You'd be surprised how many ways they don't want to take our money.

They have this all figured out, they know better than us what we want.

A trading subforum sounds like it would be fun.

We need a trade subforum. I suspect many people are willing to pay for server transfers in order to attain rare Ice Encrusted loot, illusions, prizes, and other hard-to-obtain items.

I'd love to get the Schrodingers illusion for my pet but not going to buy 1000 boxes and hope to get lucky.

Other games with gambling boxes have the ability to just buy items for more money, rather than just gamble $5 or 8 a shot. I really wish Congress actually did their jobs. They could in fact write and vote on laws so legislation to approve the no gambling boxes sales from MMO's like other regions have could see the light of day in the US. It's heinous and should be considered cancer.

No company that considers themselves "reputable" should use gambling as a source of income in a video game - especially with no in game means to acquire said items (outside the few and far between cases of such items being trade-able - let the other guy spend their cash).

Laws telling us how to spend the money we earn that's exactly what we need.

Just curious what's the difference in a loot box and someone buying a powerball ? Or a lottery ticket at the gas station ? or going to the casino ? All of these things are legal and done daily by millions upon millions of people.

The latter are all heavily regulated. But I get your point. If people want to spend their money that way, why do others "need" to intervene? Although, on the surface, regulated vices redistribute some of the revenue in more constructive ways...depending on your point of view.

Really, I'd just like the ability to have 1 shot beta items on my account come back with 999 like the newer ones. I beta'd in UF, and got the bellikos skin for my merc. But there was only 1 - so only my rogue has it. Would be nice to have it on my druid, too.

It’s a side argument, but loot boxes in a game that has a subscription and annual for purchase content packs are bad. While Everquest loot boxes aren’t on the same level as some other games in regards to showmanship. Gambling laws exist and game companies actively circumvent those laws. If all items from the crate were for sale on the shop, and the crates were essentially a discount grab bag then it becomes a different argument. People will point to trading card games or sports cards, but those operated on a fringe. Both should’ve been classified as gambling, but having lobbyists helps.

I'm no expert. But I think gambling and 'loot boxes' are different, quite a bit really.

Gambling is right up front about what it is, and if you lose you get nothing. Plus you have to be an adult to play.

Collection card games are a little bit more shady, because they market directly to children. But even if you 'lose' (don't get the awesome card you wanted), you are still left with something of value, however small, that can be used within the pursuit of the game it applies to.

Loot boxes are also designed to market to children. And they often give junk items, in the context of EQ, something you can't even use or something of very limited use to you.

Some games have been forced to show what items are in a random loot box before purchase, rather than just 'random from this list'. Which is fine. If you know what you're paying for in advance, that's not gambling.

A blind loot box offers the idea that you're going to get something even if you 'lose'. Adults realize they may get junk, and make a choice. Children may not see the distinction so clearly, and be taken advantage of.

Imagine a restaurant where they bring you a random dish after you pay. They bring you peanut curry, and you're allergic to peanuts. Tough luck. There are laws against bait and switch, but you can't enforce it on a business that isn't saying what they're selling. ;)

Some people have a strong enough mind to resist the urge to "Give me $20 for what might be in my pocketses." Children and the weak minded, less so.

I do not like cash stores in my subscription based MMORPG period. Once upon a time in EverQuest things like illusion masks where earned. Even the DEF mask that was once all/all was moved to the in-game casino played with currency in game, obtainable through in game accomplishments, and easier to obtain for the appropriate illusion classes.

Now there are illusions everywhere and most of them have not been earned. More illusions should be no-trade items from missions and less of them from DBC.

DBC should be for buying Rk2 spell upgrades, J5 mercs, prestige armor, etc AFTER obtaining those items through the normal means in the game. Basically DBC should be a la carte subscriptions for people who want, say prestige armor and nothing else that comes with a monthly sub.

Unfortunately, the damage has been done and can not be undone.

I understand why it is the way it is. It's a business. I get it. Understanding it doesn't make it any less disheartening. Better than seeing the game sunset so it's okay.

I own over 40 illusion items and I agree with Vumad completely. I stopped caring about illusions when they were no longer something you got in game and had to pay real money for them.

Fine with them selling some things in a store but you need a method to earn them in game as well.

I would kill to be able to buy Legends of Norrath ornamentations and such from the marketplace. Some of those weapons are just straight beautiful.

If there is a specific item you want, it's always far better to trade for it than to buy the bags and get lucky.

Very true! I spent 500 bucks trying to score the Ice Giant Facade. Could have gotten for a few krono. I try to justify my stupidity by convincing myself that I was just doing my part in keeping the game around, but reality is, I just wanted that thing first day and wasn't going to lose....at all costs... :p
  18. enclee Augur

Aside from the legal and ethical issues discussed in previous posts, individual item sales would help crate sales. How many people know what comes in the crates or the LoN packs? How many are avoiding purchases simply because they're not informed?
  19. Numiko Augur

Would be nice if they gave a list of whats available from those LoN card packs, when the game imploded the web sites that had list's of all the loot cards seemed to disappear with it, I've only been able to find a few incomplete listings since.
  20. Alarya Augur

This idea would get rid of the uniqueness of said items... I like having my "hard to get illusions" because not everyone can get them.
