So I know back in the day I used to see bards with music notes on their incoming messages as well as other classes using a form of emoji. Also people changing the color of the mob name to purple. I read you can even change your message to Orange if instead of an item you use an achievement as a target.vIt's been a long time since I have seen any of this and was curious if your still able to do it ingame. I have a bard I fell in love with and would love to put music notes in my pulling and mez messages. I also found bombs and skulls I think would be neat to use. I have tried to research it thoroughly the past two days but all of the information I find is old forum posts dating to the mid 2000's. If it's still able to be done could someone make a short write up here for those of us who would like to learn an old craft?

You could change the colour of text as it appears to you but since the colour of text as it appears to someone else is actually set on their computer they are only going to see the colours they have set.

The color of target names is done by editing the ini files and making it into a pseudo link (item, achievement, etc.).
  5. Koryu Professional Roadkill

I think Corwyhn means that we have the ability to change what color an item link or achievement link will show up as, thus not always purple or orange respectively.
  6. Xianzu_Monk_Tunare Augur

Possibly, but how it read to me was that he was saying that we have absolutely no way to change the color of the messages we send to others

I just want to know how to make music notes appear instead of question marks
  8. Fanra https://everquest.fanra.info

You mean like this: ♪ ♫

Just edit your ini file as per here: http://everquest.fanra.info/wiki/User_Interface#Creating_linkable_.28colored.29_socials

Only instead of using the symbols and numbers, use the Alt Codes.

So, open your ini file with a text editor, and hit Alt-13 (the 13 using the number pad on the keyboard, not the numbers over the letters) for the first musical note I typed ♪. Alt-14 is the second one ♫.

I believe this will work in EQ, as I've seen people (usually bards) use them in EQ.

If you attend certain Guide Events you may see us use the music notes when telling stories from a bard's perspective.

I've found the easiest solution for me is to find your .ini file in your EQ directory. Copy out what you want to do there. For example:

    Code:
    Page2Button1Line1=/pause 45, /say ♪♫♪ I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay! I sleep all night and I work all day. ♪♫♪
Before you save the .ini change the file encoding to UTF-8 and the music notes will actually appear in game. If you fail to change the encoding and try the hotkey then you'll get either question marks, or boxes.

If there is an easier way then I'd love to learn it, but I can confirm the above solution will enable you to get music notes in your EverQuest text, sadly you just have to plan ahead and do a lot of fiddling with your .ini.

What other symbols work? Do any emoticons/emojis work?

If "emojis" worked within Everquest, I cannot think of a faster way to get me to put you on my ignore list.

I could see your point, I would only use a few here and there but some people go way over the top with them.
