shouldn't the CoV expansions be going on sale here soon by this month or beg of September ? If DP is going to do sales this year ..

I don't recall what the timing has been in the past, but as far as I know, they haven't announced anything specific about the next expansion yet (not its name, where in the game world it will be set, expected beta/release schedule, nada). I wouldn't expect a sale for CoV until at least they have done that.

[edit: P.S. - I think sales for the current expansion are usually a month or so before pre-orders for the next expansion are available, since the pre-order usually includes access to all existing expansions you don't already own, right?)

Probably around the beginning of September, yea

The game also has a new owner in EG7.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Expect no sale or a minimum sale (10% off in addition to All Access 10% off). They could also offer a major sale on the basic-tier expansion (50% off) but I wouldn't hold my breath.

By all indications, Collector and Premium Tiers will no longer return to 50% off since they charge high prices for past editions. (This is their prerogative).

I ya , i was figuring on around 10 to 20% sale .. still have not decided if im gonna buy but want to budget jic ..
only have 2 accounts that I might buy CoV for , if its on sale .. so not sure might just wait and see what the new expansion is and If i want to partake in that this year..

I'm also debating buying COV or waiting. I could do with the Dragons Hoard on Mischief (125 slots is a lot when you have no housing) might be better doing that than waiting to buy the feature on the Marketplace and getting the next expansion. Though I'm not sure I will get the next expansion on the account I use on Mischief.

It all comes down to the cost.

I'm not buying any of them if it's not 50% this year

If it is a 20% sale like last year, who cares? I didn't purchase any last year, and I won't this year with those prices. My kids and wife went FTP because of this, and they basically left the game.

I guess it is just the old retirees and ex-military personnel with money to spare that are going to be playing EQ in the future. Good luck with that as a long term strategy.

So in Daybreak's defense, they haven't raised the basic expansion price in like 10 years. I think inflation may warrant some price increase in the future. (San Diego, where the studio is based, is not cheap to live in). But I'd much rather see some cut to the 50% off than a more permanent overall increase in prices.

To put it in perspective, $35 is the price of two movie tickets or dinner for two in most places. It's not terribly expensive for 1 year of enjoyment. (Some will debate the value). I do think they should sell multi-box bundles for a slight discount.

Raising the price would be disastrous.

Edit: They already raised the prices through different editions, but the base price needs to stay under $40.

I'll have to agree with Benito. for the base expansion price of $35 you get a lot of stuff to do for a year granted most will get thru it within 2 to 3 months and there are some that will run thru it in few weeks . for me i take my time and usually takes me 6 mo to a year to fully go thru and do everything .. and I dont raid .. also I still have a ton of catch up from past expansions that i want to do ..

I think the base expansion should include a few more bells and whistles like a single clicky gate to the new expansion and a familiar or xp potion or 2.. they want to keep the illusions and mounts and heroic toons and such for the more expensive collectors and premium thats fine .. I usually buy 1 or 2 of those when they go on sale ...the first year they did the F&F and when they went on sale i bought one. I prolly wont be buying this years cause just to expensive if they dont give 50% off .. but i will buy the premium cause I always want the illusions and mounts so my main account always gets the flashy stuff ..

I have 1 or 2 accounts that still could use CoV , but if i have to i'll just wait another year till this years expansion goes on sale next october ..

Are you kidding me? If you can't afford this game then you are doing yourself and your family a disservice by paying to play it no matter the price.

There is always one I swear.

Meh, it’s a respectable position that they backed up with their wallet. EQ expansions aren’t worth more than $20, in my opinion.
  16. demi Augur

oh and if its gonna be another terrible hard expansion like TBL was locked behind stupid trials and huge AE mobs then I def wont be buying the expansion .. I still have yet to do TBL because the trials are to hard and no one groups for them anymore ..

Unless you play 5 hours a year, yes, it is. It is cheap entertainment, and if the difference in them staying and presumably paying as a customer versus them "losing" the customer is like $8 a year (50% off versus 25% off), then they should have never been playing this game in the first place.

Plus, he clearly implied it was about being able to afford it, not that it wasn't worth it, when he said "I guess it is just the old retirees and ex-military personnel with money to spare that are going to be playing EQ in the future".

If its not worth spending your entertainment budget on, by all means, don't pay for the game. But if $8 a year for the amount of entertainment hours you can or do play this game is a deal breaker financially, then its a horrible use of your time and money to be playing it.

Expansion sales before they come with a preorder are darkpaws version of a payday loan.

haven't even seen the producers letter saying "hey we got something coming up" as far as the expansion goes.

Explain. You may be in a flippant and/or snarky mood like I have been at times, but I don't see the connection. I can guess as to your intended meaning, but I may well be wrong.

Was "swear" the S word referred to in another thread? :) In any case, you make a good point that buying things that are luxuries (and on-line gaming certainly is not an essential part of life) when money is short is extremely foolish.

You've made some good points in other posts, so I'm just going to assume that you were in a huge hurry and didn't really think this comment through. I have never been in the military and I am not retired and I don't see why I won't be able to pay for EQ for a long time to come. Let's check the figures shall we?

I play two accounts. Some claim to have a large number of active accounts, but I have friends and a good guild that help me when I need help and vice versa. I pay by the month.

    1. Each account costs me $14.99 a month. $29.98 for two. That brings it to $359.76 a year.

    2. I usually buy the lowest priced expansion. IIRC that was $34.99 this last time and so that means I spend $69.98 a year on expansions for both accounts.

    3. Add all of that up and it comes to $428.74 a year for a lot of play time. I am not a casual player who does not raid. Divide $428.74 by 12 and it comes to about $35.81 a month. To me, that is cheap.

If I take the whole family of six to Taco Bell, I can easily spend that for a single meal. The last time we went to Olive Garden (a family favorite) we spent more than $100.00 for one meal. Every situation is different (how's that for an obvious statement?), but there are, in fact, many millions of people in the U.S. who can easily afford to pay for an EQ account or two and an expansion each year.

I can't speak for folks in the UK, EU and elsewhere (apologies if I inadvertently offend someone with a triggering acronym) but for me the cost to play EQ seems really cheap. Especially when I divide the cost by the number of hours played. For me, it is literally pennies per hour.
