{Devs} Rain of Fear Release schedule on Phinigel

Bottom line, just because the lead dev says how something is supposed to work on the TLP's, you can't actually be confident he is correct. It happens all the time--wrong information in faq's, wrong information about expansion releases, wrong information about the voting system, and on and on.

This is not meant to be criticism. There are so many details that go into Everquest, and the TLP's in particular, that it doesn't surprise me at all that they can't keep track of everything with 100% accuracy.

The players aren't always right either, but it might behoove the devs to pay attention when we tell them, "We have good reason to believe you are wrong about this." Especially those with a proven track record.

He said working as intended and cited it’s reduced schedule for TLPs, so I’d assume no (as annoying as that may be).

This seems like a poor design for Phinny (or any other server) and especially Selos. It made sense for Fippy. It does not here. Please revisit this.

6 MONTH TLPS not designed for us

Doesn't make any more sense for Fippy than it does now for Phinny. The purpose of delayed release expansions on live was because the devs couldn't get it all done up front. The content literally did not exist yet to release. That is not the case any more obviously, and there is no purpose to tiered releases of content on any of the TLP's, ever.

Even if they wanted to provide a solution for Phinny, at this point it is too late. By the time they patch it in, you'll have the content anyway.

That effectively means that we will not be able to buy anything with T4 currency... This is ridiculously unacceptable.

Also can you please put Falmonius in game in PoK, or am I to believe that T1 mercenary quests were not supposed to be able to be completed until T3 / T4 unlocked as well...
  8. Ngreth Thergn Developer

Can you give more why. I want data for the conversation that more than "I want it all now"

You still have 10 weeks of time on T3, and 8 weeks of time on T4. It keeps to the spirit if the HUGE delay that live had, without negating the ability to do content.
  9. Catashe Augur

Thats part of the point with only 8 weeks, guilds need time to learn the raids and beat them.. 8 weeks is hardly any time to actually farm any kind of gear.. Its like VoA all over again, the sheer amount of book clicks you needed to even try to beat the end game of the content... Its simply all these expansions were releases the devs with a year in mind that people will have to kill content and unlock it at their own pace... There really is no "at their own pace" on a TLP server

This ruleset was based on Fippy? If so, they had to clear all the content before the server moved on. Here we do not. I get where you are coming from. The server moves on either way. If it was going to be this was it would have been nice to have a heads up. A lot of us took off from work ect. I really do hope you reconsider though!

Can you please explain why when this was originally brought up the devs were fine with it all releasing at the same time and even told us that *SHOULD* happen, then when it doesn't, you flip the script and all of the sudden its "working as intended" and "in the spirit of live"?

Please don't treat paying customers as if we are children and cannot look at previous posts made by devs. If you guys are busy with the new xpac and don't have time to mess with it, just say that.

In the spirit of progression, any expansion that TLP approaches with staggered tiers, should be unlocked upon defeating the prior tier boss (King Xorbb for T2, Luclin for T3), OR once enough time has elapsed, as listed above. This will resolve any issues for speed servers in the future as well.

VoA was by far the most intensive gate locked expansion to date, even with the improved keying, it will take a non-expedited lockout server about 2.5 weeks to see the end content -- half of that on Selo's for instance. 4 weeks is far too long to see the end content.

While not as important as accessibility to all the content, the portal rings should be a community event as well.

On a related note, in our testing on the T2 Velishan event, it was not killable because Velishan was not properly rotating the Scales. We'll take a closer look tonight, but if it's changed to the full tier requirements, keep that in mind.

^^^This was designed for a 6 month unlock Ngreth not for phinny or any of the faster unlocks we wont even barely have any t4 loot and the currency will be useless to us as well

There is no way to justify the "spirit" of a huge delay at this point in a TLP. Phinny is basically a live server now on a compressed timeline, with very little to no compensation mechanics in play to make that easier. To be blunt, we need those 4 weeks of gear to keep up with the increasingly demanding raids and pace of the server. 2 month expansions are going to be brutal, at some point even the most dedicated are going to struggle to keep up.

We desperately need dev attention to things like currency, exp rate, extending the time spent in non-level cap increase expansions, and content availability. You can't just keep ignoring us forever and hoping the problem goes away, because you've now committed to two newer servers (selo and miragul, regardless of the doa status of miragul) that will be in these eras before too much longer.

Why should it not have the original spirit of EQ? The TLP is intended to be a faster journey through EQ as it was launched. It seems fitting there should still be a delay for Phinny as Ngreth stated. And his response about looking at it for Selo is appropriate since obviously the goal and way that server works is not compatible with this.

Are people not allowed to change their minds? It's this type of attack that leads to the devs communicating less with us instead of more. One of the biggest fears for a dev communicating with the user base is that anything they say will be taken as gospel and written in stone. Which you are obviously doing here.

There’s (what I believe to be) a bug with that raid where certain things strip his scales buff causing him to go assblaster mode over and over. Experienced it a few times farming for currency, the first time we saw it, it looked like wizard staff clicky line overwrote the scales buff but haven’t pinpointed the exact cause yet ourselves.

It’s amusing watching him wreck fully raid geared 110’s, though! But should still be technically killable.

In the vast majority of prior expansions (Minus having to wait for a cycle in HoT and several more VoA), guilds were able to freely farm the end content as they reached it based on how well guilds progressed.

Progression for most of us is a journey and experience down memory lane in the history of this game. Artificially gating expansion content further behind a time lock substantially diminishes the value of that.

There were many events/general content in EQ's history that were not launched with the respective intended launches. They were not limited on TLP launches based on that delay. There is no reason to time throttle content inside an expansion at this magnitude -- it's unprecedented compared to prior expansions here on TLP.

The right approach here, that would quell the need for any stand alone solutions in the future for other expedited TLP servers, is once the gated content is defeated in any said expansion, the subsequent tier in that expansion becomes available. There should not be a time lock within a time lock on an expedited server -- this should apply to the time locked expansions such as RoF, COTF, and any further ones that may be tiered.

The TLP community may be divided on on many subjects, I'm quite certain the vast majority will agree on the points above. I hope the team makes the right decision here, and makes it quickly.

We tried once with no debuffs, the same symptoms persisted. We'll try a few more things on our next run -- definitely something off with that raid!
