As an IT Infrastructure specialist of 30 years, thank you for the explanation. I've seen this in business operations time and time again so you have my sympathy and support. Thank your infrastructure and apps teams from this player that feels their pain and fight the good fight. Sometimes breaking the thing identifies the other things to be fixed in an endless cycle. Keeps us employed and challenged.

    Thank you. Seriously.

The fact they broke the spellgem window preventing meditating and casting all together requiring a manual text file edit.... it's items like these where i don't even want to invest time in another character because the experience will be utterly frustrating dealing with patch-worked mechanics designed for a game which well exceeded its life expectancy. The idea of closing down EQ or completely rebuilding it with EQ/EQ2 elements seem to be the only better ways forward than continuing hashing out nonsense built back in the 2000s even current day devs cannot unravel

How did they break the spell gem window?

The only reason I didn't revolt when the removed Shadowrest is that I had already replaced my corpse-bank with my house-bank ;)

While I do agree the lagged instances are borderline unplayable, it's been going on for much longer then the 64 bit upgrade. There are posts on this very board going back at least 2-3years. It has possibly gotten worse, but it's been there for a long time.

Any instance with heavy lagged mechanics, which is about half these days, my DPS drops by an average of ~400k DPS sustained. It's been happening for quite awhile.

As a pet class, my pet will literally do 50k DPS or less in these instances, which is less then 20% of its normal DPS. Coupled with the melee and spell lag, it accounts for the huge DPS drop.

The game is simply broken when the instances are functioning like this, but I think Daybreak knows this and hopefully they are doing everything in their power to find a solution.

Their solution appears to be reducing server load by getting fewer people to actually play the game. It's working too.

Will the last gnome standing please turn off the lights?

Don't you mean the last TWO gnomes standing? Because one of them is gonna have to stand on the other's shoulders to reach the light switch.
Svann2, Nennius and Metanis like this.

You're exaggerating the "devs cannot unreavel" business. And your solution will *neeeever happen* because its preposterous. If they were going to rebuild the game from scratch, which they wont but if they did which they wont [adnauseum], but if they did (wihch they wont) why would they build it on also old but just not as old but definitely old toolsets and engines. They'd likely go to Unreal, just as an example, or something like that. Fresh start.

But let's face it, EQ rules as is and they aren't changing something where nostalgia is 85% of the draw and keep.

This is constructive; this is good. Concerning the "elements" use, it was meant not as using the existing engines but to incorporate the features people use into the new engine. The idea behind remaking the game is to lessen the text-based burden for IOPS especially for CPU computation. My point wasn't clear from the earlier post.

Im thinking griklor in tov, conflagration generals in TBL, crypt robbers in RoS, Queen Velazul in EOK was incredible lag, high bokon in TBM. Thats at least 6 years. I cant say what happened before that.
