A couple questions about melee skills - aquiring the skill, getting nice icon

so playing melee class and a bit confused about how melee skills (kick, taunt, bash, others...):

Q1: How are they aquired? Do these just automatically get learned? (no need to buy them)?

Q2: Nice icons versus a hot button with the word 'kick' or 'bash' on it. Melee skills don't seem to have nice icons the way spells do. Is there a way to get a nice icon for each melee skill?

The basic ones should be automatically learned now I believe and show up in your combat abilities window, you used to have to train them at a guildmaster. As you level up you will gain access to tomes which are like spells. Those you have to buy from a Melee Tomes vendor depending upon the expansion or in plane of knowledge. As for icons, if you put one of those hotbuttons on a hot bar just hold down right click on it and there are some icon options to change the image

Not only do the large races get Slam, but Slam works even with no shield and works the same as Bash, only difference is that for magic-only mobs you need magic shoulders instead of a magic shield (btw, Slam uses the Bash skill, there is no seperate 'slam' skill)
