There were already threads about this, and I'm pretty sure a dev confirmed that is indeed how it's supposed to work.
Not exactly, there was originally a problem where the combine would just DNC, but the fix to the original problem was insufficiently tested. The fix to that is deferred until after the holidays since it technically works if you're aware of the caveats.
