seems like most topics and issues from 3-4 years ago are still very true today, to the point you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference of when they were posted if you didn't look at the actual date of the thread.

A few years ago, one of the devs added an invisible debuff to all pets. It greatly decreased the HP, AC, and Attack values of pets. The debuff was quite severe, the starting pets seemed to lose about 1/2 their HPs and would die to even con mobs very quickly. Before the debuff, they could solo them.

However, this debuff slowly fades as each expansion is released and is completely removed when either Shadows of Luclin or PoP hits. This means the epic pet will slowly return to it's full glory as each expansion is released. I know that does not help us in Kunark, but it gets a pretty big jump back to normal in Scars of Velious. As the HPs slowly return to normal, the self 50 point DS starts to be more effective. With the AC part of the debuff, it made the HP the pets did have left less effective also. It was pretty heavy hit to all pets, and seemed to be a reaction to many boxers that were running around with four mages in their box groups.

As for the aggro issue, it is a result of the high DPS procs. A stun + 84 damage (stun has no level limit) and a 143 proc (that procs a lot). These two procs will build up aggro very quickly.

One thing that really does need to be removed, when fighting Marked bosses, is the mechanic that now adds the pets hate to the casters hate. When fighting bosses with mark, pet casters have a big issue nuking and sending in a pet. This issue is compounded when using an epic pet, because the stuns build up aggro quickly. Marked bosses will ignore pets as targets, so when the mage builds up enough aggro, because of the addition of the pets aggro to their own, the magician will get summoned and killed.

On live servers: Epic pet = 4000 hp, level 49, hits up to 81 damage, stun + 84, and 146 dd proc.

In Kunark with invisible debuff Epic Pet = 2400 hp

    That's a 40% reduction!

If I had to guess, I would say it works out to something like:

    Classic 50% debuff
    Kunark 40% debuff
    SoV: 30% debuff
    SoL: 20% debuff
    PoP: gone

    This is to all pets.

You could test this buy dueling - nuke the pet and see what % the nuke takes the pet down to.

    Copy to test and repeat.
