Map addon for EQ1?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I'm trying to find a map addon for EQ1. Basically, I'm looking for something that actually shows the maps in the map window (unlike stock, which, at least for me, is only showing Crescent Reach and PoK), similar to EQ2MAP. Does anyone know a good addon for this? Thanks!

Generally, just need to go to mapfiend.net and download the entire map pack and install in the maps subfolder of Everquest or use the gears icon on the patcher to open the Everquest folder.

There are other places to get maps as well but most of them are for the newest expansions (high level).

EDIT: There used to be Atlas mods too, but I haven't seen any current ones for years.

Mapfiend Map Packs Select All Maps and hit the Download button. Or get them from other places, such as http://www.elitegamerslounge.com/home/mapquest/ and others. It’s now best to install in a custom directory under the maps subdirectory of the base EQ directory. For example EQ\maps\mapquest for the elitegamer mapquest sets. If you’re having problems getting maps to install, can check to make sure the folder is not marked Read Only and you have permission to change it. Installations in the Program Files directory often lead to permission problems. If this is the case, you can try taking ownership via the instructions at http://web.archive.org/web/20120414205751/http://www.wintuts.com/Change-permissions-take-ownership for Vista+ Windows OSes.

Click the "all maps" button and then put the files in the Maps folder in your Everquest directory. I hope this helped you!

One of these days, I'm gonna get around to fixing that post, so I can copy / paste and get all the good sources in there. Maybe even the way back machine's link to Rasper's Maps.

Here is a link to EQ Atlas mirror/archive site https://www.eqclassic.de/eqatlas/ for you nostalgia buffs. I still like to use some of them since they are easier to read.

Rasper's HoT maps from way back machine: http://web.archive.org/web/20101015....net/~mathadon/Guides/HoT/Images/HoT_Maps.zip

I used to have at least one other source from when mapfiend went down, but can't find quick. Anyone got any?

    Installing

You need to set the folder to have read and write permissions. Right-click on the maps folder, select Properties. On the first tab, uncheck Read-Only. In Vista, you also need to go to the Security tab, select your user name, click Edit, select your user name on the new list, in the bottom list, uncheck any Deny, and hit Ok, hit Ok.
If that doesn't work, and is often the case when installed to the program files directory, then you may need to take ownership.

I use these maps in many old world zones - I agree they are much easier to read. Sometimes I regret recycling all the binders we had of printed out maps.

Some of the old zones, like Kedge Keep, the Hole and Chardok, can't be visualised properly with a single layer like the in game map viewer. You really need EQAtlas for that.

Speaking of which (Layers). I think the mapfiend map pack comes with my Layer 1 version of the Hole. You go to the separate zone page, there are links to the other layers, but all show up as Layer 1, so you can DL them and rename them to get a complete map, that is shown in layers like EQAtlas maps. Still may need to use Height Filter button on the way to the city area as there are many floors with only a few rooms on each. I think my comments explain which is which on the zone page.

I've been meaning to merge them and re-upload so the full set gets put in Layer 1, just haven't gotten back to working on maps.

    That's a really good idea.

Do you also have some better points of interest files that the standard add-ons?

The Hole version has most, if not all epic mobs, ground spawns, etc. marked. Seems like I labeled the named buildings in the city too. So, yeah it's better than the default. Only thing I didn't like is I left Layer 2 as mostly labels, and only drew the hidden / sunken / etc. areas that clutters up the Layer 1 or 3 maps. I've redone a BoT map the same way, but never finished adding drawings for Teleport Origins and Destination, and never got to redraw Ag'Narrs room (probably was on a lower level Rog to do the drawing SoS.

It was an attempt to fix all the maps with elevation problems, but the newer BoT one from mapfiend has elevations now, so Height Filter works. I redid Droga too with the new locations of mobs and height.

I got a better than default Overthere too, but never uploaded it, 'cause at the time, the game came with it as a Base file and there wasn't the multiple subdirectories option back then. It's what I get for deleting all the maps, and not repatching to see what the game gave you automatically :p

EDIT: Since the separate directories, I've thought about using the Base also, since it won't get overwritten. Two thoughts: One to use Base to draw perspective view of outside zones (see drawing at https://m1.behance.net/rendition/modules/15756427/disp/d286d9142b470a2f7042050163140503.jpg ) and another, and original thought, to use it for a 4th layer for highly vertical zones.

There is something very wrong with the Hole maps. I have re-downloaded from Mapfiend just to be sure, but the entrance does not appear in my maps. I have layer 1,2,3 files for the hole, but the party is off the map. The map seems to start at the pool of water that has a sword in the stone. everything before that is blank, i.e. the tower, castle, massive monstrosities.

Any help would be great as not having maps really blows, especially in the Hole.

Click the link on the post above yours. Don't need the first link, since that's the one you already have. Click on the Layer 2 and 3 links. On those pages click the Layer 1 link and select Save and rename it to the appropriate layer and save it in your maps folder. If you want the labels added, click the Layer 1 link above, and the Layer 2 link on the page and Open it copy the contents and open the previously saved layer 2 and paste what you copied to the end of file and resave it.

It sounds complicated but it is because of how mapfiend converts the uploads. I uploaded it as separate layers, but mapfiend makes each one layer 1 and generates it's own layer 2 from the labels and layer 3 from grid lines. So all 3 layers got split into separate files.

I didn't realize it at first, since it takes them a while to publish uploads, and the current map is most of the zone, except the water entrance (the keyed entrance), so I didn't notice it at first glance. I'll try to fix it, but it will take a while before they get around to publishing it.

EDIT: Recombined the layers into one and let mapfiend sort it out, there way. Will probably be months though before it gets published.
