when I went to pre-patch as per sae today, I noticed it said something about raising the level cap of heroic adventure NPC's; does that mean that the NPC's in dead hills are going to be higher level now if your characters are over 110?
  2. Ngreth Thergn Developer

    No.
It was an adjustment to the difficulty of the higher level mobs.

Heroic adventures will continue to stop scaling where they currently stop.

ah ok so that means eventually the mobs may grey con for level above 110's doing HA's in dead hills and other locations??

think your safe for a while, grey con is like 20+ levels lower then you .. dead hills wont turn grey till you are like level 130+

I will never understand how you guys make decisions like that honestly. Heroics scaling gave more content to players even if it was older content it scaled up to be relevant. You basically made the entire heroic system useless and abandoned it because of that. I'm not even sure we have seen a non progression related heroic mission since EOK.

Were heroics not made for the exact purpose of being able to scale down and up to the players doing them ?

GMM Scales ( that's why it was soo easy, missions didn't scale properly to 110 and were using EOK stats)

There was like a 30 page thread complaining about the scaling, which is what prompted them to change it. It is a real shame because there's a lot of content that could be scaled up for max level if it wasn't capped, and it does make the system somewhat pointless.

The problem with the system, and to some extent the idea of level scaling content in general, is you can never out level the content to make it easier. That has the benefit of providing more relevant content, but the cost that people who want to complete content as it ages (e.g. people hoping to level to 110 to finally complete TBM progression) can never make it easier. It was especially an issue with fewer level cap increases. The 101-105 HA mobs were based on TDS mob values, but then we had TBM and EoK, both of which increased player power significantly, still at 105. At that point there's a huge power gap between someone who levels through 105 to 106 and someone who acquired three expansions worth of power gains (especially from EoK AAs) at 105.

My guess is the devs aren't happy that the system isn't getting used to its full potential either, but there are very valid reasons (and a lot of player complaints) that prompted them being capped.

There was a major uproar when they continued scaling past the expansion content was introduced in. Apparently far more players did NOT want scaling to continue then did want it.

You also have to realize is there are players who don't get content done in an expansion and will go back to do it when it is easier (because it doesn't continue scaling). This is actually important when groups much harder to get for old content and people rely on moloing it.

But yeah DBG agreed with you then faced a lot of backlash and reversed things so that heroics don't just continue scaling. Also seems folks didn't want to do old content at current difficulty levels for zero in useful gear upgrades.

There were ways to please both sides that they ignored. Let the player choose the level of content for the heroic they do. Example if you want to do it at its original level let the group leader when he gets the task choose that if you want it to scale to your level let him choose that. The way they did it now makes all the resources they spent developing the entire system a waste.

Part of it is they wan't people in newer content, Dead hills can't be the solution from level 90 to level 285.

Heroic content makes the content available to a larger level range but it doesn't need to be an all inclusive thing.
  12. Kinadorm Augur

The way it is now makes the content available to more people. When they scaled to max level not everyone could do the HA's. The rewards also did not scale up so it would be hard to find a group that actually wanted to go back and do old HA's that are as difficult as new content but give outdated rewards.

Every level cap increase where we have failed to ensure that the difficulty of HA NPCs that scale to PC level approximates what an equivalently leveled NPC of the same era would be in a static zone, we have unintentionally created a hot spot for RvR.

Having HAs scale in rewards and difficulty forever doesn't create more content options.
When a single scaling mission is perceived as the most efficient way to play EverQuest, the result is generally the exact opposite.
