Enumerated SPA list

    Just to add on to that, there have never been SPAs that affect mod2 stats or heroic stats.
    Those have always come from items.

    Speaking of shielding (spell/melee/DoT). When it was introduced, first it made a huge immediate difference between those who raided Anguish and those who didn't - mitigating 35% of the damage is no joke. But then it immediately became a standard, everybody had it.

    Now it's been rolled into the Heroic stats, but not much changed - everybody still mitigates at least 35%. All it does now is create tuning issues: irrelevant raid AEs that look decently big, except for the designer forgetting how much damage the players mitigate; mercs getting annihilated by basepop AEs that only 'tickle' players; etc etc.

    When everybody has it - what's the point? Why not just remove that 35%?

    Because, at this point, its been around so long that they would have to re-tune years worth of expansions. Better to just assume it's the value and adjust accordingly going forward.

    Exactly, they design the AoE and spells with that value in mind, all those stats should just be something you click to gain and move on, hell they could change it to 90% spell shield and new expansions would just take all that into consideration and the AoEs would just be that much better. Only drawback would be how easy farming old content would be. I don't think that's a bad thing since the number one gripe is people want old rank 3 spells and the achievements from past expansions. Why not dumb it down so 12 people can get something from an expansion 3 years old. Or better yet if I return and get 60% spell shield I can go back and farm all the missions from other expansions with a merc in god mode to catch up in a reasonable time frame. When a new expansion comes out past content should be totally obsolete to a player with current raid items.

    It's the same game over and over each year, everything gets a % bump and we just fight diffrent graphics and have diffrent zones.

    And mercs do have spell shielding.

    Same amount as players? They seem to take a whole lot more damage from trash AE in TBL than players, and they have a comparable amount of hp now after the tuning passes.

    A naked level 110 merc has 45 hSta and hInt/hWis so they should have the baseline of 35% to all three types of shielding, assuming they get the same early math as players. With vigilant gear, a merc has 957 in each heroic, so they should have 37% shielding.

    This :) and I was able to detect that 2% difference mentioned above with some testing.

    We've spoken on this very topic at multiple GDC conferences. :)

    In retrospect, those percentage based effects should have scaled better and/or the team should have used that design space more carefully.

    The current state of affairs, where we assume that all characters have these effects and design around them, isn't ideal, but removing them is risky and touches a whole lot of content.

    Wish you took that approach to lots of other things rather than just nerfing things out of the blue after 10, 15, 20 years....

    Not everything, some things are broken, but some things most certainly aren't, and there has been a tendency the past 3-4 years to break things in order to make something "new" work "better".
