evil race as long as the race supports that class and this isn't that different from that.

I don't know why anyone assumes when you create a persona you'll be limited to the same race as your main/current. It's a really simple fix if they are going through all this effort to just let your persona be a different race.

Also all the fear of an ogre caster is funny when this game has had illusions forever. If you want to play a version of EQ1's "original vision" you can still do that, most of us have enjoyed the expansions over the past 24 years though and the game would be dead if it never changed at all. Lol EQ3.

I do see why you would think that but my gut says no. I think the "illusions system" is going to be kept separate - and I support illusion items that allow players to be any player-race being in the game & acessible - the Troll illusion clickie is a bit of a sore point though since there is only 1 item like that & it's immensely pricey.

If they don't let you play as your original race for all classes they may as well go with the shroud races for classes like Bear for Berserker, Fairy for Enchanter, Eyball for Wizard etc.

Not being able to play as your orginal character was a big part of why shrouds were not popular (also the huge XP nerf) and I could see it not playing well with people that they are being railroaded into appearing as another race than the one they enjoy playing as to be able to use the AP system.

I genuinely do feel that the All races can be All classes approach will be what AP ends up with and the issues around that will get addressed to make it work as it provides a big enough incentive to do it & get it right.
  8. Waring_McMarrin Augur

They have no reason to support all races being all classes due to various graphics issues. However they do have reason to let personas be any race/class because it solves other issues such as complaints about not being able to roll a beastlord or berserker on TLP launch. Now you would be able to keep all your items, flagging, achievements, skills and other items when you create a new persona when those classes unlock.

This feature is going to be completely different then shrouds in that you will be playing an actual character for a given race/class and it acts exactly like that race/class would if it was a normal alt. The problems with shrouds are that they are nothing like a normal character that a player can play while the personas wouldn't have that problem as they are exactly what they can play with alts.

It seems like it would be easier to support making a persona of a different race then supporting all races be all classes with all the issues that would bring up. Just think of how many combinations would have no support for a lot of the earlier armor including tradekill armor that is limited by race, class and diety.
  9. Skuz I am become Wrath, the Destroyer of Worlds.

Maybe you will be right, maybe I will be, speculation is fun is it not?

Personally I think that forcing players to be a Monster or a completely different race for their AP are not so different at all - in both cases they cannot be the Race they chose originally.
  10. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Not sure there is much to speculate about letting all classes be all races as that is something they would have announced. As for restricting it to classes your race can be that is also a pretty major limitation and I would question why it was not in the announcement if it as a restriction.

    "Work in Progress"
  12. Randomized Augur

But no one knows for sure. As skuz said, perhaps you'll be right, perhaps I will be. I don't care one way or another. This is just looking from the outside in.

I'd assume the same thing that happens now on live when you're wearing cultural armor for one race and race change to another.

Disclaimer: I actually have no idea what happens lol i'm assuming you're just out an entire set of armor/augs? :p

Edit: My biggest concern is: yes it's a new feature and all the points you make are spot on. But why would they change things for a feature and not implement it throughout an entire game?..which now that i'm saying it out loud makes the whole "pick a new race/class combo per persona" a lot more likely lol
  13. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Advertising personas for any class and launching it with only having a limited selection sounds like a recipe for disaster.
    Xianzu_Monk_Tunare likes this.
  14. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Why would they advertise making personas and not mention a major restriction such as only being able to make classes based on your current race? That seems like something their legal team would tell them not to do.

And what about when that race/class doesn't have any that they can wear and they have an extremely limited set of items they can use because of the expansion they have unlocked on the server since this is going to be available on TLP servers?

Yep, picking a race/class combo that is unlocked on the server solves a lot of potential problems with the system.

    Scope & unexpected problems.

The scope we do not know & have not been told because it may not be fully implimentable, similarly any caveats, limitations or problems have not been spoken of because they may be able to find solutions to them during the development of the feature.

The Known, the Known Unknowns & the Unknown Unknowns.

(And Gnomes are always involved in Unknowns, so we also have Gnomeds, Gnomed UnGnomeds, & UnGnomed UnGnomeds)
  16. Randomized Augur

Why would they advertise personas and not give us any information whatsoever? 2 sides to the same coin.

I assume it'd be like the character select screen. Options do not become available until the proper expansion is unlocked, so it would prevent that from happening.

Could also be a cash grab though too with limited persona spots. How does it work per se? Do we get X amount of spots available per server/account, meaning if we only get 1 with the expansion, we have to be careful which character we activate it on? Or is it X amount of slots per character?

If it's per account/server, i could see the restriction staying in place in order to shoehorn people into making a new character and buy another persona slot, thus increasing the time they stay in the game playing.

I only play humans and barbs...and if i could be shammie/zerker/bst as human..i'd only play human.

You don't think that hasn't already been considered in the design phase of the development?
  20. fransisco Augur

they won't ever do all classes for all races for a number of reasons:
    1. graphics - so much gear isn't drawn for certain races. Thats a HUGE amount of work we all don't want devs to waste time on. (admitedly they'll just waste that on worthless tlp stuff)
    2. animations - many races lack certain animations. Monk kicks, 2h swings, instruments, all sorts of things. All these animations would need to be created for every race
    3. npcs - they would need to create npcs and guilds and all sorts of work for all classes to have all races.
There is a huge amount of work involved in doing this. Especially since no one is gonna do all classes on one character.
