Wizard can be played intelligently with 1 hand or even just a mouse. You simply cannot be a good puller or melee dps like that. That's what makes them easier moreso than knowing spells, Abilities and rotations.

Necro and Monk (not gear dependent) will be top DPS on raids. Next would be Rogue (gear dependent) and Wizard.

Mages are AMAZING on group content, and can even do very well in a raid, however you take that same skilled person and put a necro or monk in their hands and they will crush their Mage parse. Again, this is on a raid target, grouping DPS is a whole diff conversation.

Dmfing everyone for Trak kills can get a bit annoying until you can pick up the group spell.

I've never been a wizard, but I always felt bad for wizards, they are too central to mobilizing the entire guild for a raid. They would always end up being the last people at the raid, when everyone else was already buffed and had mana. Wizards arrive "precisely when he means to" but also with no mana.

Wizard. Most stuff in classic / kunark dies too fast anyways. be aware about bellycasters an you will be top dps.

If the Wizard is top DPS in classic/kunark, I really want to know what your monks are doing

You're doing grouping wrong if you have time/mana to keep 7-8 DoTs on mobs. I think everyone forgot to read the OPs post...this isn't a raid thread, it is a DPS that doesn't have to work in groups/raids thread. Meaning an easy raid class that has to pull 100% of the times in groups is not a good choice.

Not sure why people are even talking about the amount of DPS classes do, the OP never asked about it.

Every class to be maximally effective requires a decent amount of effort. Mage probably fits what OP is looking for the best. Coasting at 80 percent on a mage in both raid and group settings is pretty low effort. Mage slightly more responsibility than a wizard in that you might need to summon an item or CotH someone sometimes, but none of that is complex.

    He specifically mentioned raids.

Serious case of monk envy... lol..

Wizards are so easy to play that after a long session of playing a wizard it's hard to do a more difficult task like only making a single post.

    (just kidding!)

Haha, yah they're super laid back in the group game...but to max em out on raids really requires you to know which tank is up and how much threat they pull extremely well. Also, if you can snag a mana robe you have a 100% uptime on casting and can get into some fun stuff clipping the 1.5s gcd with the robe click between concussions/nukes. It's a really deep rabbit hole to go down...not to mention competing with other wizards on parse trying to do the same thing without getting ganked. I really don't think there is a tougher dps class in the game just because of the risk vs reward with threat that other competitive classes don't have to think about.

    MONK for melee

WIZARD (however many things resists fire in this game)

go bard. Hit bellow once in a while, afk melody the rest of the time, you'll do just fine on parses in group or raid.

We will be stuck on the server for 3 months and cap 50. By then we will all have 2-3 alt's lv 50. you have time to choose!

You said it yourself... go rog.

Pure dps. Stab stab stab. Not much else asked of you.

Doubt you will see many corpse runs like you are thinking. Gear dont rot. It for res only.

In the grouping game, both classes are single macro classes.

    Wizard - /assist main, /nuke, /sit.
    Mage - /assist main, /pet qattack, /nuke, /sit.

The only difference is, as a mage, you'll actually get a group.

For raiding, these classes aren't exactly pushing the limits of actions-per-minute, but more involved than group play.

Wizard - Teleport groups, nuke when possible, rinse and repeat. Requires some skill weaving rains and nukes to do "good" dps. Eat DTs in PoSky.
Mage - Control pet, mod rod, malo, nuke when possible, rinse and repeat. Hide in corner on Naggy raids.

Wizards are not a good group class until AE zones come out, they have massive trouble finding groups, in classic they are not a great raid class either, POSky is the end game raid zone and they can't even hit the bosses.

Mage/Necro pets in classic are stupidly OP, your pet dps alone is better than most players in groups during the initial push to 50. Necro edge out mage in most raids because of FD and their dots have huge negative resist modifiers, mages have lots of trouble with agro in raids.

Pure dps though monk is hands down best, they are by far the best raid dps in classic, easiest to gear and solid group dps, they are only beaten by chanters, necro or druid with a charm pet in groups until luclin when rogue and ranger start to get more competitive.

Monk is also the most consistent, you never hit a real bad lull or series of xpacs where you fall way behind, all the other classes ebb and flow some, with wizard probably being the second most consistent, they are really strong in raids after classic.

Necro right now is an interesting question mark long term, normally I would have said they peak in kunark and by luclin you are seeing serious competitive issues in raids but now with some dot revamps actually happening who knows. Still though, they aren't great in groups when they can't charm and struggle to get them in later xpacs.

If you've played any other games in the last 20 years you are going to find out that even the more technically difficult classes to play are very easy. Learning the game mechanics, travel, dungeon layouts, etc is going to be the bigger challenge for you. That being said I would suggest the mage. It's very easy class to play, easy to find groups, and you do great damage. A wiz is going to have a lot harder time finding a group than a mage.
