Wondering why EQ doesn't have a wiki or an updated wiki. Allah site its nice and all but can be very slow and you know buggy as in old old code related and many ads. Sure I could pay up. But, these newer games, I don't gotta pay up, this stuff is given free. WoW and EQ they have a couple fan made wikis too. But as you can see, the newer games they use that wiki format, its nice, doesn't feel sluggish, its free, ads don't seem to be invading and secretly attacking my computer. I know GW2 they have a project called wiki of gold, you get gold for updating the wiki, any reason why EQ doesn't do this. Are they related to allah somehow? I kind of like fan made stuff but usually have ads and I don't enjoy sites with ads, well many ads where the ads seem invading. Looking at some of the fan made wikis, almars guide I don't like, feels old and ads lots of them fanra seems legit (after looking further it seems like a reference website, click on quest and it sends me to site with actual info) eqresources is kinda nice just looking at it now, has a dropdown find item in expansion, shows me the item, stats and picture, can click on the named that drops it, says what zone they are in, has a picture of them and a location marker on the map. (i think i might be using this more) noticed a couple of ads, and doesn't seem to have tradeskills could take a while memorize how to navigate the site too. Well just curious why EQ doesn't have wiki page, while EQ company trying to push support for it. Is it like a hidden bond, thanks to allah for sticking with you guys so keep using it type of thing? EQtraders is same way, sometimes that site is really bug or just goes down. Seems to be some kind of connection or agreements. Use Allah, EQtraders won't show item drops or where in they drop, so user has to use allah. like this https://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=70470 Wikis on modern day MMORPGS, tradeskills npcs, all of that is in one resource, and smooth, modern design, all those modern MMOS use the same design so upcoming crowd of gamers they know how to navigate and get around they are already familiar with that resource website design. Next you want them to make their own maps. They....... don't...... have..... time.... or.... resources..... They are barely getting stuff done in the game. And they are advertising in game for employees...how desperate is that? I would rather they concentrate on keeping the game going than to rewrite the bibles. Magelo is also pretty good for which mobs drop what and the percentages of the likelihood of the drop
If your talking about my post...wow you sure jumped the shark on that one. I said nothing about the game failing. Or that the ad was about it failing or evidence of it failing. Perhaps that is where your mind is at.That the game is failing. I don't think its failing at all. What I said was they have enough to do already without adding more stuff that can already be found and it looks like they are needing to hire even more to do what they already do to keep it up with what they do do. Figure that one out
They did partner with one of the wiki places like 10 years ago, but they set up players to admin it and no one wants to do the kind of work for free that it takes to actually make guides for content, especially since there are at least 2 major guide sites + a few for TLP specific ones that cover everything anyway
Desperate for help. Trying to make a point here that there are not enough employees as it is and how would they possibly be able to man a project of this kind. This is a supporting sentence: And they are advertising in game for employees...how desperate is that? And the sentence it is supporting is: They....... don't...... have..... time.... or.... resources..... They are barely getting stuff done in the game. I have no idea why you continue to think you know what I am saying when it obvious you don't. Could just give a krono. I think the other games, they don't make the content for the wiki, its player runned. But they give rewards to people who give their ideas for content and if its good where it gets used they get gold/plat. Maybe a krono if thats good. isn't that how allakhazam works, people make the content for it. Just there there is a paywall if you want better. But its pretty clunky its same design from 20 years ago. It's not just that site too, EQtraders at times can be clunky, same reason its been 20 years. Those wiki pages I mentioned, GW2, ESO, FFXIV I believe they are about 10 year old in design wise. Maybe in a couple years from now there will be some other designs that all the new/modern games will be using as the wiki/strategy guide page. But again, krono goes a long way. Giving people something in return goes a long way. Here's more on that. I had visited some other games that had official wikis and was very impressed. It's a very nice way to get new (also veteran ones but getting new players is always a top priority) players what they need to get started and figure out all the complex stuff. So, I thought EQ should get one. In addition to giving players a place to start, without them having to find fan websites, it can also contain official information from the developers. Every so often developers post on these forums some backend information about how EQ works. If I think it is valuable, I copy it to my wiki so it can be discovered by everyone. At the SOE Live 2012, I got to talk to some SOE people. There they announced they would set up a wiki. Unfortunately, they did so by setting it up with Wikia. Here's what I reported after the SOE Live in my blog SOE Live 2012 - After Action Report (you can also read SOE Live 2012 - After Action Report: Addendum if you are interested). And, yes, that wiki exists still at https://everquest.fandom.com/wiki/EverQuest_Wiki (I think Wikia changed their name to Fandom). I'm actually a moderator (or was, I haven't checked in ages) and could moderate content there. However, I gave up on it long ago. If you want, you can create an account there and add content. Although I recommend you do so at my wiki instead, as it's obvious that no one goes to the fandom site since it still has Empires of Kunark on the front page... I also recommended (and still do) that SOE/Daybreak have an internal wiki. Or some better way to document things. Because the staff there changes over the years and it sure seems that sometimes lessons learned are forgotten.
Oh, it seems I still am an admin at the Fandom wiki. I just changed the site background color for the Light theme, as it was black, and so is the text there, so you couldn't even read it the top menu. I changed the color to match the yellow/gold of the EverQuest logo. But, yeah, I wouldn't bother with it.
Zam used to have paid people working on it, that took player data and put it on guides, now I'm not sure if they do (pay) or its full volunteer while the main Zam company makes all the Ad/Premium revenue for themselves I know for their WoW site though they do pay freelancers per Article or like Class guide and etc, and some other guide places do this too, that is for bigger games that can afford it, the lesser pop game you go down the less viable it becomes though
Nothing stopping anyone who wants to from leasing some cheapo web hosting, installing mediawiki or some other wiki framework, then going to town inputting info. It really doesn't take any technical skills. That's a lot of unpaid labor though and I wouldn't expect much help until the thing is already established. Probably hasn't been much interest in a thorough, well maintained, centralized wiki since the existing tools get the job done, even if they're not ideal.
The fact their career recruitment adverts don't offer remote work. THAT can be, just maybe, a detriment against them. If they still require staff on site, that too offers a glimpse of their limitations. Open that up.
Building wiki pages can be a very time consuming process if you are covering a broad range of content. Even doing a write up for one quest can take quite a bit of time if you want to include all info. With as many expansions as Everquest has, it would take someone working a full time job a very long time to create everything for a wiki site and be factual. Part time, I have built of ton of wiki pages for Allakhazam, however other site members, volunteer content admins and past company employees of ZAM have built a ton more than me. I couldn't imagine one person trying to do that by themselves in a short amount of time.
I prefer Magelo for most things but now it seems to be wanting a user ID to get into it so will have to sort thru my old paperwork and find it
Yea, basically remote in the states they operate in atm, maybe it will expand in the future, but pre-pandemic it was their main california offices only pretty much for EQ so it has expanded since
