[Aradune/Rizlona] TSS Launch Conflicts with 24h Downtime

Good point. I was joking but I might just set it up lol. Would be funny as hell to see the look on their faces when staples drops off 6 big white board calendars and a big box of expo markers. Plus paper calendars for the next 5 years so they know how to fill them out properly!

    6 of these
    6 of these
and 1 of these to get them started
    $1,472.93 plus shipping so far

Anything else I'm missing before I get a quote?
  2. jeskola pheerie

The problem is not lack of calendars, it's lack of giving a damn about the players' schedules. They have their own set schedule and they couldn't give a * less if it interferes with ours.

This still needs to be addressed. At the very least someone from Darkpaw should have the decency to make a post on this thread and tell those of use who play on Aradune that we can get bent.

You can probably determine this from the lack of response. For those of us still playing on Phinigel we had our merge ninja set back an entire month. They locked transfers to our server as soon as the free transfers opened in May. My guild has several applicants that cannot join us until the merge because of this. Aradune and Rizlona can handle waiting one day. We've had to wait an entire extra month and they didn't even give us a post for that. They just stealth edited the old announcement...
  5. Ishbu Augur

Wait, so because a bad thing happened on a completely unrelated server, you want bad things to happen to other servers? Pathetic.

Communication or some sort of decision would not affect you in the slightest.
  6. Szinga New Member

How is this unrelated? What he's asking for is a delay of the phinigel merge. It is 100% relevant.

Because it means he realizes he isn't the center of the universe.

So gross...that's 2 xpacs in a row that they've messed up release for Aradune now. Is this going to be an every xpac thing now?
  9. Szinga New Member

For the record. Nobody on Phinigel wanted the merge to be delayed either and we were never given a reason or even a proper announcement of the delay. Just a sneaky edit of the original post....

Actually, we at OGC been waiting for quite some time to be merged into Vox with all the backend stuff being taken over. We've already been pushed back a month and more, inbound transfers have been locked since last patch preventing people from transferring to us.

We fully anticipate the merge to happen on the scheduled date, and I'm sure the content will be nice and ready for you all as soon as the servers come back up.

The Phinigel -> Vox and Miragul -> Vox server merges were delayed due to numerous bad data issues that were found during testing. All of the bad data needed to be cleaned up before a merge could be performed (in our test area, a snapshot/copy of the live DBs). The bad data was created due to numerous oddities throughout the years having to do with bad characters, and a large portion of it was created during the 2020 merge, but not uncovered until now, because we didn't use any of the servers from the 2020 merge again until now (Vox).

Additionally, the Overseer merge SQL had a lot of edge cases that were not previously handled. This is because the test data from the Selo -> Povar merge last year did not have as much pre-existing Overseer data as there is now. Cases where one account had the same type of Overseer data on the same DB as they had on another server, with or without the same quest / agent / etc were the type of issues delaying testing. There are 9 character DB tables associated with the Overseer system, which makes it time consuming to make changes to merge SQL (and test), especially because not all of the tables save the same way. For example, all your Overseer experience is on the same DB, but your agents are stored across all the DBs. As a comparison, the real estate system (the other largest system in a server merge) has 6 tables, and all 6 of them save in the same style unlike Overseer.

Additional time was needed due to testing two merges and all the associated nuances with that.

More comments on server merges here from last year.

Last year's merge/patch was 9.5 hours of total downtime, however, things went smoothly and we only did one merge.

Server merges are not worth taking risks over and that is the primary reason this one was delayed. It's not something taken lightly, or intended to be disruptive of expansion launches or other plans that players have around patch days.

None of that answered why you couldn't unlock the expansion before the merge
  13. jeskola pheerie

Exactly, a long-winded post full of deflection and lacking an actual answer.

Are you asking why they are not scheduling two downtimes for this month, one for the patch and one for the merge or are you asking why they didn't change the launch schedule at the last minute?

The sense of entitlement in this thread is astounding. Niente has given you an explanation, which devs were under no obligation to do, and it turns out people don't want an explanation, they want it their way or else. This game is a business, their staff have assigned work hours, and they're going to do what they need to do and fit it as best they can into their schedule, not yours. If you don't like that, go play another game.

Kudos to him for taking the time to type a post, I guess.

Expansion launches on TLPs dont come with server downtime. You would know this if you played on one. Run away troll

If you think that was an explanation as to why Rizlona/Aradune/Yelinak have a 24 hour server downtime for their expansion launch, you need to learn to read.

He explained why the server mergers were pushed back. He said it was not intended to interfere with other planned launches for other servers, which it very much is. At no point has anyone of authority given an explanation as to why of all the days of the whole year it had to be moved to that very one and nothing can be done about the time of the expansion launches, something they have proven is possible as recently as the VERY LAST EXPANSION LAUNCH on these same servers.

In the entire history of the game, server merges have always been done on patch days. Anyone who has actually played the game should know this. When they determined they had to bump the merge, it was moved to the next patch day. If you want to raise an issue, it should be why they schedule TLP expansion launches on patch days, but they've been doing that for years as well, and the TSS unlock date has been known since server launch. You've had literally a couple of years to complain about the TSS unlock falling on a patch day, if you actually cared as much as you say.

Niente's post stated that the last merge (one server) took 9.5 hours. That was with no prior issues in testing. This time it's two servers, with prior problems in testing which were explained in detail in the post. The 24-hour estimate (and it is an estimate) is a reasonable number under the circumstances. When you can match the 30+ years of professional IT experience I have, I might actually listen to you try to argue that point.

The merge is not going to get bumped again just to satisfy your beef. Quite a few players, including me, have been patiently waiting for the merge. Attacking the server merge process was not the wisest strategy if all you wanted was to move the TSS unlock date. The players who claim they need to "plan for" the unlock to the nearest hour are a distinct minority on the two servers involved. So deal with it.

You are correct, they don't come with server downtime but they are announced well in advance of the expansion launch and as this thread proves people plan for it. The merge is happening at the same time as the patch which I assume is to combine the downtimes and if they don't do it with the patch they will also need another downtime for the merge. The other option would be changing when the expansion unlocks but people have already planned for the current unlock time and people would be upset about it.

Either you move the merge which will cause a second downtime and keep players on the servers longer or you move the expansion unlock which will ruin peoples plans for the unlock. At this point there are no good options.
