Do u have to raid for raid gear?

Or are their alternatives to getting raid gear? I have a really busy life currently and don't have the time to consistently commit to a raiding guild. Are there other ways of obtaining raid gear? Such as completing group quests/tasks and spending "points" on gear? Thanks for the info

Unless you're on Firiona Vie, yes, you have to raid to get raid gear.

What about rk3 raid spells? Do you need to raid to get those too? If so, that doesn't seem very fair to soloers and groupers.

Why does it matter if your on Firiona Vie or not?

I actually wish they would do away with ranks and u could only obtain certain spells via grouping or raiding.

Special rules server, very few things are no-trade there. As for the original question: it's called raid gear for a reason...

Raid gear comes from raids. The term 'raid gear' is kind of indicative. With that said, CoTF has a ton of 'chase items' that are raid quality. Lets not forget about the mistmoore rings and ACoF. If you have tens of millions of platinum, I believe you could get nearly a full set and never even have to group with a couple players, let alone do a raid!

You see, instead of keeping the notion that 'raid gear' is from raids alive on regular ruleset servers and only having Firiona Vie have a special ruleset, they've just decided to start handing out the phat lewtz to everyone who wants gear to be fed baby-bird style to them. Good news for your situation.

Good news Pwnz, this gear is only RoF T4 raid quality at best, your elite raider status is safe!

Is Firiona Vie a high pop server? And thanks for all the replies guys.

because almost nothing is no trade on FV. meaning raiding guilds can sell root raid loot in the bazaar. So if you can farm enough pp you can buy just bout anything. the bad thing is you can't transfer off FV. So you can transfer on to it get a full set of raid gear and transfer back to your old server

Taking this from a different tangent. So many guilds have no raid requirements these days, so someone who wants to raid but has limited time just has to find a guild who fits their hours (aka perhaps the player might only be able to make raids on Tuesday or Saturday). There is a fair number of guilds to choose from depending on the need- and since every CoF raid gives currency (as RoF raids did), eventually someone can earn gear that way - just will take longer the fewer raids that are attended.

(Edited to add - this is in general)
Group level gear can be obtained via soloing or grouping (and even raiding aka multi group level named, etc.).
Raid gear is obtained via raiding (old or new content - very old content can be solo'd or grouped these days)
Rank 1 spells are vendor purchased (aka handed to you as long as you have a little plat to buy them).
Rank 2 spells require actual game play (or more plat to buy from someone else who earned them in game)
Rank 3 spells are raid spells and require raids (exception was a few spells in SoF you could complete via group content)

Of course it's fair! Everyone has to do the exact same thing to get them: raid.

I don't know exactly how busy you are (OP) but most raid guilds only go 2 or 3 nights a week now for a few hours. Usually the requirement is =>50% so if you show up two of three nights you're good. A lot has changed compared to 'old school' raiding that was 6 or 7 days a week for countless hours

Aside from that, like others have said, you're limited to the catch items which you can camp yourself or buy. FV you can buy just about any raid item but the economy there is insane... just check out the bazaar. A lot of people do pick up raids as well which may suit a sporadic schedule. I'd check around before just giving up on "raiding".

Edit: And I just saw Crystilla's post which said a lot of that! Sorry for repeating.

I think most servers have at least one sometimes multiple groups that host open raids as well which are great for people who want to check out raiding, win some loot, and not need to commit to a raid guilds schedule. Might be worth seeing what's available on your server.

Before you go running to FV, prepare yourself for severe sticker shock. You're going to be paying 500k minimum for gear that's better than gear you can purchase with Marks of Valor, and most of it will be a LOT more. If you have a reliable means to make money though, you're gold. For example, T1 earrings from Rain of Fear will run you in the 500k to 1 mil+ range depending on the class, Gelid runs 450-900k per slot, and Gelid is pretty much a wash with Manifested functionally.

A lot of the time, even on FV, you're better off getting a full set of group gear for the price that you'd pay for one piece of raid gear if you don't know where the plat to pay for the rest of the raid gear is coming from.

As far as rk3 spells and raid gear is concerned if you are solely a group content player you do not need raid gear to complete 100% of the game. Group content is tuned around people wearing group gear. So unless you need an unfair advantage then group gear is more than fine. You do NOT need to raid to play everquest as suggeted above. It is totally "fair" .

While there are a few notable exceptions of very high stat gear that can be found on groupable mobs, pretty much, if you want (nobody needs) current raid gear or rank 3 spells, you need to raid.

Most (probably all) servers have raid guilds that require very low or no minimum raid attendance nowadays. It should be fairly easy to join a raiding guild, even on a limited time requirement.

Pretty much, if you want to raid, you can, without excuses.

Raid gear is geared for raids. If you are just a casual player soloing or finding groups here and there you don't need raid gear or rank III spells. Sure it makes things easier but that doesn't mean they are required for what it seems you want to do.

There are typically some casual raid guilds that don't have strict requirements that you can join (and sometimes open raids) so you can have the opportunity to raid a little and pick up some raid gear.
