Albion has it EQ should have it too a Phone app to play.

I've been disabled do to a car accident and unable to play EQ. I have been playing Albion because it has a phone interface now.

Since they released it Albion has had to expand its servers do to overcrowding twice.

I'm thinking getting in now would do EQ good and enable me to be able to play again. (Selfish Reasons)

I wish that EQ, and games in general, were able to accommodate people with disabilities. For instance, I have parkinsonism (like Parkinson's, but the cause is from a different source). This makes it hard for me to play for long periods of time like in the past, and hard to stay up in the parse, especially on fights with lots of target swapping (yes, I have a mash key set up for this, but it still depends on how fast I can mash it). I have set up key binds as well for my burn, but again, slow reflexes mean that I don't get them off as fast as the other rogues. It has been suggested to me to use the stuff that shall not be named, but 1) I don't want my account that I have had since 1999 hit, and 2) it would take away the fun I have with manually running my toon. I don't play FPS games anymore because of this disability, but have turned to turn-based games, like BG3. So, for now, I will keep enjoying EQ as best I can, and for as long as I can, but eventually even that will have to end. So, I don't view your wanting something to accommodate you as being selfish. Unfortunately, it is the world we live in (for now).

App to do what? They will not be porting EQ to a phone anytime soon, get that out of your head.

EQ would be completely unplayable on a phone.

.No way you can get a phone app that handle all the different aa/spells/disc we use. They would have to do 1 of 2 things.

1st dum down the whole game so its just one big app for everyone.

2nd. limit the app to just attack and basic spell casting.

I think the point that you all are missing is not that the game should be played on a phone (even though the OP mentioned it), but that the game, and games in general, should be more accessible by those with disabilities. It isn't a matter of "dumbing" the games down, and more of providing options for play. I personally can't play games on my phone as I can barely send text messages. However, I do also understand the limitations that EQ has to operate with, as probably most games out there. It is just a matter of an "it would be nice to have" dream.

As someone who has health issues, I can sympathize with the idea that EQ should have more accessibility options in its design. I am curious what a phone interface is going to do for anyone who cannot use a keyboard and mouse, based upon just how EQ works.

Personally, I have issues with mouse control, especially when at the computer for any real length of time. I've designed my gameplay around using the keyboard as much as I can, even if I play "slower" than others. The 'raid like' non-stop action in missions has really become difficult some days to accomplish (go look at TBL for missions except Smoke where for the most part there are nice stopping points/gaps in the scripts so that I don't have to spend 20+ minutes non-stop). But I do what I can and simply don't start when I cannot.

I've wanted a checkbox for dialog boxes for years now where I can use the keyboard to say Y(es) or N(o) (or whatever) for pop up windows. I've wanted consistent commands to interact with objects/npcs ('u' doesn't always work for me in places). Others have suggested additional things to have alternate ways of interacting in the world, without changing the experience ... or making shortcuts to what folks who have no limitations can do.

It's probably going to take someone with limitations (or someone close to with them) in order to shine a light on these types of concerns. Something I don't wish on anyone ... but honestly, it's almost always the way anything gets done about accessibility these days (over what is government mandated).

Nah, maybe just increasing font sizes further for it's aging population though. Or using Microsoft's Clippy to reminder boomers in raid to hit their burns and cooldowns. I'd support that

I do this too, though just because I find it more efficient and enjoyable. I'm constantly finding things that I wish there was a keyboard command to do. Just off the top of my head:

    • Any dialogue box (yes/no, new version of zone/old version, etc)
    • Turn off an aura
    • Remove a buff (can be simulated by blocking and then unblocking)
    • Accept a trade
    • Press the Give button on pet trade windows

The problem is that those things are generally not realistic to be implemented when the game was not designed with them in mind and before such adaptations were even possible as an option. There have been a number of accessibility options added over the years, but they take time to implement without as others have stated "dumbing down the game." By "dumbing down the game" what is meant is that the actions to play the game would need to be simplified to a point where it is not at all the same game or playstyle.

There is always going to be someone for which the accessibility options are not sufficient. For example, how would you make the game accessible to someone who was disabled to the point that Stephen Hawking was without making the game far too simple for your average person.

People play EQ with controllers and steamdecks, so it stands to reason you could play with an Xbox Adaptive Controller. You may need to stick to TLPs where there are fewer actions to take.

    Smartphone is like $1200.

How much you pay for laptop?

Also, you be surprised how good people with using phone. Some people prefer smartphone over a laptop.

I don't disagree with you, hence my saying "it would be nice to have" dream. EQ has implemented things such as key binds and made it so that everything on your key bind will fire off at the same time, which has helped me out a lot. As for people who have suggested the use of controllers or steam deck (not specifically to me), I can't use them because I lack fine motor control with my fingers. There will come a time when I will have to hang up my hat on playing EQ, which will be a sad day indeed. But I am a realist and understand that there are limitations to making the game (and games in general) accessible to all. I won't lie, however, and say that this doesn't frustrate me knowing what is down the road as far as not being able to enjoy something I have enjoyed most of my life, and that is digital gaming, which I started on a Commodor 64.

While accessability is nice, to make a game accessible means heavy simplification. There are a million games out there that have 5 buttons, that doesn't mean eq should too.
  15. Sissruukk Rogue One

With the implementation of key binds, I have simplified EQ as much as possible. My burn is on three buttons, and not a whole lot more is on other buttons. I do still use the mouse to hit certain discs/other stuff (clicky hotbuttons, etc.), but it has been simplified for me to where I can play the game while maintaining some reasonable skill right now. I still enjoy the challenge of playing EQ, and will push myself hard to keep enjoying it. If I wanted a 5 button game, I'd go play D IV or something like that, but I have no interest in over-simplified games. Nor am I calling for an oversimplification of games. If I wanted to oversimplify it, I'd revert to unmentioned stuff to automate so I'd have to do nothing but sit back and watch. But, I refuse to do that, because it would take away the enjoyment of interacting with the game.

I hope this comes across the right way…

I wasn’t suggesting a steam deck or regular controller. I mentioned those to demonstrate that EQ can be playable with limited buttons / motion control, and that the software will work with EQ.

I was suggesting the Xbox Adaptive Controller, linked below. It is specifically designed for people with limited use of their hands and is customizable to an individual’s specific needs. Maybe it would work for you, maybe not, but goal here is to ensure you know it exists.

Sadly, one of the issues in making the game more accessible such as having everything addressable via / commands or other non-mouse movements is how that could also be used to make automating the game easier.

I can barely operate a virtual keyboard on mobile devices, I can't imagine trying to play EQ with all the buttons it has you need to play it. Still, I hope that you can find a solution that works with you!

I think that concern is very valid for the developers. Especially when first creating a game.

I also think the number of botting groups in the game having no issues with automated game play makes it far less relevant today. I'm not sure how much easier the game can be when I get hit with multiple groups selling whatever current raid loot you want on all Live servers.

Would you want it even easier for them to automate?
