I am considering dusting off my paladin for ToV. However, I run a warrior as my main tank. My question is whether anyone can say with certainty how a paladin compares with, say, rogues, berserkers, etc, in ToV since everything is undead. In the comparison, we are assuming all things are equal, such as gear and AAs. So yeah...how are Paladins compared to dps classes in ToV? Thanks!
Well played characters: Sustained (hours of play) - not that far off, any slack at all on the dps class, paladin will exceed (especially if tanking), due to less active dps on the paladin required Burst (0-2 minutes) - 1/2 up to 3/4 of other high dps bursters, equivalent to "ok" played or the lower tier of dps classes (I've done a million dps in some of my guild groups on velks, but real dps doing 1.25 to 2 million, but also been way higher than some other people in same groups, depends on how much they are paying attention and how well-played) Poorly played characters: Sustained: probably way more than real dps Burst: probably more than real dps Why the differences? Most of the paladin dps is coming from melee damage, essentially passive. So if you have X gear and Y aa its hard for dps to be super low compared to someone that knows what they are doing. But for something like a zerker, dps disparity between well and poorly played is huge.
I run a 6-box war/pal/zerk/rog/brd/shm team. My warrior does all the tanking, while the paladin is a support healer role. Gear and AAs are pretty equal here, but skill? As yepmetoo mentioned, pally damage is mostly passive. So even though my box setups might be somewhat close in "skill", the zerker and rogue are probably much further away from their potential than the paladin. Here are some parses for what I've been seeing: Icebound Avatar mission /GU Combined: Icebound Avatar of War in 269s, 444.7m @1653197sdps | Rogue 104.6m@389.0k sdps [23.53%] | Paladin 99097k@368.4k sdps [22.28%] | Warrior + pets 97189k@361.3k sdps [21.85%] | Berserker 87072k@323.7k sdps [19.58%] | Bard + pets 32154k@119.5k sdps [7.23%] | Shaman + pets 16357k@60807sdps [3.68%] | Unknown Class (shm pet) 8209k@30518sdps [1.85%] Velk's mission burn /GU Combined: Icebound Bledrek in 66s, 268.5m @4068604sdps | Berserker 73851k@1,118.9k sdps [27.5%] | Paladin 52450k@794.7k sdps [19.53%] | Warrior 51774k@784.5k sdps [19.28%] | Rogue 49544k@750.7k sdps [18.45%] | Bard + pets 21073k@319.3k sdps [7.85%] | Shaman + pets 17625k@267.0k sdps [6.56%] | Unknown Class 2210k@33491sdps [0.82%] Killing a bunch of random stuff in ToFS with one or two burn cycles /GU Combined: An undead dancer in 1632s, 2,320.7m @1421997sdps | Paladin 514.1m@315.0k sdps [22.15%] | Warrior + pets 499.5m@306.1k sdps [21.53%] | Berserker 491.8m@301.3k sdps [21.19%] | Rogue 478.8m@293.4k sdps [20.63%] {XX} | Bard + pets 190.8m@116.9k sdps [8.22%] | Shaman + pets 97751k@59896sdps [4.21%] I'd say overall, my paladin got promoted to being a full-fledged DPS in my box team vs undead mobs. In TBL it was more like 60-65% of a DPS.
Smells like a troll for a nerf thread... But, I’ve done 1.5 mil dps in 60 second combined of Velks mission, beating the zerkers, rogues, Shadowknights ... The problem is the very niche undead, in a year, we’ll be right back where we were last year.
A 115 well geared well AA zerker burned the other day on Tjoly for 2 million DPS. A 111 modest geared modest AA wizard burned the same mob on a different day for 1 million DPS. You might beat a warrior, but you wont compare to a rogue, zerker or wizard, undead or not.
