Being hopeful but, Agnarr could use some fresh blood.

    modern eq is trash, sorry.

edit: I feel like elaborating a bit on this. Imagine it like this - classic eq is nostalgic, fun, immersive, and used to be challenging. It's still challenging in some ways compared to modern games so you want to go back and play it. Obviously since it's out of era many things are messed up due to player knowledge and balance issues.

Modern eq on the other hand isn't even worth considering a video game. Classic eq might not live up to what it was before, but current eq is unplayable trash in comparison. i'd rather play wow or elder scrolls.

Not sure what guilds you're referring to but my guild doesn't require any attendance or playtime... I don't think any current guilds on Agnarr do. It's all fun and friendly here.

Before you edited your post it made it seem like you probably know nothing about modern EQ.

After you edited your post it made it obvious that you definitely know nothing about modern EQ.

I've been to zones made after 2007 and they just don't look or feel good. Why would I want to play those expansions?

So the extent of your experience you are basing a entire theory of modern EQ being terrible is that you visited a zone, and it didn't feel good? Wow everyone should definitely take your opinion as gospel since its so extensive and complete!

I once had a layover in Germany. The airport was unfamiliar to me which made me uncomfortable. So now that I'm an expert regarding all things related to Germany, I can use my wealth of knowledge to insist that all of Germany (edit: perhaps all of Europe?) is bad, and I have no idea why anyone would want to live there or visit.

I played in 2009 and leveled a brand new mage from scratch. I didn't like how no one was grouping anymore or there were no corpse runs, but I played anyways because there was no alternative at the time and I wanted to play eq. I was still addicted to leveling and got to about level 70, grinding out a ton of AA in splitpaw and even buying underfoot. When I got to the secrets of faydwer content and people were turning in these beetles over and over again, I realized it wasn't even close to original eq. It didn't feel fun or interesting in any way. so I didn't play anymore.

I found p99 in 2012 and played ragefire when it came out as well and rolled on most tlp for a bit. I had never done many zones like kaesora, sol b, .dalnir etc but they quickly became some of my favorite zones, despite NEVER having any past experiences for them. Now I have nostalgia for things I did on p99, in 2013 and even more recently just a couple years ago. How can it be that old zones that I just went to for the first time are some of my favorite yet I still remember one from 10 years ago badly?

You obviously did not play back in 99-00 or have just forgotten everything related to Runneye Warbeads, orc scalps, Crushbone Shoulderpads, etc, etc. Turn in quests were all the rage even back then.

"look at this other thing that you did in 1999, see, you shouldn't like this version of the game either" You should know yourself that you're taking both situations out of context in order to win an argument. The only thing that actually matters is what is enjoyable to play.

His memory and experiences seem to be very selective. Basically whatever straws he can grasp at to reinforce his cognitive bias of "Old EQ good. New EQ bad."

Go play on live servers then

So the purpose of being on the tlp forums is to cry and beg people to play modern eq?
  15. SunDrake Augur

Some players, myself included, play both.
  16. SunDrake Augur

Live EQ doesn't have to beg for players, by the way. That's a TLP server thing. If you like EQ, are active, and are reasonably skilled, you will end up playing contemporary EQ content.

    - If you like EQ
    okay, I like eq

    -are active
    okay, I'm active

    -are reasonably skilled
    okay, I'm reasonably skilled

-you will end up playing contemporary EQ content
    ????

    Nice logic.

Yeah. I thought they made leveling too fast on Agnarr. Obviously on a server that's going to be locked at some point, it's supposed to be about the journey. Players being able to fly through the levels to max out characters so fast was a bad idea.

I'm not saying that's why the server is failing, but it contributed to it, made it happen faster.

    This x1000.

I did give later expansions a chance. They are generally a dreary, uninspiring place to visit. Very cookie cutter. Ugly and uninteresting.

I also found that the expansions were designed in such a way as to make them casual/returning player unfriendly. Catered much more to the hard core players. So much emphasis on content that had you doing progressions. If you didn't have a good guild or regular group, it was really tough to keep the pace.

A number of things could be done to help prevent Agnarr from dying IMO. I don’t expect it to boom again but maintaining a stable low population would be nice. Burnout on the content is partly to blame, but for anyone that would only play on Agnarr it becomes really difficult to justify multiple subs, to box due to the low population, to really only play a few hours a couple days a week. Some of these things would just add better access to content in a low population server.

    In no particular order:
    1. Make Agnarr Free-to-Play. It could be promoted as a free and casual intro to classic TLPs. Maybe allow transfers to other TLPs once they unlock OoW (or whenever).
    2. Add the good store mounts back in to recoup some of the sub money. Flag them as 12 (or however many) months after LDoN unlocks if needed. The Bazaar horses are garbage compared to the store wolves so there is incentive to continue to buy them on alts.
    3. Remove truebox so that boxing isn’t such a physical hassle that requires so much hardware.
    4. Remove Sol Ro and Vex Thal keys at 65. Or better yet, make them flag by account rather than character.
    5. Remove MOTM. This has really run its course on this server.
    6. Bring back the limited time pre-nerf items (Guise, Fungus Staff, Circlet of Shadow, maybe even Mana Stone?) in some form (e.g. ultra-rare drop, seasonal drop, casino, etc.).
    7. Add in a separate AoC for pre-awoken Sleeper with all the pre-wake drop tables.

At this stage in the economy I don’t think there’s much threat of bots or mass boxers coming in because the market isn’t going to be there for them. On the other hand, while there is some baseline interest in the server, it’s hard to justify the cost to play casually, especially if it’s only for operating cost with virtually no dev resources.
