Threads of Potential vs Boon of the Seeress

Boon of the Seeress (Additional Damage to Spells:500), is what I have used since TBM. I am hearing that the Threads of Potential (Increase Spell Damage v2 [After Crit] by 3000) is higher. Has anyone parsed this out? I know that the Boon can crit (I'm unsure of how much), where as the ToP is just +3k.
  2. Sancus Augur

Boon of the Seeress cannnot crit, it uses SPA 286 and therefore adds just 500 flat damage. Boon of the Seeress adds to procs (min level 254, max mana 0), while Threads of Potential adds to nukes (min mana 100).

It might help to add more details. There's also Runed Belt of Boromas if you have access to it, and the benefit of each depends on your class, items, and ADPS/normal situation.

Two different animals and depends on what you want to add damage to. Boon benefits weapon procs (or procs from casting spells) and instant no mana cost AAs. Threads is a flat +3k to your damage spells that cost mana.

On this topic Forum-Quest Captain Sancus, have you parsed the new 3k Thread focus against boromas’ corruption proc? My mageling Sancusjr wants to know!

Something I posted in guild forum:-

I had a little play today with Boon of the Seeress belt.

In a 5 min session my chanter cast the following on a combat dummy.

/G -vs- Combat Dummy Beza - Spells Cast By: Feitizo: 67
    -- Mindslash Rk. II: 23 + 8 twincasts
    -- Mindsunder Rk. II: 23 + 9 twincasts
    -- Psychic Appropriation Rk. II: 16 + 8 twincasts
-- Received Chromatic Haze Proc: 7
    -- Dichotomic Reinforcement: 5

    Thats a total of 62 nukes + 25 twincasts = 87 casts in total

Now my chanter has 2 disease procs on 1H, Tome of Obulus and kept Black Wolf, Mana Repetition & Dicho running. During this period he proc'd:-

    - Druid Aura - 88 procs
    - Dicho - 32 procs
    - Mana Repetition - 128 procs
    - Disease - 99 procs (I have 2 of them)
    - Obulus - 43... these are not boosted [IMG]

The belt boosted 347 procs which matches the above procs minus Tome of Obulus.

    So extra damage from belt = 347 x 500 = 173.5k in total

Now if I had the Threads of Potential belt on that would have been = 87 casts x 3k = 261k in total

In a group Threads of Potential looks the better belt (not by a lot) but in a raid with bard songs and potions I can easily see the proc count getting high enough to put Boon of the Seeress on top (especially if you have a proc aug in range)

Just to muddy the waters a little more.

Threads of Potential seems to work with DoTs (not tested all).

Each tick you will see 3k/Duration extra damage (i.e. if Dot duration = 10, then 3000/10 = 300 extra damage each tick).

If the DoT runs full duration then you will see extra damage i.e. with AAs/gear the tick tick dot lasts 15 ticks so total extra damage from belt = 15x300 = 4500.

I'm personally going to keep using Runed Belt of Boromas, but the answer is a bit more complicated.

Threads does not scale with ADPS, whereas Runed Belt of Boromas does. Specifically, Runed Belt of Boromas benefits from crit chance, crit damage, spell damage, and Mana Burn. That means if you're running in raids with high crit chance/crit damage, Runed Belt of Boromas pulls ahead.

In groups or raids in which you don't have much ADPS, Threads pulls ahead. It also pulls ahead a bit more with rains, since it adds to all 3 lines (or 4 if AEing).

Ultimately you're splitting tenths of a percent either way. If I was a group Mage I'd go with Threads, as a raiding Mage I'm sticking with Runed Belt of Boromas. My main goal is to steal Mana Burn procs, since otherwise they're effectively very similar.

I don't have Enchanter support anywhere near done but you can estimate the example a couple posts up pretty well. With group gear 1h+dps aug, tome, and assuming no ranged dps aug and having enc/druid auras and dicho like mentioned. Plus I added arcane ballad for some extra bard procs. It came to 1.81 procs per second or 2.5 (2.79 with proc belt) if twincasting.

    Seers: https://goo.gl/nsmcco (98,777.79 dps)
    Threads: https://goo.gl/Ds963P (98,977.00)
    Proc: https://goo.gl/yBNsbH (99,165.39)

Then add twincast, auspice, iog, and glyph to get a better idea for how the proc scales.

    Seers: https://goo.gl/kcNhFK (270,420.23)
    Threads: https://goo.gl/uPpsnW (271,074.88)
    Proc: https://goo.gl/GvnKnW (273,024.88)

And just doing this cause I'm bored waiting for raids.

Yeah, I was thinking Sympathetic force of corruption vs Threads of potential. So thanks for the correction. Confusing my alt melee's belt. When a better sympathetic one comes out, I will upgrade it.

On the last Queen raid I wore a Runed Belt I parsed the damage from procs and came up with the following :-
    [IMG]

So with Enc/Bard/Druid adps the belt was critting for up to 30k and although it did 545k total damage my Delzor & Tome were of much more benefit.

Now if I had been wearing a belt with a Threads of Potential I would have done ~470k extra damage. That's based on 3k for each nuke (except wrath), 3k for each hit by an AE and 187-750 for each DoT tick (each DoT receives diff benefit depending on duration). I've not taken into account twincast DoTs as I believe they receive double benefit from threads.

(really need to work out how to do tables)

I did a Cactus-mission(pre-tune) with S33k3r(15 sec!! burn on named), where it looked like my corruption belt was proccing for 100k or something like that. I have no clue what ADPS was running at the time(I did fire a manaburn though), and I forgot to save the parse.

I haven't been able to replicate belt-procs like that ever since... could be some druid-plant-vulnerability related stuff S33k3r did(no clue about druid-stuff)?
  13. kizant Augur

The corruption belt is MUCH better for wizards because we have Fury of the Gods that essentially turns it into a 4845 damage proc and the crit damage goes up with FD and 2nd spire. It's like Sancus said though. If there's zero adps the Threads belt is a tiny bit better. Add black wolf and it's basically the same or the proc wins a little. Then stack crit rate, crit damage, fury of the gods, etc and it gets a big lead.

I could see your belt hitting for 72k max :D , in fact you managed 6 crits procs @ an average of 68k. I rarely look at other's damage in any detail but that was an eye-opener.

I think the "small" corruption procs was from https://items.eqresource.com/items.php?id=86160
and that the 100k hits was from the belt, but im not really sure now... no clue what else they could be...

Can't remember if I was using a hedgewizard-brew too, but they are disease...
  16. Brohg Augur

nothing on those lines says they're corruption. probably your staff's base 9k proc generated the 100s

  18. Derka Power Ranger

What was your group make up? The 100k ones were most likely from the Tome if mana burn was up.
  19. kizant Augur

The doube 102585 was probably a twinproc for whatever it was. Plus keep in mind that manaburn increases the damage of your procs quite a bit. And did you have any auras or enchanter dicho? Dicho can proc really high. Cryomancy procs get up there too.
  20. Derka Power Ranger

Wouldn't the tome be 4000+3900=7900. 7900x2=15800. 15800x5 =79000. 79000+20400=99400. Then add some other jazz in to get over 100?
