Research Changes in upcoming patch

    RadarX, serious questions here...

What is your plan to keep research a viable tradeskill? You're basically destroying the skill with this decision to nerf research so stuff cannot be researched until 3 expansions later. Congrats on destroying the viability of a tradeskill in the game completely. So...what is DBG's answer to make this skill still viable considering it is a necessary evil at some point. Players will be forced to level a tradeskill to progress on a raid (GoD) that they cannot even use to make worth while current or recent era spells. This is an expensive tradeskill and you've ruined its ability to even break even on it.

Question 2. I don't have a dog in this race, but many people have spent hundreds of thousands of platinum, knowingly or unknowingly, on these spells/tomes. You'll be severely disrupting the servers economy as I'm sure yesterday hundreds of krono and millions of platinum went into these tomes and spells. What's your plan to reimburse your customers for their lost tome and efforts at your mishandling of the situation? It is hardly fair you remove something someone spent months of platinum farming on.

Will be interesting to see how it goes. The updated / changed patch notes from test to live only mentioning future changes lead a lot of people / guilds to rush into making or buying these before they got disabled. The patch message alone shot the costs to 10x as much.

    @Crackers

Sorry to say but if people bought tomes or spells that they know are not supposed to exist yet... they should have known better, and not thought it was a clever sideway, but a bug (as it is).

Its the same situation for the defiant gear. Many people purchased defiant armor hoping they could keep it before it was fixed and was anyone was reimbursed in that situation?

You assume everyone knew they weren't allowed. It's still a legitimate question. They're screwing with the games economy, and they're especially screwing with the little guy who spent his life savings on a tome/spell. In the past they've said "What is done is done" and left it because they didn't want to mess with those kinds of things. Now they're screwing with that dynamic, and I think it's fair to ask what they plan to do to resolve it with the player base.

That was gotten through an exploit. Don discs arent the first non cheat out of era item on the server.

You could make an argument for individuals that bought the level 56 Knight Discs (were there others?) but anyone that purchased a level 61 Disc when the level cap is currently 60 knows full well it's out of era content and they are gambling their plat on keeping it.

Right? When it was their money (Out of ear mounts) they'd rather let the imbalance go than issue a refund. When it's players in game money and effort, they're far less considerate. Hence why I'm asking the question.

Right, and while most of us get that impression. There is a tendency by daybreak to not give enough information and communicate ineffectively with the player base.

RadarX is the community relations representative, and rarely do we get more than a vague response unless a topic blows up.

When he says something ONLY applies to spells, when people are assuming it will apply to both spells AND tomes... we need a clarification.

A huge amount of money was wasted by a lot of players since the updated live patch notes. If people were told either in the other threads or in the patch notes that they were being removed also, this wouldnt of happened.

While the people paying 13-15k for discs on phin (11.5k krono cost) spent a lot of money the people/guild banks paying 100k+(8-10+ krono) for them after the patch note error / lack of communication should be upset. The threads were untouched for weeks.

People who bought stuff last night were purchasing after it was published that they would be removing the items.

The rush and mega costs that exploded last night were people knowingly trying to get in before an impending item removal, basically trying to abuse something that having would be an 'exploit' after the patch.

One turn-in and praying to RNGeezus, yikes... "Buzz, your mechanic! woof."

But hey, hashtag that's classic!! Just like picks and instances and key rings and all the spells I made out of era in Kunark that we all kept and mounts giving stats and /buyer and pets and melee augs and bonus damage and spell coefficients and account to account transfers and XP potions and name changes and mobs leashing and motms and Krono and increased key piece drop rates and Echo of Seb and Trakanon in general and yes I am a smidge tilted if you couldn't tell but why should we be able to make spells when they're current with an otherwise garbage tradeskill, right?!

They never said they would be removing the items prior to last night. They said they would be nerfing the ability to research new ones.

This is all that was said in a updated patch note. Nothing on forums in weeks. :

    - Many Spell Research recipes are now restricted to an expansion at least three expansions after the spell itself is available.

P.S. Players can still buy store mounts with out of era 6 hour hp/mana/ac bonuses

The tomes specifically... let's point out the obvious, people rushed to make the DoN tomes because they knew the next day, they wouldn't have a chance. That they wouldn't be available for several expansions.

So they rushed to take advantage of something they wouldn't have access to for months for profit.

They were knowingly attempting to make themselves an advantage ahead of an impending nerf.

Whether they thought they could keep them or not, they were hoping to keep an out of era ability for personal gain. They were attempting to exploit, and it backfired. Same as all the people who claimed Defiant gear once it was leaked how to get around it.
  15. Tudadar Augur

I would think they were hoping to keep an out of era item so they wouldnt be the scrub in their guilds/groups who didnt have one when everyone else did. Lots of people missed out on snow pumas. If the cheap tiger mounts never came out they might still not have the bonuses.

Im sure shamans that didnt have infusion of spirit on fippy/vulak when others did werent thrilled.

There are no plans for any type of reimbursement. We're letting folks know as far in advance as possible this will be removed in the near future.

The mass majority of you guys know EverQuest very well and you know what is in era and what isn't. Items which are out of era should be pursued at your own risk.
Zanarnar, jagarr, fransisco and 2 others like this.

    Parceled? ;)

I assume that just like the claimgate people who abused this will be getting banned/suspended? Its out of era content that people knowingly abused with in game mechanics
  19. Baldur Augur

Definitely don't forget parcel and reclaim. Lots of people will be deleting a tome in hopes of using a reclamation token to get it back I'm sure.

These people were trying to cash in / exploit a bug and oversight, yet didn't consider that the tomes themselves would be removed. It's their own fault, and they should stop trying to use bugs to exploit the economy themselves or to get ahead of the rest of the server by abusing exploits.

I was on for this show last night, saw people paying 50k for a scroll and thinking that it was going to be hilarious when SOE actually removed the tomes themselves. Here we are.
