I would have said Wizzys would make good chemists as they are always blowing things up. :)

But they I would want the gnome look from EQ2 with crazy hair and mad glasses. :D

fwiw, I'm not terribly upset by the current situation. I have an entirely sufficient supply of friends, teammates, and the-ability-to-create alts to cover the dependencies. My objection is purely semantic.

As do I, but for returning players and new players this is not true. I don't advocate changing the current distribution of skillsets but I do admit that it can be highly intimidating at times to get things done with tradeskills. Tweaking things isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

I never fell in love with EQ2's combat but the early tradeskill system was fantastic & I liked that you could try them all out but later on had to pick just one to specialise in - that they moved away from that later was a mistake in my opinion.

I think either have ONE tradeskill per player (or one speciality if you have a staggered specialisation system a la EQ 2) or just have ALL of them available to every player, in EQ's case I think the latter makes much more sense at this point.

That said if we were talking EQ 3 I think gathering skills are something all should be good at.

Edit: On second thought this is a derail and I'm ditching it.

I am all for opening Alchemy, Poison Crafting and Tinkering for everyone. Yes, I have a Rogue, a Shaman and a Gnome on my account and yes, I spent way too much plat and time on skilling, but I would love to be able to do it all with one character. Heck, I would even pay money for this.
And while we are at it... I want to suggest additional shared bank slots that can be filled only with TS-stuff or bags that only hold TS-stuff...
That said I want to add: I am thankful for all the positive changes of the TS-interface over the last years.

I have guild mates and yes they are very helpful. I am also glad to help when asked, but I personally like to be self sufficient. People without those resources are left to buy stuff from the bazaar at outrageous prices. The new power supplies are being sold at a steep mark-up at the moment.

Because of this post I spent Saturday working on trade skills. I had an enchanter, Sham, Rog that I took from 0 skill to 300 in a matter of 12 hours. I didn't do the trophy quest but if you get them at low level then they can be done in less then an hour.

With 300 and no trophy I was able to make all off the sub combines and complete my ear quest.

I did spend about 3 mil pp but I was not farming anything just did vendor combine as high as I could (275 for rog as an example ) and then paid the baz for what I need to get to 300.

At 300 the fail rate was about 1-4 so I would recommend the trophy is you going to level but you don't need to go to 350 my any means.

I did this to show if you want to do it on your own it is possible. if you do want to spend the pp then you could farm the mats either way if your doing the trade skill quest upping these on alts is not going to slow you down much.

And if you don't want to do the trophy's there are player made items called gearlocks. Tinkered, gives +5% to the relevent skill.

But you had 3 toons to do the sub combines and had to spend tons PP and effort to level them up and level up their TS. Which you could not do on your main. That still does not prove balance.

Ok. I had 3 toons. well the games been out for 20+ years if I didn't have 3 toons I would be more shocked. I mean doesn't everyone have 3+ alts at this point?

Doing the sub combine. you mean I play a game and and have to do things in the game? Wow I never consider that I thought everything was just auto granted.

The sub combines cost Tons of PP.. Hmm never thought 3 mil was a lot or even a ton. After all some people have 90 Mil+ now that more like a ton of ppl. Also I spent the money because I was LAZY and didn't want to farm mats. it also why i didn't do the trophies or gear lock.

I would click auto combine then watch Netflix on my other screen until I need new mats. My guess is that I wasted a lot of time and that it could have been done faster. Or I could have spent more time farming and it would have cost less. to me 3 mil was a price i was willing to pay to not have to farm because I do not feel it is a TON of pp but i could be wrong. I never did look up how heavy a pp is so I may be a ton.

Hmmm as for Balance ............ when has EQ ever been balanced? Wiz / druids port .. SK / PAL / War Tank and there tons of post about how they are not balanced and that just 3 tanks... I know that druid / Cleric / sham are not balanced when it comes to healing. so Why should TS be any different. So one class can make one thing another makes make something else.

My point was it not hard to do it on your own if you want to be independent.
If you don't want to do TS then don't ask some one else to make it for you.

As for my, myself and I we are all enjoying the quest. it reminds me of the EPICS. you know back in the day when it took months to complete and you had to do many steps followed by some TSing followed by GETTING A RAID TO HELP YOU. If your not playing EQ to play it and you want everything given to you on a sliver platter go play WOW. I like having to put effort into quest and this quest line is fun.

Being a shaman I had alchemy covered, so I made a heroic gnome rogue and easily got him to 300 in both poison making and tinkering. Popped a craftsman potion, made a bunch of the combines, camped him out with lots of time on the potion for future combines.
