New casino for Luclin Part 2

Krono on EQ2 are purportedly going for 300 million platinum across all standard ruleset servers. It may be important to proactively get a plat sink on EQ1.

What if a new casino is introduced for Luclin Part 2 expansion that functions to distribute 4 upgraded TBL FF-type chase items, and cosmetics or fun clicks? The casino would be modeled after King Court Casino 1.0 in Shadowhaven. A player spends platinum to purchase casino tokens for a chance at minor prizes or the major prize of a casino ticket. (Casino tickets would also be ultra rare drops in Luclin Part 2 mission chests).

4 high stat chase items (upgrades to Fight Fire evolving items). Obtainable by:
    • Ultra rare casino tickets that drop in Luclin Part 2 mission chests.
    • Casino ticket won by extremely rare chance from platinum-bought casino tokens.
(A ticket immediately grants 1 of 4 chase items. NPC detects duplicates).

8-12 fun clicks or cosmetic items randomly distributed by playing for a ticket:

You seem to like paying money to gamble for items.

I can see a casino 2.0 being popular but I would not want to see it being such a huge plat-sink as perhaps Benito would like purely because I think that large plat sinks only enourage more automated bot groups.

Not sure what the price of a krono in EQ2 has to do with EQ1 anything. And a plat sink like a casino would only work if lots of people want to use the feature and nothing in the list seems to jump out at me as need to have. As for your suggestion of high stat chase items I don't see them ever putting in an item like that that can be won by chance.

It's a balance. If the rules are enforced, a casino helps to eat legitimately acquired platinum.

People will be automated farming no matter what as long as Krono, chase loot, and tradable cosmetics remain in the game. If we want to move away from farming, they need to stop the chase loot drops (Blood-Soaked, Ice Encrusted).

Edit: I also considered the idea of putting casino tickets as ultra rare mob or named drops but it would encourage the automation and monopolization of mobs. Restricting tickets to missions prevents that and gives missions replayability.

Casino tickets would also drop as ultra rares in mission chests. It would be the set at the same drop rate as TBL's Fight Fire.

What if we like getting nice loot? Gear = good.

How does that change the fact that they could get them with luck from the casino as well? I really don't think they will want players getting chase items with real power from the casino.

And for the majority of the player base that doesn't care about the casino or the items they can get it will have no impact.

The only way to make your idea worthwhile for them is to sell casino tickets in marketplace.

    Why the negativity and assumptions?

This is a suggestion. The devs and community manager can look into this idea: player interest, effects on the game, etc.
  12. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Assumptions? Like the assumption that this would have any impact on the amount of plat on a server? That it won't cause more plat to be farmed in order for people who want to do this to afford it? Or that devs would want to put top level gear on this at all (and that it won't become worthless as soon as the next expansion launches). You complain about me making assumptions but it seems to me that the idea has a bunch of assumptions that have to be true for it to have any impact on krono prices.

It has long been understood that casinos function as plat sinks. The question is whether the casino's intake outstrips both normal/background levels and/or enhanced supply of platinum. Sure, it will depend on other variables such as enforcement of the rules (against automation). But the devs can run the analytics on that.

What are you referring to? There is only one casino in EQ and I would not say that has ever functioned as a plat sink and from what I read of your idea wont serve as one either.

I don't dislike the idea of a casino 2.0 but it will not work in the way you are hoping.

The people with a surplus of platinum won't care, and the casuals will buy plat with Krono to get access to the casino loot.

Also comparing EQ and EQ2 economy is like comparing Monopoly Money to The Game of Life currency, or Stanley Nickels to Scrute Bucks.

Many players are collectors of armor ornaments, illusions, and mounts. Some people like the novelty of Beer Goggles. Still others will see the utility of a clickable bolt spell on in-era stat gloves (Snakefingers).

The overwhelming majority of players will grind missions for the casino tickets, sure. If people want to dump extra platinum to get the chase items while benefiting from minor prizes, then more power to them.

It's not a bad idea, I don't hate it. I typically think tying player power to the standard game currency is always kind of a slippery slope. But, if you limit the slots to 1 or 2 for the chase items it's not as bad, imo. WoW does this with trade skill gear, or raid BOEs. You have the option to pay for those but it's not going to kit you out and it's never an item impactful enough to fully change the power dynamic for your character. A revamp to the system could be a good thing.

I will just wait for the Casino Kit Part 2. :D

Maybe I can make a krono by renting out all the pieces to it

You can already buy previous expansion raid gear on EQ1: Blood-Soaked, Ice-Encrusted, Descending Moon items.

Either, we should do away with chase loot or make some modifications (obtainable through gameplay and plat sink in a new test iteration of a casino).
  20. Truetotheblue Augur

Yup, I know. I was happy to get a Blood-soaked one for my Beastlord. I am more just conveying I like the idea of having that available in the casino as long as it's tightly controlled on how much that can change your gearing. It shouldn't be prolific and should be able to fill out a slot or two if you decide to chase it. I disagree with the stance that having them in the casino is bad for the game. There's people that don't raid and having a way to obtain better items than group gear is good. Just as long as it's not better than the more difficult alternative for obtaining a full set of gear. A few slots? Ok. Fill out your toon? Hard pass.
