After the patch for some reason the adds are randomly exploding at times while killing instead of exploding when Sontalak hits 6%.
If you burn him down you watch them constantly explode. If you slow kill him you probably kill them before he drops enough. The mezzable ones don't explode until 6% or whatever. The non-mezzable ones do.
Just killed Sontalak ~30 minutes ago and didn't get any explosions until sub-10%. Don't remember when. He DID walk away and leash for no good reason at 7%, though... so that's nice.
Guilds that never experienced an explosion prior to 5/6% never progressed Sontalak's health enough while burning ______ adds were up. Those save Sontalak's HP when they spawn, and explode 7% later (at least in theory; in practice it's a little bit more janky, but that's the idea).
We had them blow up last night at 9-10%, wiped us as we were expecting 7%. A few weeks ago another guild of mine cruised through to Sontalak at 45% life until ANY adds even spawned, and then the exttar window was overrun by adds. Suffice to say, we failed that too, and we were on a record setting run previously. Maybe the new (real) strategy here is to slow roll DPS, take 35 minutes to ensure adds spawn, crawl into the raid, and are killed, before Sontalak gets to 10% and then no longer has the opportunity to randomly blow up any adds.
That's what we do. Last night was our fastest attempt yet and it took us 46.5 minutes-- including having him leash and heal back to 100% @ 7%. Our strat: Stay ahead of the revolving aura Do our best to get out of the statue-based beam AE (heals and rezzes for those who don't/can't) Flip Sontalak to minimize directional AE damage from the dragon Kill all the adds as they spawn
