I don't box and do not use I S Boxer. The reason I think I S Boxer isn't cheating is because Niente whitelisted it on non-truebox servers https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq...r-code-for-rizlona.266957/page-6#post-3924380

None of this is "my views" it is what darkpaw themselves have expressed through official channels.

If the command is still there, you should report it as an exploit.

    Full disclosure.

I have never installed any 3rd party everquest app on any machine in all these years.

I have downloaded code to look at. I have admired Soulbanshee's tradeskill parser, awesome stuff.

I still own my Microsoft Developer Network Universal subscription discs from 99-2000 ish, and could (in theory) edit and compile code from then. I have never.

I may or may not have dabbled with PowerShell or the like. And may or may not be perfectly capable of writing my own executable programs that could be considered '3rd party'.

    I don't know nothin' 'bout no I S B or M Q anything.

Totally agree, those things aren't cheating, per se. Depends on how you use it, or in conjunction with what else.

Key repeating has also explicitly been said to be permitted.

    It's only cheating when AFK.

The only enforcement they have is human interaction.

Well first off, I'm crazy, so maybe my ideas are meaningless on this.

But I took a look again, and here are just a few that stuck out, most I've never even played with.
    /adriver
    /log
    /loadskin
    /mcicontrol
    /mp3
    /note
    /outputfile
    /reverb
    /reversesound
    /rewind
    /sdriver
    /trackplayers
    /viewport
    /vplay

This does not include the one I had in mind.
  4. Accipiter Old Timer

I was pretty sure you said you use i s b in another thread. My bad.

Most of those commands are pretty innocent afaik...

    /adriver :no clue
/log :enables logging, used by GINA and parsers
/loadskin :think it is used to reload an UI file after you have edited it.
    /mcicontrol :no clue, microphone support?
    /mp3 :mp3 player, I sometimes use it
/note :notepad as in-game tool, pretty useful for taking notes
/outputfile :useful for a text-file overview of inventory(and "stuff"), I use "missingspells" occasionally.
    /reverb :no clue, sound related?
/reversesound :no clue, sound related, stereo swap maybe?
    /rewind :for getting unstuck
    /sdriver :no clue, sound related?
    /trackplayers :no clue, sounds suspicious...:p
/viewport :controls the 3d-view size of the screen, no need to render 3d-graphics behind the chat-windows
    /vplay :no clue

At times I feel like you're trying to bait me into explaining the details of a specific exploit. Which I don't think I have.

I enjoy rhetorical discussions, and find the possibilities of stuff (being sold on Ali Baba for goodness sake) fascinating. I enjoy the discussion. I am for sure not making something up, or saying anything I don't know for damn sure what I'm talking about.

    So for last round.

We are talking about getting feedback from the game in a totally legitimate way (with only video and audio information).

    Combined with a programmable mouse.

Remember I said you can trigger a new 'profile' on the mouse based on an external action? You can have the mouse watch a selected file for access, when the file is accessed the mouse takes up a new set of actions based on that game feedback.

So as I perused the list, anything that accesses a file is an 'attack vector' (as it's called).

Right there, if you're creative, you can setup the game, and your mouse to do things far more complex and responsive to dynamic events than you are imagining. All legit actions, all undetectable, no AI training needed.

If you want to get more complex and use GINA or write your own log/file parser. It should be obvious why
    /log
    /note
    /outputfile
    would be of interest.

All of the sound related ones are of interest to me. For example yes,
/stereoswap switches Left and Right channels, for if you put you headphones on wrong, or set your speakers up wrong (love the idea of this one made for idiots). Or if you had a setup that responds to audio coming from the right speaker only.

"/vplay no clue" hah of course, nobody uses this.
There are a whole set of sounds that say brief things like "ready to move out" in both female and male voices (maybe even different race ones) and you select the phrase and it plays the one for your sex (and possibly race, can't remember). Check your game files.

/trackplayers I didn't know, it just interested me for use with a box crew.

/rewind could be used to intentionally run a character past a mob to aggro, and then into a geometry spot where they get stuck. After some creativity on your part and enough time has passed, you /rewind that character out.

You aren't programming an AI. You don't need to program around every possible unknown thing that could happen. You can leverage errors to your advantage.

The mobs appear in fixed locations or wander in observable patterns. /loc is cartesian numbers, you can code that so easy.

They sell USB dongles that identify to your computer as a mouse and graphic card, but have cheat code built in, and can identify human silhouettes on the fake graphic card and send the perfectly aimed mouse signals.

This is already proven tech, game companies are now having to deal with in games that are very fast paced fps, for-money competitions.

With the ancient nature of this game, manipulating it in a variety of ways is really easy.

So to sum up, anti cheat and 'cloud' are not 100% solutions to cheating.

And so Survey Says: EQ on GeForce? No, why would I?

That was not my intention at all. I don't need any details, only the devs do.
And yes, this is strictly an academic discussion at this point, don't feel targeted. :)

It is my belief that the more elaborate cheats that requires dedicated hardware, is mostly aimed at specific E-sports-games where you can make a profitable career out of cheating.
I doubt that the Krono-trade is profitable enough to incentivize that kind of investment.

That said, I can't imagine any computer-game where cheating is theoretically impossible(unless they hire an incorruptible observer to stand next to you, at all times...:p ).

I wonder how that dongle would handle that HDCP protocol that Strawberry mentioned.
I would also imagine Microsoft would have an objection to hardware masquerading as other hardware(thats why some cd-copyprotecting-schemes like Starforce no longer works in Win7 and later, afaik). I wouldn't count on those dongles to work on Win11 at all.
On the other hand, GFX thirdparty apps like https://reshade.me/ , do need access to the G-Buffer to work, but it is explicitly disabled in multiplayer games afaik.

With the ubiquity of cell phones, which have a camera and microphone built in, can easily be connected to your home network, can be used as a controller for other devices, and apps are easily written and distributed for:

The HDCP example is easily thwarted. "tape a camera to the screen?" No just face your cell phone at the screen.

If the human can get feedback to play the game, you can capture feedback for hardware/software, and it is much faster at following instructions, and even learning.
    Jumbur likes this.
  10. Jumbur Improved Familiar

True, captured feedback through a smartphone is certainly possible, but I noticed that those dongles had a very short list of supported games, so I doubt the silhouette-regocnizing tech will work in the general sense, but it is technically possible.
When China can develop realtime face-recognition on surveillance cameras, then you can also extract enough info from a picture of your monitor through a smartphone.

I would expect development cost to be waaay above what a dishonest gamer would pay, though.

Maybe it will be cheap enough in the next decade, who knows...

I would expect such a dongle to contain a keylogger too, though...
  11. MasterMagnus The Oracle of AllHigh

    Read this for sure
    https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2021...puter-vision-auto-aim-that-works-on-any-game/

Of course I'm not proposing using anything of this sort within the context of EQ.

/loc is just cartesian numbers, x and y, you can't even effectively change your z position.

You can move your character with arrow keys.

I can set up a camp backed into a corner, so I don't get pushed out of position. If you get summoned you can just press macro the back arrow for a given time and be back in your corner.

You can compare a /loc to a desired position and code the arrow key presses to get there SO easy.

Writing this code and putting it on a chip, is far easier and some people in some countries are far more motivated to make even a small amount of money, over and over and over again, than you might imagine.
  12. MasterMagnus The Oracle of AllHigh

Sorry I didn't reply. I thought you were making a joke that they are all exploitable.

    Looking over that list.
/system is the command I was thinking but not mentioning. For what should be obvious reasons.

This command will allow you to execute a system command and pass arguments to it.
    Example: /system notepad c:\notes.txt
Note: EnableSystemCommand=1 must be set in the [default] section of eqclient.ini to enable this command.

Although in the 'cloud' example, we assume you can't edit your eqclient.ini.

Does /system still work? You can launch a .bat file with that.

Seems like /url and /www could be vectors as well. Plus the social media things. And isn't there some stuff that allows you to tie-in to Discord?
  13. Jumbur Improved Familiar

I have seen someone link an item in chat, where clicking the link made you do the /burp emote.

Imagine, if instead it made you use the /pizza command that ordered a pizza...That would be an obnoxious prank. (I thought they removed /pizza actually?)

Anyway, I would expect the new 4Games launcher to scan for processes that interacts with EQ, so starting external programs with /system probably wouldn't work.
Not to mention it would be a big security flaw for Geforce Now, if you could start any external process like that. I expect the games with Geforce Now to be "sandboxed".

Let's have some fun. You do one.

Tell me how you might write an 'Automated Bat Phone' system for your guild, even if you were all restricted by 'cloud' cheat restrictions.

    Using only the /share command.

*edit* Ok you can use key repeating too ;)

*edit2* If nobody can afford a waterbird.
  15. MasterMagnus The Oracle of AllHigh

Nyaaaah times up. I gave hints.
Possible solutions were included on the board for the searching.

Oh ye people of little imagination. The game is ancient. There is any number of ways that it can and is manipulated by nefarious individuals that like cheating in an ancient game for what ever reason that nobody truly understands.

The thing is that those of us that don't cheat, we don't do it because we can't. We don't cheat because we don't want to cheat. It's that simple.

Every time a change is made to the game to stop a cheater (or attempt.. they never truly succeed long term), it does nothing more than place more restrictions on the non-cheating crowd. The cheaters continue to cheat. They find ways to get around the change.

Just play the game, and have fun. When it stops being fun for you anymore, stop playing.

And, Darkpaw Games, please stop hurting the 99% of your customer base that doesn't cheat just because you are trying to stop the 1% that does cheat. Instead of making the game less organic, police the 1% crowd. Effective customer service should be the answer.

It is, and it isn't. We all have a line.

I am against using the evil bot program on TrueBox TLPs because it was expressly forbidden (excluding Rizlona, of course). I haven't used i s boxer because I box on separate PCs and it never really made sense to use it for my setup. I don't look down on people who use these programs, I just don't use them myself.

However, I'm fine with "helping" EQ as long as it is something of my own creation. That's my line.

Yeah, I really don't get DPG's stance on this. They continually do this and I honestly think they don't know any better. It seems that there's no one there anymore that knows the game.
