hello everyone, according to Daybreak server status, Mischief seems like the most populated TLP, therefore the best to start some new characters, is that accurate? I am aware that new TLPs will be released in may but i'd like to play right now.

thanks for your answers and good day

I usually check Twitch for how popular a server is. I see a lot of P99s. EQ servers I see Yelinak, Yelinak is still popular but may be for time being, there is new TLPs coming out in a few months, so the server you choose may drop in population by time you get invested in it.

Mischief is currently in TSS, which is a great starting spot if you are looking to experience the mid and later era's of EQ. TSS introduces new low lvl zones, race, catch up armor called defiant. So while the low level population isn't thriving, there are people out their lvling alts and lowbies more often due to it being TSS.

They also have a really unique ruleset, which if you like the idea of free-trade, bonus loot, random loot, it is not too late to jump in!

Mischief is by far the most populated TLP at this point. Start playing, and if you want to start the whole "I love GUK" experience again, move to new TLP in may, maybe make a few krono on the way :)

Mischief has 22 raiding guilds in TSS. That is unheard of for a TLP and speaks highly to it's staying power. That being said, DPG could release a new Mischief ruleset serve in May and the population would suffer the same effects that other servers suffer when duplicate, but newer servers are released. Yelinak is more likely to suffer that fate though. I don't see DPG wanting to mess with the population of a server that is doing so well.

Mischief will be the most popular and most likely to last the longest. If you are patient, just wait a couple months and join on the new TLP when it opens up for tons of groupage. Until server ruleset and server popularity is known, no guarantee how long the server will last.

Be wary of Yelinak, Thornblade, and even Aradune...but Yelinak especially. Yelinak will likely see a massive drop in players when the new server opens.

Want to know why we even need to have TLP's?

To experience the game before The Plane of Knowledge (and its portals). And that's about it.

Years ago, my heart sank when I saw the first portals pop up all over the main zones. I saw the writing on the wall.

I remember back in the day, when POK first came into being, the rest of Norrath was suddenly dead. Overland travel dried up. No one was hanging out in the Tunnels of Ro to sell stuff. Emergent game play died off quite a bit. EQ became a lobby game of sorts. Other games make this same mistake, have some central hub where everyone hangs out and the rest of the world is barren.

So, TLP's are our way to get back that pre-POK feeling. That was the true magic era of EQ. All the other expacs are just fine because they're meant for higher levels, but the POK teleporting kills the game world.

My most memorable EQ experience (and this is from 20 years ago). My 8th level Barbarian wanted to travel to Freeport. A high level female druid got her high level ranger buddy to escort me. What an adventure it was traveling cross-country, trying to dodge mobs and not get lost in Kithicor before the sun went down (and that happened!). Great adventure that would NOT have been possible had I some stupid portal to click on for insta-travel.

You’d have to be pretty casual to start on a new TLP without a claim available for a Token of the Magus, though. There’s going to be portals from day one even with a Classic start.

For sure Yelinak, those other servers just a ton of boxes.
If theres a lot of PL'ers on a server that means a lot of actual players not boxes are on it, because boxes don't need PL'ers so PL'ers don't bother on those servers.

    But yeah check it out

Let the most popular server speak for itself.
You want most populated by real people or by boxes, that should be a question too.

Absolutely incorrect. I 3+ box and pay for PLs almost every single AA/level increase expac, as do some of my 6 boxer friends. Leveling sucks and is boring and dumb.
