So, I have this issue that I know from googling alot of people have had, but I found fixes for AMD users only, and the problems I'm getting are a bit different as well. I'm not sure if this is the correct way to submit a support ticket but I'll try and edit out anything unecessary and add whatever information is needed as requested if I get replies. So the problems I have are after logging in, I can connect to a server fine, but as I get to the character selection screen, it is terribly sped up, and I cannot even click anything, let alone create a character or log into the actual game. I can however log out from the server (by pressing escape) so the issue is not crashing, as the animations are ongoing as well, rather some sort of unresponsiveness. I'm moderately computer-savvy and willing to try any fix aside from manually editing BIOs on every startup just to play EQ. Really hope I can find a fix for this as I've been wanting to get back into EQ again! Thanks in advance
A ticket you would put into support itself, as the forums are meant for player to player support. Need system info, prefer the dxdiag info Windows key +R, type in dxdiag, save as file, copy/paste the beginning to just pass the sound card info. But if your Intel system is a newer system that allows the FSB to be changed and it is setting at a higher level, that FSB would need to be lowered. There has been two players running an Intel with a motherboard that had an adjustable FSB, and reducing the FSB to a normal level worked for them. Depending on motherboard and how FSB multiplier is set, default could be 100mhz/400mhz. Below is one of the players running an Intel that had the issue with a newer system and reset to default (100mhz). There is another where a player had a duo core (much older system), his FSB base was 400mhz. https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq...lect-screen-isnt-working.218419/#post-3180368 This patch DBG said they put in a fix for systems that have issues with EQ due to "Turbo" boost, but afaik, that did not fixed the FSB/HT frequency/BCKL threshold issue that breaks EQ. Unlike AMD, which breaks beyond 4.2ghz w/200mhz, Intel cpu running with a base 100mhz (again, depends on motherboard setup) will take any type of overclocking on the CPU multiplier. I currently run my Intel i5-3570K at 4.6ghz with no issue with EQ. I have located a software OC tool from Intel. Doing a quick view of it, it does allow you to set profiles for it and pair it off with an app, in a similar manner that AMD Overdrive works. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us...p-boards-software-extreme-tuning-utility.html

My CPU is overclocked from 2.7ghz to 3.5ghz, though it's been many years so I can't remember exactly what the settings are, though I can look it up for sure.
Edit button is weird so I'll just post again. I checked out the link for the overclocking software, but sadly it does not seem to be available for Windows XP, which I am running at the moment. Edit: ah, now I figured out how it works. i realized I have some programs that I initially used for overclocking. And here is a screenshot of my settings. This stuff isn't exactly fresh in my mind but I'm sure you will be able to better determine what I would need to change in order to make things work http://postimg.org/image/a57graamj/
I couldnt sleep .. from some of the info I located, to OC that CPU, the both the CPU multiplier AND the bus speed had to be changed. It is the change in bus speed that appears to be causing the issue. Just a sample of some of the OC on that CPU. http://www.overclock.net/t/1115369/intel-pentium-e5400-overclocking-guide
OK, thank you again for your assistance. So, I figured out I'm currently running my CPU at (all info available in picture with link in above post) 3.5ghz with a 333.0mhz Bus speed with a 10.5x multiplier. I have a Rated FSB of 1332mhz edit: had to search to find out what the difference between Rated FSB and FSB speed was "Rated FSB" is always "Bus Speed" x 4, because the Front Side Bus is "quad-pumped" meaning there are 4 data transfers for each tick of the bus clock. And, "Core Speed" = "Bus Speed" x Multiplier. Anyway the stock FSB speed setting for my CPU is 800mhz. So I guess the solution would just be to revert to stock settings for when I play EQ, although I'm not sure what program I could use for that. If you know of any that have profile setups for windows XP that'd be great because manually changing it in BIOS every time is waay too much work.
Okay, so the E5400 default is cpu multiplier 13.5 x 200mhz (800/4) vs the OC version of 10.5 x 333.33mhz (1333.32/4). There is SetFSB. There is a freeware version but the newest ones are shareware. This appears to only change the FSB so leaving multiplier at 10.5x200mhz = 2.1ghz Another would be Sytool but none of them appears to have any type of profile settings.
I too have a problem at the character log in screen and have an intel cpu. Launcher works great , connect fine ,but when I get to the character log in screen my toons look like they're on crack . Everything is sped up. My toons are twitching , the torches are puffing smoke out of control. The only way to get out of that window is to close it , you cant "quit" ... I'll add my dxdiag info. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 8/20/2015, 10:19:25 Machine name: ADMIN-PC Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.150525-0603) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Dell Inc. Vexdjinn, your system is not overclocked in anyway, is it? Control Panel, Power Options, set to High Performance
I am pushing out an update to the Test server right now that will hopefully fix this issue. Please test it and let me know whether it works or doesn't for you.
Hludwolf, which issue will this resolve, as there are two different noted here. The original post is due to overclocking involving primarily the FSB. The 2nd poster's system is not overclocked nor does it have turbo abilities. Thanks
Sweet!!! Wait, you cant do that. My post count will slow down!!! There will be some happy players, esp the AMD/Intel players newer systems and at least one player using an older Intel system that is OC.
I look forward to this update. (AMD FX-8350 owner, that would like to mess around with OC'ing but hasn't because of this issue.)
Everything works fine for me on the test server without having made any changes to my CPU or system overall. I will now be accepting praise for being the catalyst to fixing this decade old problem /s. But really, that's amazing! No problems at all. Can't wait for this to go live so I can finally play. Great work!
So far so good on the latest hotfix with my maxed out 9590 too so you know. No more turbo issues yet, or weird slowdowns either. Thanks for putting all that time in!
I've been having terrible raid lag since the patch.Gameruns great until other people start casting and my fps drops to 1.5 on a high end system. Ranmemtests, cpu tests andgpu tests. Runs great in other games.
