No real plat sinks in EQ anymore?

2-minute recast massive healing plus cure-everything potions. Requires OOC. Possible vie/HoT recourse.

Designed for the soloist or healer-deficient partial groups against easier mobs or no-merc zones

Red Dragonscale prize bag hustler, hand him 50k, 1 in 50 chance of getting red dragonscales aug, other times you get some other silly thing. I would spend the plat near immediately...

Then what about the tank deficient or dps deficient?
What about a cleric soloing or in a no-merc zone?

They would have to limit what classes could use such a thing or else it greatly favors specific classes.
  4. Everstorm Augur

Hmm, yes, hire a NPC to be a trader for you that takes a cut of the profit.
  5. Wyre Wintermute I'm just a butterly dreaming I'm a man

.02% chance to drop (one try)
18% chance if you have 500k (10 tries)
33% chance if you have up to 1m pp (20 tries)
    55% 2m pp (40 tries)
    95% 7.5m pp (150 tries)
    99.7% 15m pp (300 tries)

Those are the probabilities of getting at least 1 (it drops off quite a bit past 2).

    Just as a visual reference.

So in other words, a really good plat sink.
  7. Wyre Wintermute I'm just a butterly dreaming I'm a man

If they add equally enticing items for other archetypes, yeah.

I was merely trying to illustrate the plat-win amounts. There's always the one person that will pick out that somone can win it first try. While true, it is more likely that the cost will be 2m pp or more.

Most classes already have some sort of viable non-merc solo strategy for easier enemies that relies on damage avoidance or self/pet healing. Potions would intentionally address those gaps, but I think you're referring to classes who can perform HP to resource conversions. Rather than restricting use, I propose that such potions would open the door for improved resource efficiency/regeneration for classes that can't.

havent read the thread so maybe this was suggested already:

put some power sources (better than tradeskill; similar or better than xorbb's caged hatred) on a vendor for a high price, and some 25 and 30 purity augs (30 being much more expensive).

put a hero's forge set that's exclusively vendor bought for a high price

think of the days of travler's boots and tinkerer bags, high priced non-essential vendor items to suck out some plat

If you must have a plat sink, please don't take an approach the nails those of us that aren't rich (ie: high price aug solvents).
  11. Inga Elder

How about secondary bind point type potion?
10k each for bind item, and 5k each for port.

Or expendable Guild Hall Portal Crystal location clicky for 1-10k.
  12. Khat_Nip Meow

A Guild Banner clicky a la Fellowship Registration Insignia-like and/or a separate dedicated Guild Banner portal independent of the regular portal.
    /Priced accordingly.

I think the main problem with using Marcia as a plat sink is that it caters to only the rich... and the rich don't get rich by purchasing nobles for a 10% tax and buying 10 slot backpacks for 10,000,000 plat. Therefore, your intended target market, the 1% who can actually afford this stuff, isn't even going to consider this stuff. Meaning, that you don't attain your intended results of a plat sink.

If you really want a plat sink, you need to target the impulse buyers of EQ. They might not have millions of plat sitting in a bank, but there are lots of them running around, and more importantly, they WILL make questionable purchases.

So how to you cater to them without making everything cheap and easy to get for the rich? Dangle shiny items around (stuff currently on Marcia) and make them rewards in an upgraded casino.

For instance, sell casino tokens for 10,000 plat, which have a 1 in a 1000 chance of winning a jackpot prize (on average you remove 10 million plat for every jackpot). And for the more well-to-do folks, have a high roller token for 100,000 plat that has a 1 in a 100 chance to win.

By implementing something like this, you not only open the door for everyone to get a rare item, you open the door for the target market who will actually spend their plat on item's like this. And of course, there is nothing stopping you from keeping Marcia around for the super rich who suddenly change their minds about wanting to stay rich... But ultimately, I think this would really get you the results you are looking for.

I have an idea...Make a krono type coin, but for station cash. Players must buy those token for real money. Then, they can trade those new tokens for platinum or whatever. :p

My solution for a plat sink.

A revamp of the Marcia merchant.

    1. Clone ALL Marcia's rare items to "No drop" versions.
    2. Randomly put 5 items on a "Mercia the Noble Auctioner" every 48hours.
    3. Let players Bid nobles for those 5 items.
    4. Auction ends every 48hours and winner gets his item sent over the parcel system.
    5. Looser gets his nobles bid sent back after being outbid or end of auction.
    6. Limit bets to once every Hour per char.

1 of the 5 items should be the "ORIGINAL" not a "No drop" copy. ( Randomly ).

    What this will result in....

    * Plat will leave the economy.. People who want the rare item, but don't care about the no drop, will still waste plat to get it
    * People who have the item, feel they still hold a rare item, new items only enter once every 48hr and only 1 in 5 is "Original".
    * You dont set the price, players do. One server might sell a rare item for 10mil another maybe 200k, depending on economy.
    * People with lives, can bid and WIN rare items.

What about some form of non prestige augs that decay after a certain time limit and self destruct or you buy it and after a certain time it becomes prestige unless you renew it for plat as a code hack not sure how/if it could be coded to work and if it could even be done, or someway to remove the prestige flag from an item for a time period or for good might could sell those in MP. The "temp augs" or "temp gear" would be tiered and ramp up the pp cost as level and power increased

So I have been thinking about this "Shadiest Swashbuckler". I hope something else is in the works very soon. In addition to Marcia. Marcia is a cool idea, but with the prices of the items on this vendor it really only has limited audience. Not really a good thing IMO.

Let say Marcia sells 5 items every day for average of 10Mpp that would be only removeing 50Mpp from the game a day. now this is more than likely way more than will actually happen i think. maybe sales of 20-30M a day.

I dont know how much comes into a server everyday my guess <100Mpp. Coin + Vendor trash sales

What you need is smaller transaction items. Lets take that 50Mpp figure and do some math.

    1kpp = 50k sales per day
    10kpp = 5k
    100kpp = 500
    1Mpp = 50

As you can see this is a very wide range of prices and thus involving just about everyone in the game. And to make an effective dent in the games PP you have to have everyone involved.

Now lets review some of my ideas to implement with this.

    10-1000pp
    • Trade-skill stuff
    • buff potions All classes = both takes plat from game and afk junk in lobby. also add some unique buff potions that will benefit while playing. Various DPS, Tankin, Healing buffs. (100-1kpp)
    • Meaningful stat food and drink that gives a buff when consumed rather than simply eating junk and taking advantage of the stat food (100-1kpp) Consume one you get a buff for half hour.
    1-10kpp
    • Gate potions same things in guild hall but more pricey. (1-5kpp)
    • Mounts/illusions (limited charges/casts) (5kpp) These could be illusion that currently drop within game or crafted.
    10-100kpp
    • New gold ticket game. Generic T1 raid items. or something that is a very big carrot but cost a good amount of plat. (50kpp) very small chance to win game. This would probably take massive loads of PP from the game.
    100-1000kpp
    • AA cap increase for FTP -- so do they even sale these anymore? 200kpp per 100AA
    • Merc contracts -- 1Mpp - leave the cooler merc contracts exclusive to MP
    • Generic T1 group gear and other lower level gear. -- 100kpp i dont know going rate on normal servers for T1 group gear and low end gear. 2Mpp+ for full set.
    • Merc Unlocks (J5) for FTP (monthly unlock) -- they dont have this in MP -- 200kpp -- both takes plat from the unlock and the increased upkeep
    • exp potions (100kpp)
    1-10Mpp+
    • Merc Slots -- 5-10Mpp 1 per char only
    • Heroic Chars -- 20Mpp
    • Bags (1-2Mpp) keep best bags exclusive to MP
    • Heroes forge gear and unlocks (10Mpp) not really sure why you have to pay $$$ to unlock a needed graphical feature. but i would pay pp for it.
    • Titles (1Mpp) people dieing for new titles why not sell them. Could be something like "of the Deep Pockets" 10Mpp So "Goth of the Deep Pockets" Then another one for 1Mpp "Millionaire" Buy them both and you have something like this "Millionaire Goth of the Deep Pockets"

Now you say you do not want to take from MP. However, with the need of more PP in game would that not boost Krono sales? So what you could do with krono is to continue to allow them to be sold in the bazaar but also have a vendor that buys them for a fixed price. This will set a minimum price for them if the in game market for them happens to die. Do not have to sell them on a vendor just have a vendor buy them.

Basically if you have items for sell in game this should make buying Krono more desirable and still remove PP from the game. Then as more and more PP is removed from the game the Krono will be one of the only Plat for $$ sources.

I wish these had new item IDs that either had their weight changed by 0.1 or have something in their identify lore that notifies what is an original or from Marcia.
