How about just specify the day that an expansion will unlock, but not a time. Then just randomly open things up. That way, we don't have to spend unknown hours upon hours waiting for things to stabilize.

Yeah, people can say DBG can't do anything but announcing a specific time just invites this lag and chaos. Plus you should really see the mass of people actually sitting at a zone entrance trying to port in it's sad and it's a waste of everyone's time.

I'm no technical expert, maybe there are/aren't options on that front but this is the least DBG can do and the most obvious one.

Or.. people could just not be insane for the 10th (exaggerated) release of a 15+ year old expansion.

No, this is in every game ever that has a crowded launch. It's on the game people to do something about it.

Or... you just sit in front of a PoK book that is not yet there and wait until it appears. Worked for my Iksar in FoB.

Your solution to overwhelming desire to do something is to gate it so that a bulk of the customers do not get to do it as they might have planned? What an absolutely wretched suggestion. People want to play new expansions as they release, many wanting to schedule around it, much like when a new tlp server itself launches.

People do, but the percentage is small. the cutting edge do need their immediate fix, but the majority is at work or can wait, etc.

Plenty of non cutting edge pack new content releases - its why the lag is there. These less hardcore or even mostly casual folks who wamt to jump into the launched content are precisely the people boned by this ridiculous no-announcement idea, since the hardcores will just "camp the spawn window" and/or batphone it.
