Must say that I find the change to mercenaries not good I liked to be able to have an apprentice max level aa and journey man min level and 1 max level journey There is now somthing that missing. Instead there should be novice(same as old first level), apprentice (first level j)., jour(max lvl jman)
You should be able to hire an Apprentice mercenary. If you have an open mercenary slot and cannot do so, you should report that as a bug (try to hire them after the servers are up).
Yep, confirmed. Free to play and can't hire an apprentice mercenary. I did a bug report, but I'm guessing it's just a goof because why even offer the apprentice mercs to the FTP people. Lol.

hey don't feel bad, now even paid players can't afford the journeyman mercs till end game. they are essentially useless, was one of the reasons i subbed. guess i'll drop back down to f2p, guess they didn't like my money
Why? You can pick either if you have a subscription. At level 100, with J5 merc, it's roughly 100pp every 15 mins, so 400pp/hr. That's like..2 gem drops in 1 hr to cover merc costs. The cost of a merc depends on 2 factors: Journeyman or Apprentice and Player level. At level 20: Apprentice T5 = 8g/15 mins (3p 2g/hr) Journeyman T5 = 6p 2g/15 mins (24p 8g/hr) Journeyman T1 = 2p 5g/15 mins (12p/hr) I don't see how that's breaking anyone's bank unless you maybe plan to leave them auto killing overnight. The only time I've ever had "issues" was not properly getting them into passive stance while AFKing in PoK/GH.. and burning a few thousand pp. Actively playing though? More than enough from a handful of vendor loot to cover the merc costs + have plat left over.
I couldn't understand why my Silver Account,110 Druid died to five lvl 78 mob today. I was like, wtf is up with my Merc? I had to log to leave my house. Now I see what happened. I guess all Silver means now is for general chat. Or did that change? Long story short. I Dismissed the Useless Merc. Ain't worth a Tinkers Cuss now.
must be nice to have a level 100. not there yet, between spells and real life i don't make enough to pay for a j5 thats why i had a j1 and was doing fine. its obvious they don't want my money so i'll give them what they want.
Whatever. All I know is the Merc I had yesterday would had taken em all out. The 1 today couldn't even kill 1 of the mob. Btw, thems were Summoning/stun mob. That's y my druid couldn't survive.

From my experience, there's a bit a a lull between 20-30 (non-PL) before the coin and cash drops start picking up again, but it's still there. By the time the mid 40's rolls around, you should be swimming in gems and spell drops that more than adequately cover any merc costs. Old Seb, HS, The Hole, just for starters there. GE drops loads of gems as well, once you get to that level. Various planes... I.. I just don't know where it is that pulling 200pp-500pp or more an hour isn't possible? Level 100 doesn't mean anything. You want enough plat to cover the lull times? buy a FREE BAG OF PLAT from the loyalty vendor and blow past those levels. A J5 tank merc will DESTROY everything up through level 60-65 and even carry you easily to 70-75 (I did up through lvl 70 with just J1 Tank merc on a different alt) You just want to complain. So be it. But this isn't a valid excuse.
I believe I read that all buffs were one time removed to reset them earlier. I wondered about that when I read this thread earlier. As far as costs are concerned. Starting 0 PP in tutorial, make a /open button and click barrels, loot bows, kill casters with staves. Kobolds drop minor coin. one platinum is enough to fill your inventory slots and bank slots witk Item: Mixing Bowl, 1 silver each. At Arias, say Ready to leave, go get bags, go to local afk pile and get temp, and other buffs, HoS/Chloroplast/Damage shield(s), camp back to tutorial, do the 27? quests, ding level 10 +/- . Sell, buy spells through 20 in PoK. buy 2x ech level rank of potions mana regen, haste, beast crack and regen ina bottle in CR go kill 35 Pumas in cave in CR, Kill maybe 45 bears in next cave, ding 18-20 ish The pearlescent puma and bear teeth will more than pay for spells and then some, usually enough for the 1st rank of defiant jewelry in PoK, maybe a couple slots of defiant gear in the bazaar. . At level 18 I usually move to treants in Blightfire and kill maybe 35 of them to level 26 and ornate defiant gear. Treants drop Simple and Rough defiant gear., Treant Bark and hearts as vendor trash. At 25-ish you can kill rats in north of Blightfire, and this is where it gets good. the other day I parsed 320 rat kills. I equipped 7 slots of rough defiant gear, bagged another 24 slots of varied rough defiants. I also collected 8 stacks of Section of Fine rat Pancreas. They sell for 14PP each + other vendor trash and not much other junk in the loot table. This buys all spells through 50+ and dings you 40+ I upgraded defiant jewelry to I think Simple and had 1500 PP left at level 40 with spells through 50 in bags and had bazaar bought I think 3 Flawed, 4 Intricate and 2 Elaborate pieces to equip (flawed) and prebank (intricate/elaborate) Aside from running around getting items and buffs and spells, total time level 10 to 40 was 5x casts of Druid DS Shield of Thorns / Legacy of Spike, Chloroplast, a merc cast temp from a rando 41 I met. I burn 30 minutes, slow and steady, no hurry, but non stop while killing, 30 minutes, timed to run out of mana and buffs at 30 min, take a break, come back a bit later , rinse and repeat. By this time, mobs drop gems. Mercs aren't very expensive really. I posted this because virtually none of these mobs dropped coin, I used an App V rogue merc. Buffs and regen were more than the damage I took from any 3 mobs. the difference? I didnt just kill the first 40 red cons I could and miss 300 trips to the loot table. I hit rats at 25, all were red cons, ding 27 and a couple were yellow. I left at level 40, they were light blue, still gave 3% a kill.
At high levels, it can be a good idea to buy bayle-marks in bulk when there is a sale. Especially since some of the later expansions are stingy with vendor-trash and coin drops.
I didn't want to make another post but I wanted to ask I've always used cleric mercs but now I am wondering, how good are the dps mercs and what ones do you recommend because I duo as a healer + tank/dps depending on whatever tickles my pleasure center but mostly its a shm+mnk duo.
right now,. per hour is over 100p for a journeyman merc. the apprentice can barely handle what i'm fighting now, i'm not gonna argue with ignorance.
