The Phinigel-Miragul-Vox server merge is slated for 7/20/22 on the same day as Kunark launches on Yelinak. Is it safe to say the new release date of Kunark is Thursday, July 21st now? Or do should the Yelinak community expect something different? Getting the information from https://www.everquest.com/news/eq-phinigel-miragul-vox-merge and hoping to get an update on realistic timelines.
If the response is anything like Aradune/Rizlona got, DBG will just threaten to push your expansion release back a week.
The expansion should either go live at its ended time if servers get up early enough, or whenever they do come up which could be at any point in the late overnight or early morning hours. Of course the last time they had to adjust expansion launch times they completely forgot and they didnt go live as intended and we all had to sit around and wait. So who knows.
Why do they do these all-day downtime server merges on the same day that new expansions unlock? It's not exactly the first time, it happens pretty regularly. It seems like it would be very easy to find a day to do the merge where it isn't as inconvenient for another server. Like, you know, the day before an expansion unlocks. There aren't so many servers that a new expansion unlocks on one of them every bloody day, so why do they not just pick a day where no server is having a new content release?
The 3rd Wednesday of each month is their standard day of scheduled downtime. Expansions also release on Wednesdays so there comes a time where there is overlap. They don't just do things at a whim. There is standardization occurring, whether you like it or not. We don't know their operations policies, nor should we. However, there is clearly some policy that drives this and they try not to deviate.
Isn't that a quote from 12 Monkeys? edit: you know, the part where Brad Pitt's character is explaining what cartoons are for, or something, early on in the film.

In your post you say 4 AM downtime, 24 hour patch, and then 4 PM possible uptime. Does that mean a 36 hour patch?
Feel like a jerk saying this, but with today's technology this is ridiculous. It shouldn't take half this long.
They are doing more than flipping the switch for Kunark. This is maintenance day, ALL the maintenance. Flipping the switch for Kunark probably takes up all of about 10 minutes of all the maintenance they are doing.
How do you arrive at the from what i said. I didn't say one day without food is insignificant. food is essential to life. MMOs are not essential to life - therefore insignificant in terms of missing a single day. Find a more logical way to pick a fight.
