Hey folks, I'm a Necro on Mischief, and I was chatting with a guildie, who was also a pet class, about our pet focus items going into OoW, which unlocks soon on Mischief/Thornblade. I tried to find some information on what effects my current focus (Cherished Companion Shard, LDoN Aug that gives Ritual Summoning) would have on the 67 and 70 pets I'll be getting soon in OoW. I couldn't find any detailed info, so i decided to hop on my FV necro and do some testing on early era Pet Focus items. I hope this info can be useful to other pet class players on TLP's, and I'll think about posting it in some other places a player might search for info, like the Zam listing for the pet spells or the focus effects. Disclaimers: I didn't catch what could be considered "rank 1", because that is the pre-50 mage quest focus items that are elemental specific, and i was using a Necro to test. I also use max hit as a comparison measure between different pet spells and different focus items on the same pet. By max hit, i mean max NON-CRIT hit, as this is not changed by any AA that my post 100 necro had, and it's pretty easy to identify within 15-30 seconds of watching the pet attack. I fully understand that max hit is not a good overall indicator of a pets damage, there are many other factors, but it was the easiest to eyeball quickly, and gives some indication of the difference in damage potential. Couple notes, I know I was talking specifically about OoW coming up, but I decided to gather data all the way from the earliest classic pet focus to The Serpents Spine at 75. And while all of this is data from Necro pets only, I think it should give a good general sense of what kind of upgrades the other pet classes can expect. Like with my Cherished Companion Shard (rank 6), which raised my lvl 65 pet spell Child of Bertoxulus from pet lvl 60 to lvl 64, I assume it will give a similar level boost to the summoned Mage pets and Beastlord warders from the same PoP level 61-65 era.

This work has already been done up to level 70 and can be found on EQprogression. They even break out the HP of various summoned pets. https://www.eqprogression.com/pet-focus-items-guide-classic-omens-of-war/ https://www.eqprogression.com/magician-pet-stats/ https://www.eqprogression.com/necromancer-pet-stats/ https://www.eqprogression.com/beastlord-pet-stats/
Well nards, I guess I just needed to keep looking. I was actually using the first link as a reference for available focus items to test with, but never found any of the class specific pet stat lists until you shared them. Google must not like those links. At least my data from 71-75 is new, so it wasn't a complete waste of time. Relative to these links anyways, maybe someone somewhere has that list also.
This part is incorrect. No other spell focus work before Luclin (that I know of), but pet focus DO work from classic through Velious. I verified that on Mischief during the Kunark days, my Encyclopedia Necrothurgia was raising the damage of my 48 pet (but not his level), and was raising both the damage and level of my 59 pet.
Don't be discouraged! The links provided don't list backstab damage, which is information I've been looking for for a LONG time. THANK YOU for providing this!
Lots of supporting info on old class guides too ... still see people not giving jewelry and armor to pets but just weapons and haste ... Used to be mage 101 to fully deck out your pet and AAs play into their dps as well. https://www.eqmagetower.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2789
I feel like people greatly overestimate the benefit of pet weapons on summoned pets. Currently on Mangler at level 90 the procs from dual pet weapons adds less than 40dps. Don't have parses from all eras but it can only get lower as you go back. Not saying they're worthless exactly, but the way some people talk about them I think the expectations greatly exceed the reality.
It should be noted that the Gemstone of Darkflame from GoD raises mage pets 1 level but lowers their elemental spell to the point its a total dps downgrade and should not be used. It is fine to use it once you get a pet spell from OOW, but in era, its actually bad for mages.
