FTE a heaping pile of ....

It's weird that they pushed this to test with no internal testing at all. No dev server? This is a seemingly basic step for rolling out anything.

Way to try and spin my words!

I said " Some of us do not desire to have FTE "Fixed" but instead want it removed from the ruleset alltogether, I myself am not going to assist DBG in fixing a problem they themselves created nor will I am required to provide them with any of the data that I gathered from my testing. "

I want it removed from this ruleset, because as proven it has shown to be a colossal disaster based on 1 day of testing.
If they choose to implement it down the road after extensive testing has been done and all of the bugs are fixed, I will be all for it.

I pay to play the game, not test it.
If I did, I would be playing Pantheon during each testing phase.

I do software testing for a living on routers, not games. You can test things internally in every way you think of before release and there will always be combinations you didn't consider and something significant might fail in a way that can only be hit in a non-test environment.

I am sure there was internal testing on this feature, but it was likely all positive testing in the known ways it should work and on a much more limited server and not in every possible combination of a very complex 'spaghetti code' system of variations of agro. This is EXACTLY why it needed to be put on to Test (as all changes should be) before moving it to Live. Even the Test server is a different environment than the Live servers which is why there are some things which work correctly on Test and then fail going to Live.

(As an aside, I know DB pays its developers well by industry standards, but the testers are paid absolute peanuts with many newer testers thinking it should be 'fun' to test games. Testing is all about lots and lots and lots and lots of repetition often in a set or limited environment which can be exceptionally tedious after a while. There is also a heavy turn-over in games testing which actually, in my opinion, leads to sloppier test methodology. AND in any development, a tester can only file an issue. The product/project managers and other management decide what will actually be fixed then, pushed to a later release, or ignored completely. Something a tester thinks is an important to fix issue might be deemed 'no customer will ever hit this" and closed by management only to have customers hit it as soon as it goes live in any way.)

Why risk screwing up their pristine, no-lag internal server when there's a perfectly good Test server just sitting there waiting to be set on fire?

It happens with aging companies and with ageing companies bought by other companies.

The talent leaves and with them the knowledge. The new hires and whats remains keeps the power on but does not know the code or even the complex mechanics.

Maybe in a year or two they can hire some AI to analyze the code and figure things out for them.

Im gonna go back to playing with bard =D

Yeah, this is some extreme nonsense. It took less than 20 minutes for gaping, and extremely obvious bugs/holes to be found. If their qa/devs are only doing happy path testing then they are inept at their job.

It actually blows my mind that they decided to put this on test. They essentially confirmed the fears of people that actually understand how the game works and who that knew this was nearly impossible to properly implement.

Now the cat is out of the bag and even the most ardent wait and see crowd are noping out. Any feedback they recieve will most likely not even be dealt with until the june patch. Fixing any bugs they werent aware of in 5 business days isnt going to happen. I assume this will be the last time a feature that they are banking on turning a profit off of ever sees the test server again.

This will be a legendary server, in a notorious and decidedly humorous way.

Everything is going to be fine, they have two weeks. Two weeks!

The FTE debacle on test and the 2 weeks announcement remind me of a classic film, The Money Pit. I imagine someone doing the laugh after the bathtub falls as they figure out how aggro "works".

It's often not the choice of the qa/devs. For all you know, there might be a pile of internal bug reports and the product/project manager still wanted it pushed to Test. Don't blame those at the bottom end for the decisions of management.

There is no way FTE will be fixed and polished in 2 weeks, there are too many glaring problems with the way the system is interacting with original EQ code. If DPG really wants this to be a new way to experience EQ they need to postpone FTE until it is more polished because as it is right now it will only turn off even more people to the idea. If you think otherwise I welcome you to log onto test and see for your self exactly how the Oakwynd launch will be.

If them still want to sell new bags and see new players this year - need to do something with Oakwynd asap.

I think best what they can do its add free-trade instead of FTE (maybe make all free-tradable items attunable if them dont want too big market overflow with items) + decrease spawn rates by 20-25%
and it will be very popular server i sure, even if make it slow exp for selling more potions!

Wish them got good marketing specialist :)

it could actually be more like 1 week that they have unless they go into emergency mode, since the only patch prior to oakwynd launch is scheduled for 5/17-5/18 according to the ingame calendar

date and time of patches are a best estimate and may vary, of course
  13. Yinla Ye Ol' Dragon

This is a feature for just 1 server, so they should be able to patch that with what is needed without taking the other servers down. But all servers need to be down for updating the calender etc and anything else that effects all servers.
  14. Yinla Ye Ol' Dragon

FTE is far worse than any of us imagined. I don't think any of us predicted how heal, low HP and sit agro with players not in group would pull agro or how much it would break pets.

I don't think I've seen anyone try this in raid format yet, what happens if someone dies and goes back to bind? Can they still attack when they come back? If somesone LDs and gets re-added to the raid can they attack? All we have seen is the mess they have made of the group game.

This isn't the EQ I've been playing for the last 22 years.

It was not supposed to be the same broken eq , you have played for the last 22 years. This is why , it is on test to find and fix the issues presented. I think it will take a few patches , but at the end it will be polished.

I don't know what your experience with gaming is but game devs that are serious about testing something don't put it out two weeks before it's due to be released in the state that FTE is in right now... at least competent ones don't... I'm not sure what the strategy behind proving every naysayer right was, but if they had thought to win any one over they would have done some basic testing to see if the mechanic even worked in a basic function; which clearly they did not, as people were able to break it in 2 minutes flat.

Time will tell and we will see if they can get it into a working state.
  18. Dalyrina Elder

Thats not how they do things, as anyone from mischief can assure you of.
  19. MyShadower All-natural Intelligence

C'mon, let's be honest. Wasn't it broken before any player touched it if mobs were locking to each other from buffing? Although, one could argue, mobs locked to each other would alleviate training on some level.
