Alternate Persona

    I take it you miss roleplaying aspect of the game. But the fact is that hasn't been part of the game for at lest 10-15 years.

    We are unlikely to ever see all races be all classes in Everquest though doesn't FF14 the game you keep talking about have that where any race can be any class/job?

    Yep, but thats because the was originally visioned like that.

    EQ is vision keeps changing and all races be all classes with AP changes it even more.

    In EQ3 it would makesense.

    change races/classes any
    change this

    Losing the old days the nostalgia
    Thats a lose scenario

    Then if you do not do updates thats a lose scenario too.
    However, these are wins, updates where follow is better, jumping is better, movement is smoother, more things to do, besides kill stuff and raids. Keeping everything as is but more to do. We ride on ships, we have meta events.
    Open world raiding, mass gatherings to defeat something thats a meta event, old school EQ, other games have old school EQ vibes.

    Old School EQ vibes here but in newer game
    GW2 has parts of the old school EQ vibes while EQ is losing its ways with thinking like any race any class.

    EQ does not have the most people per raid, that event is larger than 72.
    A lot going on, more than what I see in serious EQ raids. Be mindful if you have a full zone expect to beat it, that raid is a lot harder with less people. It's just like EQ old days, a lotta show up, chances of winning goes up.

    EQ got rid of that for instances
    EQ is getting rid of its original vision, wood elves their purpose and the high elves masters of magic.

    You forget this is an MMORPG

    It's not your make raids easier, make more raids game, raids only game, end game players only.

    This game is turning into competitive modern day game.

    If anything be anything, tradeskills don't matter either.
    Whole game vision, design is going into makes no sense just everyone everything.

    Everyone is your participation trophy. Here is a win for everyone.
    Thats not RPG.
    Those high intellect they are no tanks.
    Those trolls/ogres are no enchanters.

    This is EQ's vision, if you want to go do something continually and 10 years from now EQ is totally different.

    Why you do it on EQ, rather than EQ3, modern engine, good everything. You basically changed the game completely, why you do it on EQ and not EQ3?

    FFXIV is not the same times as EQ, nor WoW.
    FFXIV is 3 tiers more modern than EQ.
    EQ > EQ2/WoW > this tier bunch of losers > GW2/ESO/FFXIV
    GW2/FFXIV/ESO all play similar, thats where everyone is everything.
    Thats how those games were visioned day 1.

    EQ not visioned that way day 1.
    You want to keep changing EQ, make EQ3.

    As someone who has been playing starting back in 01 I have to disagree with you even back then there was very little role-playing in the game. At lest on the servers I was on. My guild would do a event here and there but most of the time it was just find a group and go do quest and xp. No one really did anything else. I don't feel anything being done has doing anything bad to the game.

    A caster can bind in a lot of different places, whereas a non caster cannot bind.

    If the melee makes a caster alternate persona, gets bind affinity, then goes somewhere and binds, then switches back to the main melee... is the melee now also bound in that spot?

    If so, I can see a lot of melee making a caster persona for that specific reason.

    Personas seem interesting to me. Heck make a token for me to absorb an alt through market. Call it a soul merge token.

    I can see my ranger main picking rogue, bard, beast, and enchanter. Mage and necro are going to be popular options.

    Not sure why you think they would suddenly allow for all races to be all classes and not include that in any of the announcements as that would be a big feature.

    If they did they would make alot of money. Knowing them they probably make it way to expensive though.

    My main account sadly only has a level 107 as the highest alt, however my other accounts would love this. No more having to do catch up during the boring times.

    What we know :
    • Character names are kept
    • Flags are kept
    • Equipment / bags content ? / bank are shared
    • Personas are to be leveled separately (strongly supposed)
    What we do not know :
    • How (and whether) non standard class / race combinations will be done
    • AAs ? As usual, I'd say that if it's not written on the box (the teaser), it's not inside.
    What I think :

    • The buff problem will probably be solved by debuffing on switching between personas. Which will interfere with "permanent" buffs, potions of adventure, and lessons ! (Murphy's law). People can start crying for paid potions.
    • As flags will be shared, the other personas can no longer get exp from quests. As most of the exp is currently from there, the devs will have to put exp back on kills, or else there will be no option to level a persona than overseer.
    • Unique items obtained from quests (thinking about Luminous Restless Ice, which expires at level 120) has to be duplicated once per persona. Another can of worms. Think about Artisan's Prize, Rallos Zek's earring will probably be used for at least one more year, the type 18/19 slots being better than the HP/Mana/AC for now.
    • Equipment. Another can of worms. People will hog 2/3 and more items for single toons to equip several personas, a greed problem for raiding guilds. Tip : if you haven't trashed "old" raid loot for tribute, DON'T ! Non-visible items, trinkets and so are the most likely to be either kept between personas (the type 3 slots will be another problem), or reused when replaced.
