I use all of them and some others. I see no ads though as I use browser extensions like UBlock origin and Ghostery. The webs I support I donate to rather than support ads. (and ad served malware, not the website's content, but ad delivery services are notoriously bad at security)

The main issue with EQ webs is the proprietors age out over the years. Many class and archetype based EQ webs have passed away over the years.

Darkpaw <could> buy out Allakhazam's EQ content, but then have to devote staff to update it near daily. If Zam or EQ resource ended EQ would have....issues. I think Darkpaw might could get ahead of that.

It's kinda weird to HAVE to go to 3rd party websites to download maps from unaffiliated strangers as well. It would be like WoW requiring downloading actual game content from places like Noxic, etc.

I totally support fan based, but would like to see EQ Wiki <official> where devs actually post correct as opposed to 3rd party guess quest steps and so on.

Don't forget EQ Traders. Without them I would be unable to do tradeskills. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Of the ones you link, only GW2's is official, and the game was built specifically with wiki integration in mind after the popularity of the GW1 wiki (you can use /wiki in game to open up a wiki page for any search term(s), and it works with item links as well), which is why they have the wiki of gold project.

The rest of those are fan created (The ESO wiki as a repository for Elder Scrolls information predates MMO's, its just been migrated a couple times) and run. EQ has similar.

EQ has a wiki but it is not official and outdated:

Basically Allakhazam (ZAM) is the more of less official wiki since 1999. The original creator was from Las Vegas. I always wondered if it does or did get run by SOE/DBG or receiving money from them.

If the people at Zam were ever compensated or loosely affiliated, I imagine that stopped in 2006 when IGE evolved into what it did and bought everything.

That said, when Sony was at the helm, they had some amazingly strange bedfellows / hush-hush dealings with certain people/groups, so its not out of the realm of possibility.

There is another unofficial EQ wiki, but not outdated:

Everyone is encouraged to add information to it.

I always use Alla and pay the sub, its worth it to me. I use EQ trader if forced to , just something about their layout that makes it not so easy to read. They could start by adding a few colors to that 2 tone website. Recipes on Alla are easier to follow to me.

I guess its boils down to which one you use. Magelo never made any sense to me but people rave about it.

I think they could use some UI help. One thing, I find the search bar is too small and there is no option to search for exactly what you put in (example: if you enter 'diamond' you get 500 things which include the word diamond, you can't just get one 'diamond').

Magelo can be very useful for some things. Unfortunately, they have recently started requiring you to login to see stuff.
