Tradeskill Drops - ToV

    "- Added a small chance for 'humanoids' in Torment of Velious to drop Raw Velium Ore, Velium Infused Pelt, Velium Infused Spider Silk, or Velium Infused Logs. The ore is in addition to the ore they already drop."

    I don't know if it is just my bad luck, but since the patch, I haven't been getting any tradeskill item drops. I have killed Tizmaks in GD over the last 3 days and have yet to get any of the above items on them, where before I would get logs, ores and diamond. Now, nothing. I just tested again this morning killing 30 or so shivering tizmaks with only ice slush and meat slurry dropping.

    Yesterday, I I also killed wurms in the GD. Not a single one of them dropped velium infused pelts where they did (occasionally) before the patch. I killed somewhere around 50 wurms

    Anyone else having this issue or is it just my bad luck?

    got both pelts and silks not many, about (1 in 50/60 mobs) from giants and coldains in EW and GD today (AB server)

    Havent been watching for it but someone in group said a silk dropped from a ghoul.

    Killed 57 mobs in GD for earring, not 1 dropped logs which is needed for the quest, perviously killing Dorfs & tizmaks I would get a few.

    Deffinatly something up.

    Been grinding in the GD to evolve my earring for the last few days. So far, I've had one (1) ore drop. Nothing else.

    There IS something wrong and it happened in the last patch. It looks like they didn't add a small chance of silks, pelts, ore etc.. dropping on humanoid mob, but replaced the old % with this new small chance.

    You are having extrodinarilly bad luck.

    The first block of 4 red lines (note the GL# is the same, 1918) that is the NEW table
    the second single red line (GL#1632) is the original table.

    I have gotten a couple of silks and a pelt from giants in KD. It seems quite rare, so RNG hatred is likely in your case sadly.

    Pulling a list is not the same a going into the game and trying to reproduce the issue. I have done that for you. I have killed a few hundred, humanoid mobs in The Great Divide. We are talking 250-350 mobs since the last patch. There is NO way I am having THAT bad of luck, even for my normal strings of bad luck.

    Using your list, I should theoretically have: (using the low side, say 250 humanoid mobs)

    Restless Ice Slush - I have had TONS of these drop
    Restless Meat Slurry - I have had TONS of these drop
    Velium Infused Logs - None, but at your drop percentage it should be: ~ 20
    Velium Impacted Raw Diamond - 1, but at your drop percentage it should be: ~40
    Raw Velium Ore - 1, but at your drop percentage it should be: ~25
    Infused Spider Silk - None, but at your drop percentage it should be: ~9, but that is on the old table

    So two total tradeskill drops (aside from slush and Slurry) out of a possibility of 100?

    Also, I have had quite a few of the collectables drop from these mobs.

    There is a coding issue here, it is not bad luck. Until you, or someone actually goes into the game, kills a bunch of shivering tizmaks to see if your tables are being applied correctly, you can't say you cannot reproduce the issue.

    Something may be off, but your math is wrong for the new logs and pelts:

    .5% of 250 is really .005 x 250 ... or 1.25

    But it looks like there's a second line for logs in the data so should be ~20 total for a 250 average run.

    For me, the diamond numbers (you say you got 1, and expect 40) indicate that something a little strange is going on in the calculations for drops. Ore numbers would also indicate something isn't quite right.

    Honestly, it would help if people posted some kill sessions on humanoid mobs with the list of drops they received from them to see if there's a pattern.

    The new silk/pelt drops are happening (gotten off Griklor and his adds myself) but it does seem like the old stuff is being suppressed a little ... which is bad news on the ores.

    My math may be off, but I can assure you that BEFORE the patch last week, I had consistent drops for logs, diamond and ore off the same mobs (never any silk or pelts, since these are not dropping in GD except the pelts for wurms)

    Ok I will try to do some math. I am mainly doing this to show that really low percantages can lead to huge time sinks, something I believe the current developers don't care about addressing at all. I camped raster with 2 other people for 3 days straight and never saw him. Yet, if I were to complain, I would just get a certain developer just say "that's your bad luck lol"
    I will be using a binomial distribution calculator.

    Of note, I don't understand how loot tables work entirely. These numbers below represent if each roll was separate, i.e. getting silk does not prevent getting other things.
    I will be using an N size of both 250 and 350.

    For the simplicity of the math, I am going to assume they are in fact "different drop".
    0.25% For this one, on average expect 0.625 to 0.875 for killing between 250 and 350.
    10.0% For this one, on average expect 25 to 35 for killing between 250 and 350.
    So overall, expect ~26 to ~36 for those kill ranges.

    So what are the odds that we can expect to see these numbers?

    Restless Ice Slush - I have had TONS of these drop
    Restless Meat Slurry - I have had TONS of these drop
    Velium Infused Logs - None, but at your drop percentage it should be: ~ 20
    Velium Impacted Raw Diamond - 1, but at your drop percentage it should be: ~40
    Raw Velium Ore - 1, but at your drop percentage it should be: ~25
    Infused Spider Silk - None, but at your drop percentage it should be: ~9, but that is on the old table

    I ran these through the Binomial calculator, and found it should be impossible (statistically) to kill those many and only receive those amounts.

    Isn't it something like, each loot table can drop 1 item <per roll?> (I think it may have been mentioned they can have a loot table roll multiple times).
    For each loot table:
    Build an array, probably at minimum size 1000
    Enter items into the array for probability, example .5% of size 1000 would have 5 item entries
    Any unused array slots will be empty
    Roll the chance that the loot table will drop (I believe this is part of the logic and what may be the missing statistical part)
    If the chance to drop succeeds:
    Roll the index in the array to select the item
    Seed the item to the drop loot list for the mob (if any)

    The loot table ID 1918 is probably rolling the chance at silk, logs, pelt, and ore together. 1 roll has a 3.75% chance at silk, or a .5% chance at logs, or a .5% chance at pelt, or a .25% chance at ore (the new loot table). That aside, there are separate original tables for logs (8%), diamond (16%), and ore (10%).

    There is also a lack of which specific mobs were farmed mentioned in this thread. The patch is specifically adding a loot table to humanoid mobs. Of the ones mentioned:
    Tizmak - likely not humanoid
    Wurms - not humanoid
    Dwarves - humanoid
    Restless Cadaver - humanoid

    And a sample size of 350 is statistically insignificant even though the effort to grind that many seems long, can easily get hit with the low end of randomness.

    Okay, then explain why I was getting ores, logs and diamonds from tizmaks before the last patch and now, almost zero.

    Explain why, before the patch, I would get diamonds and logs (or ore) off the same mob?

    Tizmaks dropped these items before the patch, so even if they are not considered humanoid (which I believe they are), the patch stated that the other small chance was in addition to their normal drop table.

    I kill tizmaks and restless cadavers mainly.

    350 is quite a few mobs. I have a few hundred of each drop item from grinding earring evolution, so i definitely can attest to the difference
