Its Per account .. it would be ridiculous if it was per toon ..

    Not in DPG's logic...

Since they seem to have no shame in trying to squeeze out every last penny from customers, it would not surprise me at all if they do as many of these perks as they can on a per toon basis instead of per account.

If this was just a Monthly rate change to $19.99 to play EQ I would gladly pay it. I will probably do this anyways just to help support the 1 game I play which is 80% of my entertainment month to month, it's a bargain. Couple extra inventory slots ( which is by no means pay to win ) is really the only feature here that will make much of a difference and to be real, it's not a huge upgrade.

This perk is designed to draw money in from people who are using the Krono they earn IN game every month to circumvent having to EVER spend real money. I don't blame them for trying this. They're not getting enough money because of all of you who don't actually want to spend a dime on the game. And I don't blame you for not wanting to spend money but don't blame them for actually trying to find ways to get some cash. If they don't get enough cash, the game goes away. Actually if you think about it they should just be offering better legacy items. The items they offered in that recent cash grab package for legacy items were absolutely useless and horrible. There wasn't a single item I even would have wanted for free in that pack. What people like is rare cosmetics, merc contracts, and mounts. Not the absolute junk that was in that last package. An example of a good item that would make people spend money would be the Contract of the Bixie from the Collector's Edition of the Call of the Forsaken expansion. That would make people spend money. Stuff like that.

it has nothing todo with the people that pay with krono they earn in game .. those krono's are bought by someone so DPG gets their money ..

This is a result of the lifetime subs they sold few years ago .. they are trying to bring in revenue from the lifetime subs , which im sure the regret doing now ..

I wouldn't say that they're getting steady money by assuming someone is buying the Kronos (now), simply because there are people with hundreds of amassed OLD krono the profits of which were realized years ago- which doesn't count towards their recent revenue. It definitely has an impact on their current influx of cash. I agree the lifetime membership was an odd thing to do- it was almost like a hail mary cash grab a company might do if they thought they were folding- it actually made me nervous seeing that they were offering it.

I don't need to spend real money. Someone else does that when they buy krono from DBG and sell it to me.
  9. Accipiter Old Timer

That's has been debated here ad nauseum. It depends on the accounting approach they take. One is to realize the revenue from krono the moment they are sold. They other is to treat it like gift cards and only realize the revenue once the krono is consumed. I suspect the latter but we don't know for sure.
  10. The real Sandaormo Augur

What they oughta do , and people would hate this is put a timer on Krono. Click to advance your toons subscription in 30 days or lose it.Make it tradeable fine but make them go away so there's no hoarding them.

A lot of these Krono's have been hanging around for so long the money that bought them is already off the books.
  11. Tutankamen Augur

At this point they really couldn't do that because the Krono people bought didn't have timers on them when they were bought- that would be like changing the contract after its signed. Also, it's kind of nice to be able to save them up. I was just saying, the reason for all the new pay to play perks is to try to generate revenue outside of Krono- so I don't think people should be so hard on them for trying that.

They need to put an expiry time on Kronos
  13. Accipiter Old Timer

Businesses do things like this all the time. Casinos, for example, sometimes retire old chips. They give advanced notice (like 6+ months) and a cutoff date. You have until that date to exchange or cash in the old chips. So there's precedence if they wanted to put a timer on krono.

I'd be OK with a timer on krono, but lots of issues come to mind. For example, how do I use my oldest krono first? A UI would have to be developed.
  14. Waring_McMarrin Augur

They would have to completely redo the UI so you know when a krono expires either for the purpose of using them or if you are buying/selling them. Not to mention that would only work for krono going forward which would cause confusion.

It would make zero sense for someone to pay $18 for something that expires in any case.

I am curious how many new Kronos have been purchased in the past 6/12/24/36 months. Or are people just moving the Kronos that are out there from one person to another and using it as currency and not as in game membership?

I also wonder if there is enough Kronos in the economy to not have to worry about buying more. If only 10 people use Krono and there is 1200 Krono out there, then those ten people have one account paid for the next ten years. Why buy more Krono as that point and introduce it to the economy, the economy is already over saturated as is. (Obviously I know more than ten people are using Krono, was just an illustration)
  17. Cicelee Augur

Pretty sure it was the company before them that did the lifetime subscription to temporarily inflate their books and bottom line. But yes the current company is now realizing how those lifetime memberships are a negative and not a positive.

I usually buy 1 or 2 a month to fund tradeskilling. a guildee will always buy them, he 6 boxes and uses them to help pay for his monthly membership.

I've been back for two months now. Surprised something like this would even be a thing. If you'd tackle the people using Krono for Real Money, those poors that can't afford their rent or know how to get a job then you would be getting more regular sales.

Nothing says "I don't give a spit" more then letting sites like PlayerAuctions murder your bottom line. I didn't even know about the other train-wreck until I read it here. Lifetime accounts was a reality before? Foot-in-Mouth and hard.
